Book News: The Celebrity Mother by Deborah Wright Delayed Until 2010

Posted on Friday, July 24th, 2009 by Leah

debwrightcelebritymotherDeborah Wright’s sixth novel - and first for three years - The Celebrity Mother has had it’s publication date delayed. It was supposed to be released yesterday (23rd July) but won’t be out now until January 21st 2010. Delayed or not, it sounds like a great read:

Ex-girl-band-member-turned-PR-disaster Karina West didn’t see it coming. Her career’s history, her reputation’s in the gutter, and she’s completely on her own.

She needs to get back in the gossip pages, and fast. How better to achieve it than by adopting a child, the sweet, ten-year-old Devika, from a far-off place?

Karina and Devika are soon front-page news, but neither of them realise they are starting a journey that will change their lives – for ever.

Book Cover: Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts by Lucy Dillon

Posted on Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 by Chloe

The cover for Lucy Dillon’s second novel Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts has finally been released, so here it is! I think it’s absolutely gorgeous, and looks like a perfect winter read to snuggle up with under the duvet! It’s not released until 26th November so we’ve got a bit of a wait, but as the old saying goes “Good things come to those who wait”! Here’s the synopsis in case you’ve missed it before:

“When the abandoned strays from a local dogs’ home are matched with brand new owners, it turns out it might not just be the dogs who need rescuing.

Rachel’s aunt has left her a house, a Border Collie and, despite knowing nothing about dogs, a crowded kennels. But since her life has collapsed she’s not sure she can deal with any more lost souls.

Zoe’s ex-husband has given their children a puppy. The kids are in love, but she’s the one stuck training Toffee the impossible Labrador. She’s nearly at the end of her tether – until Toffee leads her to a handsome doctor…

Meanwhile Natalie and Johnny’s marriage hasn’t been easy since they started trying for a baby. But is a fridge-raiding, sofa-stealing Basset hound like Bertie really the child substitute they’re looking for?

As the new owners’ paths cross on the town’s dog-walking circuits, their lives become interwoven. And they – and their dogs – learn some important lessons about loyalty, companionship and unconditional love . . .”

I loved Lucy’s debut The Ballroom Class so hopefully this one will be just as good, or even better! Look out for it from 26th November through Hodder publishers.

Author of the Week: Emily Giffin

Posted on Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 by Leah

This week’s author of the week is Emily Giffin! We’ve reviewed three of her books here on chicklitreviews - Baby Proof, Love The One You’re With and Something Borrowed. Something Borrowed is one of my favourite chick lit books ever. The only book we haven’t reviewed is Something Blue - the sequel to Something Borrowed which is also a great read.

Emily was born in 1972, she wrote her first book aged 6 The Funny Panda’s & The Messy Room. She loved Michael Jackson and even learnt the moonwalk. She had her first kiss in 1984, aged 12! In 1986 she moved to Illinois. In 1997 she moved to New York and passed the bar. Five days after 9/11 she moved to London and started writing Something Borrowed (working title was Rolling The Dice). In 2002 she signed a two-book deal with St Martins Press. Three more novels follow with film rights to Something Borrowed being sold to Hilary Swank’s company. Emily is working on her fifth novel.

As I said, I loved Something Borrowed, Something Blue and Baby Proof. I even liked Love The One You’re With, I just didn’t like Ellen much! I can’t wait for the film version of Something Borrowed especially if Hilary Swank stars, I love her.

Emily’s fifth novel, The Heart of the Matter, is scheduled to be released next year and sounds fab. You can read a sneak-peek of it over at Emily’s website.

Book Cover: Rules by Jane Beaton

Posted on Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 by Leah

Having enjoyed Jane Beaton’s debut novel Class, I was pleased to see Rules, the second in the series, was due for release in August. Unfortunately publication was delayed and Rules will now be released on March 18th. The cover is already up on Amazon and looks great. The synopsis for Rules reads:

For the second year at Downey House, it’s getting harder and harder to stick to the rules.

It’s about making them …Now she’s engaged to sweet and steady Stan, Maggie’s just got to stop thinking about David McDonald, her opposite number at Downey Boys …hasn’t she? Can Maggie take a leaf out of the Well Behaved Teacher’s exercise book - and stick to it?

It’s about breaking them …But headmistress Veronica Deveral has more to lose than anyone. When Daniel Stapleton joins the faculty, she’s forced to confront her scandalous secret. How long will she be able to keep it under wraps?

Author News: TPT To Be A Novelist?!

Posted on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 by Leah

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, a self-confessed IT girl, is the latest celebrity to write a novel. Inheritance is due out in the Autumn of 2010 and will be inspired by Tara’s life. The book will look into a world of “private jets, parties and international intrigue”.

It will be published by Pan Macmillan and Inheritance will be the first of 2 books with them.

What I’m wondering is if she’ll do a Katie Price and get it ghost-written…
