Book News: Anyone For Me? by Fiona Cassidy

Posted on Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 by Chloe

The lovely Fiona Cassidy, who writes a series of blog posts for us here at Chicklitreviews.com, has her second novel due out this August. Anyone For Me? sounds like a superb read, and I love the simplistic cover too. Both Leah and I loved her debut book Anyone For Seconds so hopefully this will be just as good! Here’s the synopsis:

“Meet feisty fun-loving Ruby Ross – thirty four, mad red hair, mad (in general) adopted and searching for answers (most pressingly being precisely whose genes are responsible for the most unmanageable bonce in the country?). She’s impulsive, compulsive and unaware of what she’s about to unleash in her quest for the truth. Her journey will take her from the Tyrone village of Swiftstown to Belfast to the rolling hills of Donegal (where the scenery is lovely but the roads are bad and burst tyres are plenty.)

Isobel Ross is larger than life, living in a picturesque cottage in Donegal in the grounds of an old manor house which has been turned into a hotel – but why are the new owners so keen to get rid of her? She’s harbouring secrets from the past and fiercely protective of her adopted daughter. Can she stop the wilful Ruby from opening a nasty can of worms or will the hand of fate intervene and give Ruby the answers she doesn’t expect or might not want.

Throw in Ruby’s forthcoming nuptials to the lovely Luke, Frankie, her best friend and bling loving bridesmaid, a wedding planner called Gabriel who wears more make-up than the bride-to-be and a dusty box found in an attic which leaves many questions unanswered and you have a bewildered and rather ferocious Ruby asking is there….Anyone For Me?”

    Author Interview: Ruth Saberton

Posted on Tuesday, March 30th, 2010 by Leah

When Ruth Saberton emailed Chloe and I a few months ago and offered us a copy of her debut novel Katy Carter Wants A Hero I was thrilled as I read the blurb on Amazon a while back and loved the sound of it. I read it in early February and I then asked Ruth if she was interested in doing an interview with us and she agreed. Here are Ruth’s answers and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

    1. Tell us about Katy Carter Wants A Hero?

“Katy Carter Wants a Hero” is about an aspiring romantic novelist who’s trying to juggle teaching, writing a novel and being the perfect partner for her fiancé, James. Katy’s a hopeless romantic (emphasis definitely on the hopeless part there!) and she’s sure that she’s found her perfect romantic hero in James – if only it wasn’t so hard to be the model girlfriend he expects! When her life takes an unexpected turn Katy finds herself out on her ear so decides to change her life. She runs away to Cornwall in search of a real romantic hero. Does she find him? Now, that would be telling!

    2. What are you currently working on?

At the moment I am frantically working on “Unlucky in Love” which is the fourth book in the Hen Night Prophecy Series that I’ve been writing for Little Black Dress, under the pen name of Jessica Fox. Hopefully by the time you read this I will have finished it. I’ve also been finishing my next book for Orion. It’s called “Second Thoughts” and is all about a girl who gets cold feet on the eve of her wedding. In between all this I’m teaching Media Studies and promoting “Katy Carter Wants a Hero”. Phew!

Book News: It’s Got To Be Perfect by Claire Allan

Posted on Tuesday, March 30th, 2010 by Chloe

In a fantastic exclusive courtesy of the lovely Claire Allan, Chicklitreviews.com brings you the first look at Claire Allan’s new novel It’s Got To Be Perfect which is due out in September 2010! This is Claire’s fourth book, and if it’s as good as her previous ones, then we’re in for a treat! Here is the great sounding synopsis:

“All Annie Delaney really wants is her happy ever after. A big dress. A big day. A big commitment. She even has a scrap book filled to bursting with ideas for her dream day, her dream home and – of course – her dream man.Only problem is, the current man on her arm isn’t so much of a dream as a nightmare and as for the man currently in her bed… that’s a whole other disaster in the making. With her relationship, and her life, heading into a tailspin Annie realises she has to re-examine just what can make her happy, while trying (and failing) not to make things worse.

But it’s never going to be easy – especially when she sees her friend Fionn heading straight towards her own big day with her Mr Right. But then Annie misjudges the difficulties Fionn faces with Mr Right’s very own Little Miss, not to mention the ex waiting in the wings.Turning to her sister, Darcy, for support Annie has her eyes opened to just what can make you happy – or indeed make you sad. And she ponders that age old question – is there such a thing as the perfect relationship?”

Book Review: Katy Carter Wants A Hero by Ruth Saberton

Posted on Monday, March 29th, 2010 by Leah

Katy Carter is a secondary school teacher who dreams of being a bestselling author and secretly scribbles down her novel (a historic blockbuster) whilst in school meetings. Katy is also a huge fan of grabbing herself her own romantic hero and thinks she’s found him in James, her fiance.

However when a dinner party for James’s work colleagues goes disastrously wrong – with help from a lobster named Pinchy, a red-setter named Sasha and a cactus – Katy finds herself unceremoniously dumped by James. After a health scare Katy is determined to get her life back on track and heads down to Cornwall to stay with best friend Maddy with the hopes of finding herself her new romantic hero, but could her romantic hero be closer to home than she thinks?

Cover Wars: The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern

Posted on Monday, March 29th, 2010 by Chloe

In a bit of a change, the publishers of Cecelia Ahern’s novels have decided to bring out the paperback version of her latest novel The Book of Tomorrow with a brand new cover. While I did like the hardback cover (left), I adore anything purple so I really do love the paperback version of the book (right) and think it brings a new look to a great story! Which do you prefer?

Book Cover: Last Night at Chateau Marmont by Lauren Weisberger

Posted on Monday, March 29th, 2010 by Leah

I have to be honest and say that I’ve only read one of Lauren Weisberger’s novels but Lauren seems to get huge hype whenever she publishes a book so I get a bit excited when I see a new one from her! Her fourth book is due out on August 5th 2010 and will be called Last Night at Chateau Marmont. I love the fact that the cover will match the other books she’s had published (I’m big on matching covers). Here’s the synopsis:

Two college sweethearts are living a happy, rather ordinary life in New York but there’s a slight twist — she’s the breadwinner, supporting her musician boyfriend. Until the tables are turned when he’s discovered by a Sony exec and their worlds are turned upside down. Soon they are holidaying in the Hamptons, adorning the cover of Vanity Fair and attending every glitzy party in town — all the while his career is reaching new, dizzying heights. But the trappings of this elite lifestyle mean our heroine must face the wrath of the US press.

Scorned for having a less-than-perfectly-honed LA body and brutalised for being ‘ordinary’ things couldn’t get any worse! Then news erupts that her best friend, who’s been her confidante through these months of misery, has sold her innermost secrets to the press and her life spirals out of control. She finds solace in a secret support group: The Civilian Ex-Wives and Girlfriends of Celebrities Group — a place to gossip, lubricated with lashings of shared experiences and strong cocktails. As this sassy group right the wrongs of their past relationships, our heroine must decide if she’s going to sink or swim.
