Book Review: The Life You Want by Emily Barr

Posted on Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 by Leah

emilybarrthelifeyouwantTansy Harris is a terrible mother. The kind who forgets to pick her children up from school, the kind who drinks half a bottle of wine at lunch-time, the kind who comtemplates an affair with her son’s teacher. The very worst kind.

But then, Tansy’s life is not one she ever wanted. When she married Max, and agreed to have his children, it was on the proviso that it wouldn’t change them: they’d still do whatever they want, see the world, be free. But they have changed, and Tansy can’t cope. With a full-scale meltdown looming, something must be done, and Tansy decides the answer is India. It’s somewhere she and Max always planned to visit together, but this is a trip Tansy will take alone: to take stock, sort her head out, come back a better person.

India turns out to be nothing like Tansy imagined, and yet everything she hoped for. But when she visits an old backpacker friend who’s joined a cult in the south, Tansy lifts the lid on something terrifying and much, much bigger that her. And the moment she realises she’s in the wrong place at the wrong time…. is the moment it’s too late.

Book News: Living La Vida Loca by Belinda Jones

Posted on Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 by Chloe

We posted a while ago about the news of Belinda Jones’ new book (and first with publishers Hodder) Living La Vida Loca. Well, it’s now up for pre-order on Amazon with a release date of 15th April 2010! There is also a full synopsis up as well so here it is:

“Carmen’s been trapped in an oppressive relationship for Too Darn Long. So when her equally rock-bottom friend Beth suggests the ultimate escape – dancing their way through a series of scorchingly-hot countries – she can’t resist!

There’s just one catch… they can only go on this adventure if they participate in a reality TV show, one intent on teaching them the mournful tango in Argentina, the feisty, foot-stomping flamenco in Spain and the sassy, celebratory salsa in Cuba!

As they travel from Buenos Aires to Seville and ultimately steamy Havana, each dance has a profound affect on the girls – and indeed the sexy gauchos, matadors and dirty dancers who partner them…

But, when the sun goes down, do they have what it takes to go beyond the uno-dos-tres of the steps and to free their hearts for love?”

I’ve read a few of Belinda’s books, my favourite being her last book Out of the Blue so I can’t wait for this! We’ll post the cover as and when it’s out there.

Book News: I Heart Hollywood by Lindsey Kelk

Posted on Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 by Chloe

One of this summer’s “must-reads” is Lindsey Kelk’s debut novel I Heart New York which I absolutely loved. Luckily for those of us who loved that book, Lindsey has already written its sequel called I Heart Hollywood! It’s not due out until 7th January 2010, but here’s the synopsis:

“Angela Clark fell head over heels for New York, but will the sun-drenched glamour of Hollywood win her heart? Angela Clark can’t believe her luck! She’s an English girl living in New York with a dream job at hip magazine The Look and a sexy boyfriend. Her latest assignment takes her to Hollywood to interview hot actor and fellow Brit James Jacobs.Thrown in at the deep end she heads west with best friend Jenny dreaming of Rodeo Drive and Malibu beach. Soon Angela discovers that celebrity life in Hollywood is not all glamour, gloss and sunshine. Despite his lady-killer reputation, the only person who seems genuine is James. Then a paparazzi snaps them in an uncompromising position and suddenly Angela is thrust into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons! Can she convince all those close to her — especially her boss and her boyfriend — not to believe everything they read? And will Hollywood ever win Angela’s heart?”

You can read the first chapter now on Lindsey’s website here: First chapter of I Heart Hollywood

Posted on Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 by Leah

anne marie forrest win some love someAnne Marie Forrest’s third novel in the Rosie Kiely series is released tomorrow (July 30th) and is called Win Some, Love Some. It sounds like a really great read:

It’s dream-come-true time for Rosie, Caroline and Dana when they win 11 million Euros in the lotto. Determined that neither they, nor their families and friends should lose their heads, and keen to avoid unwanted attention from the public, they decide to keep their win a secret.

Of course, they don’t intend to spend all the money on themselves. Caroline plans to use the bulk of their fortune to make an even bigger fortune. Rosie wants to help Seán, a homeless teenage friend and, also, her boyfriend Finn whose band badly needs funding. And Dana wants to help her boyfriend Doug further his education and find a direction in life.

But all this will have to be done in secret, without those they help knowing where the money has come from, and that’s where the trouble begins …
