    Transworld Signs more Carmen Reid

Posted on Saturday, January 30th, 2010 by Leah

Transworld has signed up three new novels by Carmen Reid, author of the Personal Shopper series, in a good six-figure deal.

Sarah Turner, editorial director at Transworld, acquired UK & Commonwealth rights from Reid’s long-term agent Darley Anderson. The first novel in the new contract will be out in 2011 and will take Annie Valentine to New York.

Meanwhile, Celebrity Shopper will be published in Bantam Press hardback on 4th March. Turner said: “We’re thrilled to secure this long-term commitment with Carmen. She’s a dream to work with and knows exactly what her readers want. Fans and fashionistas can look forward to more Annie Valentine make-overs, and an exciting new project too!”

This is fab news for Carmen fans - and in particular Annie Valentine fans! I look forward to learning what the new project is!

Book Cover: You're The One That I Don't Want by Alexandra Potter

Posted on Saturday, January 30th, 2010 by Chloe

Thanks to the lovely Suzana at Bookalicious Ramblings, we now have the cover for Alexandra Potter’s new novel You’re The One That I Don’t Want, which is due out on 5th August. Alexandra posted it on her website, and I think it’s lovely, and it ties in with her older covers too. Here’s the synopsis again:

“What if you found your soulmate…
and then discovered you couldn’t lose him?

When Lucy meets Nate aged 18, it is love at first sight. As far as she’s concerned, he’s The One. Caught up in the whirlwind of first love, they kiss under the Bridge of Sighs in Venice at sunset and – according to the legend – are tied together indefinitely.

But ten years later, they’ve almost forgotten about each other. That is, until fate starts to bring them together. Again. And again. And again. It doesn’t seem as wonderful as it had before, but if Nate’s not The One – then why on earth is it proving so hard to break up with him?

A funny and magical romantic comedy about what happens when every girl’s dream of finding her dream man comes very true indeed…”

Book Review: In The Wee Small Hours by Gil McNeil

Posted on Friday, January 29th, 2010 by Leah

Annie Baker’s life could not be more complicated: her sister Lizzie wants her to be her birthing partner once she goes into labour, her boss Barney has her working like a demon as he tries to make even more outrageous commercials and her friends Kate and Laila are either wrapped up in new men or having an affair with their ex-husband.

Her son Charlie has now decided he wants to be a Pagan and wants a pet pheasant, dog and ferret and she also has to look after her old, and slightly mad, Uncle Monty. To top it all off, just when she thinks she’s getting over Mack, he comes waltzing back into her life. What’s a girl to do?

Posted on Friday, January 29th, 2010 by Chloe

Her first novel Luxury only came out at the latter half of 2009, but Jessica Ruston already has her second book lined up! It’s untitled as of yet but it’s due out 30th September 2010, and here’s the synopsis:

“Glamour, tragedy and a family curse feature in this gripping epic blockbuster. Hard-working, talented and beautiful, sixteen-year-old Violet Genockey dreams of making a life for herself away from her parents in Dorset - her father, a gypsy turned violent drunk; her mother, a seamstress, bitter with resentment at her lot in life. So when American student Bryce Cavalley enters her life and offers a world of promise she goes willingly with him to London. With a baby on the way and a job at a miliner’s, life is busy but rewarding. But just a year later, Bryce is murdered, and her own father has blood on his hands. When Violet testifies in court, her father calls down a gypsy curse that chills her to the bone. But she has to start again. With a small trust fund from Bryce eighteen-year-old Violet decides to set up her own shop. Cavalley’s is open for business…As the years pass, the name Violet Cavalley becomes synonymous with the finest milinery in the world. Yet with every triumph, Violet suffers a new tragedy. Book Cover: No Ordinary Love by Anita Notaro

Posted on Friday, January 29th, 2010 by Leah

Anita Notaro’s last book was released in 2008 so there’s been quite a wait between books but she’s finally back on 1st April 2010 with her next release No Ordinary Love. I loved her first two books Behind The Scenes and Back After The Break so I’m absolutely looking forward to this book! I quite like the simple cover, too. Here’s the synopsis:

Louisa is fed up with every aspect of her life. Boyfriend, job, flat - all these need an instant and radical makeover. And so she decides to change it all in favour of a carefree existence, exchanging her house for a trailer, her car for a motorbike, and her smart clothes for leisure wear. And, most of all, she starts a new business, as a dog counsellor.

With her best friends Maddy and Clodagh she embarks on a new regime - to meet different people, discover new places and find a fabulous new man. Her business brings her immediate and extraordinary rewards, as she meets the owners of dogs whose problems often seem to echo those of their owners. But whatever the stresses of her new life, Louisa has the support of her two friends. If only that could last forever…

Book News: Single in the City by Michele Gorman

Posted on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 by Chloe

Michele Gorman’s debut novel is due out on 25th June 2010, and sounds like a fantastic read! The book is called Single in the City, and definitely sounds like one I am looking forward to reading. It was originally going to be called The Expat Diaries but it’s had a new name, and I think it’s much better! If you like the sound of it, there’s even a Facebook group to join where you can chat to the author about her book! Here’s the synopsis:

“What happens when you take one 26 year old American, add to one 2,000 year old city, add a big dose of culture clash and stir?

Hannah Cumming and the population of London are about to find out.

How is Hannah to know that there’s a special technique to crossing the street or riding a bus, or that words like tomato will elicit snide elocution lessions from the locals? Hannah lands alone in London only to find that she is totally ill-equipped to live there. Not that a complete lack of forethought has ever stopped her before. She charges headlong into London life, perplexing its residents with continual faux pas and cultural misunderstandings in her pursuit of a new life, new love and sense of herself. “

Book Cover: The Perfect Lie by Emily Barr

Posted on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 by Leah

Since reading The Sisterhood by Emily Barr, I’ve become a huge fan of her books. Her next book The Perfect Lie is due out on 13th May 2010 and I absolutely cannot wait. The cover has finally been released and I adore it. The pink and the blue works perfectly and it’s such a fab cover. Here’s the synopsis:

For Lucy Riddick, Venice has always been the dream destination. A dream inspired by the pretty picture pinned to her mother’s kitchen wall. To Lucy, Venice seems the ideal place to lose herself. And now she needs to do just that. The secret she’s been keeping from her boyfriend and her friends has finally caught up with her and Lucy needs to disappear – and fast.

There’s no better time to pack her bags and head for Italy. But what if, when she sets foot in Venice, Lucy finds that the one thing she has been running from, the one thing she has been trying to escape, is already there, lying in wait for her? Time to run away again? Or time to end the chase, once and for all?
