    November Releases

Posted on Saturday, October 31st, 2009 by Leah

I can’t believe we’re almost at the end of another year. October has flown by and here are the releases for November; there are some cracking sounding reads and there’s a few I’d love to read.lisaheidkelucyspringergetseven

Lisa Heidke - Lucy Springer Gets Even - 5th November

Lucy Springer thinks she’s got it tough. She’s living through renovation hell, her two kids seem more challenging than ever, and her once successful acting career has been reduced to the odd commercial. Then Max, her husband, absconds to Bali with an unknown companion and things go from bad to disastrous.

But Lucy doesn’t give up easily. Juggling increasingly chaotic building dramas, bewildered children, her crazy best friend-slash-agent Gloria, her ever ‘helpful’ mother and chasing after Max, Lucy Springer is determined to get her life onto an even keel-and more.

This delightful new novel is an often hilarious account of triumphing over adversity, following your dreams and listening to your heart.jemma forte me and miss m

    Jemma Forte - Me & Miss M - 5th November

Struggling actress Fran has always had stars in her eyes but with a part in a car insurance ad as her only claim to fame, making it big is starting to look unlikely. So taking a job as a PA to Caroline Mason – one half of Hollywood’s most famous couple – seems like a fantastic opportunity.

Especially when Fran’s first encounter with Caroline’s sexy, Oscar-winning boyfriend involves him wearing nothing but a tiny towel . . . But Fran’s new job is far from glamorous as her days are spent fetching never-ending, venti, quatro, decaf, skinny lattes and being an all-round slave to a demanding, botoxed diva. And when the job starts to cost Fran her friends and the man of her dreams she has to ask herself whether it’s really worth it.

The time has come for Miss M to find out a few home truths, for Fran to get her life on track and to win back her Mr Right…martine mccutcheon the mistress

Martine McCutcheon - The Mistress - 6th November

Mandy Sanderson is turning thirty and has everything going for her – dark ebony hair, flashing black eyes, flawless skin and a job she loves – yet, so far, true love has eluded her. Then, on the night of her birthday party, surrounded by friends she adores, Cupid strikes as Mandy and the gorgeous Jake Chaplin lock eyes across the restaurant and fall for one another in an instant.

Jake is confident, successful, oozing with sex appeal and utterly irresistible. He is also married, with two children, and Mandy has always sworn not to break her own golden rule: never encourage a man to play away. Jake is used to getting what he wants, and this time it is Mandy he’s determined to win, and with Jake, seduction comes in more ways than one . . FairytaleOfNewYorkCover

The Bachelor and Spinster Ball by Janet Gover - 12th November 2009

“Sexy Nick, feisty Bec and dreamy Hailey all grew up together in the tiny, one-horse town of Farwell Creek. Now she’s back – but Nick doesn’t have romantic feelings for her any more … does he?

Sweet, idealistic Hailey is caught between her old friends, but has too many problems of her own to be able to worry about theirs. Devastated at the loss of her parents, who died in a crash a year earlier, she’s too wrapped up in her own thoughts to even think about leaving town or finding love.

It will take a devastating bush-fire, a black-tie ball under the stars, and a road-trip to help all three friends work out who and what they want – and what they need.”

When her new assignment leads her to India to document an ashram high in the hills, Priya hopes to find some much-needed serenity. But with mystery and secrets at its heart, she’s soon convinced something sinister is afoot. And with her feelings for attractive tour guide Noah complicating things further, Priya can’t help but wonder: is Noah really interested in her, or is he trying to distract her from finding out the truth?”

Book News: Revenge of the Spellmans by Lisa Lutz

Posted on Friday, October 30th, 2009 by Chloe

Revenge of the Spellmans by Lisa LutzLisa Lutz continues her successful ‘Spellman Files’ series with the third book next year. Revenge of the Spellmans is due out on 4th February 2010, and sounds very funny. The previous two in the series are The Spellman Files and The Curse of the Spellmans. I like the cover, and this is one series of books I must get around to reading! Here’s the synopsis:

“Having been ordered into therapy after getting a little too close to her previous subject, former private investigator Izzy Spellman is wisely taking a break from Spellman Inc, having embarked on a less controversial career as a barmaid. But when her boss, Milo, simultaneously cuts her bartending hours and introduces her to a ‘friend’ looking for a private eye, Izzy reluctantly finds herself with a new client. A suspicious husband who wants his wife tailed, it would appear to be a routine case involving nothing more than that most boring of PI rituals: surveillance. But Izzy soon discovers that she’s not the only person keeping a close eye on Mrs Ernie Black and with each passing hour the Case of the Wayward Wife throws up more questions than answers.”

