Book Review: Half Seven on a Thursday by Roisin Meaney

When Edward Bull says yes to directing an amateur play Death By Dying, he has no idea just how much his life and the lives of the actors involved will change over the course of the 6 weeks it takes to get the play up to scratch. First there’s sisters Ellen and Marie, one still stung with grief over the death of her boyfriend while the other stays in her loveless marriage because she doesn’t know how to leave. Then there’s Judith, whose all alone since her son headed to Greece months earlier.

Robert thinks he has the life he always wanted, until something come along to threaten everything he’s made. Harry is lonely, with only his ailing ma with him, and is shy to boot. And finally there’s Theo, happy in her relationship but struggling to come to terms with being a step-mother. As the curtain call draws closer, can these 7 people sort out their real life difficulties and manage to put on the performance of their lives in Death By Dying?

Book Review: The Good Luck Girl by Kerry Reichs

Maeve Connolly is very flighty. She seems to find it very difficult to stay in any place for too long a time. Maeve is also impulsive and seemingly has a lot of bad luck, and on an impulse she decides to drive across America from North Carolina to LA to see her friend Laura. Maeve sets off on her journey along with her bird Oliver and soon finds herself visiting some relatively obscure (and fantastically named) towns across America.

However, Maeve’s bad luck doesn’t seem to have left her and she ends up stranded in Unknown, Arizona when her car Elsie breaks down. As the townsfolk of Unknown rush to help Maeve on her quest to get her car fixed, Maeve finds herself becoming part of the community. However Maeve begins to fall for her boss Noah and her only option appears to be to run again…

Book Review: Pack up the Moon by Anna McPartlin

When a night that was supposed to be filled with laughter and celebration ends in the tragic death of her boyfriend John, Emma wonders how she will get her life back on track. Emma has friends and family to rally round to help her with her grief though. Trouble is, they all have problems too and the tragic death of John hurts each and every one of them in different ways.

There’s Sean, John’s best friend who’s struggling big time with his guilt/grief and ends up hitting the bottle; Clodagh, Emma’s best friend can’t help feeling angry about what happens; Anne and Richard struggle to understand their loss but have each other to help them through their grief and Emma’s brother Noel questions his faith after the death of his friend. As the friends come to terms with their grief, Emma realises that the only way she’ll truly be able to love again is to lay John’s ghost to rest, but is that easier said than done?

Book Review: The Other Half Lives by Sophie Hannah

When Ruth Bussey’s boyfriend Aidan confesses to murdering someone, Ruth is understandably shocked. Her shock deepens when her boyfriend tells her the name of the woman he murdered: Mary Trelease. The thing is Ruth knows a woman called Mary Trelease and she’s very much alive.

Ruth and Aidan separately visit the police to tell them of Aidan’s shocking confession - Ruth is adamant that Aidan hasn’t killed this woman whereas Aidan is even more adamant he did kill her. As Charlie Zailer and Simon Waterhouse begin to investigate, they unravel a series of coincidences in their bid to find out just why a man would confess to the murder of someone who’s seemingly still alive.

Book Review: Letters To A Love Rat by Niamh Greene

Molly, Eve and Julie all have one thing in common: a man named Charlie. Molly has just married Charlie and is shocked and stunned when, after just coming back from their honeymoon, Charlie ups and leaves by leaving a note saying that she needs to put the recycling out, but also, that he’s leaving her.

Eve has never gotten over Charlie and believed he was the love of her life until the day she caught him in bed with someone else. Her therapist now has her writing letters to Charlie. Letters she won’t send but will hopefully help her to get over Charlie. Julie has been having an affair with Charlie and even blogs about it to the entire internet. She knows she should stop since he’s just gotten married but she just can’t resist - can she? Just what is it that makes all of these women go gaga for Charlie?
