Book Cover and News: The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

Posted on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 by Chloe

It may not be chick-lit but I do love Dan Brown’s novels! His latest book, The Lost Symbol, is due out on 15th September and brings back the brilliant Robert Langdon from his other novels. The cover has been released by the publishers, Transworld, today and for the first time gives us a clue about the location of this book. The picture shows us the famous US Capitol building so this looks like it’s going to be set in the US. There’s no synopsis yet but here’s what I’ve been able to find out.

“Six years in the writing, The Lost Symbol is Dan Brown’s extraordinary sequel to his internationally bestselling Robert Langdon thrillers, Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code.

Nothing is ever what it first appears in a Dan Brown novel. Set over a breathtaking 12 hour time span, the book’s narrative takes the reader on an exhilarating journey through a masterful and unexpected landscape as Professor of Symbology, Robert Langdon, is once again called into action.

Expertly researched and written with breakneck pace, The Lost Symbol once again demonstrates why Dan Brown is the world’s bestselling thriller writer.”

I for one can’t wait for this book, not long to go! Look out for it from 15th September.

Book Review: The Secret Life of a Slummy Mummy by Fiona Neill

Posted on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 by Leah

    secretlifeofaslummymummyBook review by Ainsley!

Fiona Neill’s Secret Life of a Slummy Mummy was my first prize read on my recent holiday! Based on a newspaper column of the same name, this book had me in stitches on my sun lounger. It’s a sweet tale of Lucy Sweeny (our slummy mummy) and her allies (Yummy Mummy, Sexy Domesticated Dad) as she struggles to gain domestic order as a stay-at-home-mum, something she’s found far more challenging than her previous career as Newsnight producer. Lucy and her three little boys dodge one entertainingly funny disaster after the next.

Lucy’s arch nemesis, Alpha mum, wastes no opportunity to ridicule her (lack of) parenting skills and general slumminess, which include turning up at the gates in pyjamas. With her three boys running rampage around their North London home, it’s not long before she starts lusting after Sexy Domesticated Dad – spelling only one thing, and that’s trouble.

Read this book for the comedy – switch your brain into neutral and enjoy Fiona Neill’s easy way of raising a giggle or three. The finale is dramatic; fast paced and will have you rooting for Lucy until the end. It’s perfect laughter therapy for after a hard day.

Leonie was happily in love and engaged to fiancé Adam, but now she’s living halfway across the world from him in San Franscisco. She doesn’t want to be found, and she doesn’t want people to know the secret she ran away from either.

She enlists the help of her neighbour Alex who has a fair few secrets herself - but is Leonie doing it for Nathan and his love, or to exorcise her own demons once and for all?

Book News: Kissing Mr. Wrong by Sarah Duncan

Posted on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 by Leah

Sarah Duncan’s second novel of 2009 (after A Single To Rome), Kissing Mr. Wrong, is released on the 22nd December. It will be her fifth novel! Here’s a useless piece of trivia: before turning to writing Sarah was Rodney’s girlfriend - before Cassandra - on Only Fools and Horses! The synopsis for Kissing Mr. Wrong reads:

Alex may write and illustrate books for children, but she’s certain she doesn’t want children of her own, and she definitely isn’t interested in men with baggage – until Gus blows into her life. Gus has more baggage than Terminal 5 – ex-wife, kids and a large dog that leaves hairs over Alex’s favourite trousers.

He’s absolutely not Mr Right, but as he helps Alex trace a strand of her family history, she finds herself being drawn into his chaotic but warm world. But being the wicked step-mother was never a role Alex fancied playing, and she’s not sure that loving Gus will be enough for a happy ever after together…
