Author of the Week: Kate Harrison

Posted on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 by Leah

Kate Harrison, this week’s Author of the Week, is the author of 6 novels with the 6th, the sequel to The Secrets Shoppers Revenge, The Secret Shopper Unwrapped out in October. Her 7th novel, currently untitled, is due out in 2011.

Kate was born in Wigan but moved around a lot as a child. After working for a news agency in Reading she joined the BBC as a researcher. She then became Education Correspondent until she decided she preferred the producer/director role and moved to London to work at Newsround. She also worked for Panorama before leaving the BBC in 2006 so she could concetrate on writing full time. Read more about Kate here.

Her novels are Old School Ties, The Starter Marriage, The Brown Owls Guide To Life, The Self Preservation Society, The Secret Shoppers’ Revenge & The Secret Shopper Unwrapped. I haven’t read any of Kate’s novels but, like a lot of books, have The Secret Shoppers’ Revenge on my to-be-read pile.

As well as being Author of the Week we have an exclusive interview with Kate which will be posted tomorrow so look out for that!

Book News: The Ice Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson

Posted on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 by Chloe

Dorothy Koomson’s next novel The Ice Cream Girls isn’t due out until February 2010, but Amazon already have the synopsis up. It sounds like a brilliant read, just like her other books and this is one that I personally am really looking forward to. Here’s the synopsis!

“At only eighteen years of age, Poppy and Serena were the only witnesses to a tragic event. Amid heated public debate and scrutiny, the two glamorous teens were dubbed ‘The Ice Cream Girls’ by the press and forced to go their separate ways and to lead very different lives. Twenty years later, Poppy is keen to set the record straight about what really happened, while married mother-of-two Serena wants no one in her present to find out about her past. But some secrets will not stay buried - and if theirs is revealed, their lives will start to unravel all over again …Gripping, thought-provoking and heart-warming, The Ice Cream Girls will make you wonder if you can ever truly know the people you love.”

It sounds great, and it’s a shame I have to wait so long for this book! Why don’t you check our review of Dorothy’s last book Goodnight, Beautiful … a perfect read for this hot weather!

Book News: Me and Miss M by Jemma Forte

Posted on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 by Chloe

Jemma Forte is a new author signed up to Penguin, and her debut novel looks great. Billed as a British version of the hit book and film The Devil Wears Prada, her first novel Me and Miss M isn’t due out until November but it sounds like a great read! Here’s the synopsis:

“Ever wondered what a celebrity’s life is really like?

Struggling actress Fran has always had stars in her eyes but with a part in a car insurance ad as her only claim to fame, making it big is starting to look unlikely. So taking a job as a PA to Caroline Mason - one half of Hollywood’s most famous couple - seems like a fantastic opportunity. Especially when Fran’s first encounter with Caroline’s sexy, Oscar-winning boyfriend involves him wearing nothing but a tiny towel . . .

But Fran’s new job is far from glamorous as her days are spent fetching never-ending, venti, quatro, decaf, skinny lattes and being an all-round slave to a demanding, botoxed diva. And when the job starts to cost Fran her friends and the man of her dreams she has to ask herself whether it’s really worth it.

The time has come for Miss M to find out a few home truths, for Fran to get her life on track and to win back her Mr Right…”

Look out for it in the shops from November 5th.