Author of the Week: Sophie King

Posted on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 by Chloe

sophie_kingSophie King is one of those authors that doesn’t seem to get all that much publicity in the “chick lit” world which is a shame because she’s a fab writer! Her real name is Jane Bidder and she’s a journalist, but under the name of Sophie King, she’s written 5 fabulous novels of which I’ve read them all and loved each. Here’s a bit about Sophie from her website:

“Sophie King’s books are aimed at teenagers, mums and grans or anyone else who can identify with a chaotic family life. Sophie has three children, a dog, a cat and a sleepy terrapin – all of whom make her laugh or cry, depending on how she feels

Sophie has a pen name to distinguish her novels from her journalism. As Jane Bidder, she has written for The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Express, The Daily Mail, Woman, Woman’s Weekly, My Weekly, Good Housekeeping and many other national publications.”

Sophie King’s books first came to my attention when I read Mums @ Home many years ago, before I started reviewing and I loved it. I then read Second Time Lucky and was hooked on her books. My favourite of Sophie’s books has to be The Supper Club, a fabulous read about a group of friends and their woes. Her latest book is The Wedding Party and is also a good read. There’s no news of a 6th book yet but I’m hopeful there will be! If you haven’t yet discovered Sophie’s books, please try them - they’re fab!

    Author Interview: Julia Williams

Posted on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 by Leah

julia williamsTo coincide with the release of her latest book Last Christmas, which is out tomorrow, Julia Williams agreed to do an author interview with us. It makes for fantastic reading, truly one of the best I’ve conducted this year, and you can also read what her fourth novel The Bridesmaids Pact will be about.

    1. Tell us about your latest book, Last Christmas?

Last Christmas is probably my most ambitious book to date, as I follow the stories of four characters in two different locations, and flashback to what happened to them all last Christmas.

For this story I created the fictional village of Hope Christmas, but it’s very much based on the town my mother lives in in Shropshire. Some of the action involving Gabriel, a local farmer, and Marianne the new primary school teacher is set here, and some is set in London following the travails of Catherine and Noel, married with four children and a host of problems. I have four children and I thought giving my heroine four too would ensure maximum disruption to her life!

Book Cover: Becoming Scarlett by Ciara Geraghty

Posted on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 by Chloe

Becoming Scarlett by Ciara GeraghtyHere is the gorgeous book cover of Ciara Geraghty’s second book Becoming Scarlett. It’s due out on 21st January 2010, and if it’s anywhere near as good as her debut novel Saving Grace which I loved, it’ll be a brilliant read! Here’s the synopsis again:

    “Meet Scarlett O’Hara. She’s a woman with a plan. Until now…

Because Scarlett has moved back to her childhood home with her plan in tatters. And a baby on the way.

John Smith, actuary, proper grown-up and Scarlett’s boyfriend, has left her to join an archaeological dig in a tiny village somewhere in Brazil.

But that’s not the worst bit.

The worst bit is she can’t be sure who the father of the baby is . . . even though she’s slept with exactly four-and-a-half men in her entire 35 years.

As a distraction, Scarlett throws herself into her job as a wedding planner, but even that’s not going smoothly. Because of her growing feelings for her most important client’s husband-to-be . . .

In the end it’s the person she thought she knew best – herself – who surprises her the most. Join Scarlett as she tries, for the first time ever, to navigate life without a plan.”

Book Review: Last Christmas by Julia Williams

Posted on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 by Leah

juliawilliamslastchristmasCat Tinsall is worried her marriage is in tatters. Not only that but her alter-ego “Happy Homemaker” is driving her insane, her children are a bit wild and her mother is becoming forgetful. Noel Tinsall, Cat’s husband, is also concerned about the state of his marriage and is also incredibly worried that he’s going to lose his job.

Over in Hope Christmas, Marianne Moore is reeling from being dumped and is trying to overcome her broken heart. Gabriel North is also harbouring a broken heart after his wife upped and left. Can he and his son Stephen pull through?

Can all four come through the year unscathed? And just who is Ralph Nicholas and what binds him to our four main characters?
