Book News: Spotlight by Ilana Fox

Posted on Monday, July 20th, 2009 by Chloe

Ilana Fox, author of The Making of Mia, a book I thoroughly enjoyed, has a new book coming out on 17th March 2011. The title listed on Amazon is Spotlight although this is not confirmed as it isn’t yet titled on Ilana’s website. Here’s a synopsis:

“Madison wants to live the American dream of winning a TV singing talent competition, and Jess works for a national newspaper although she wants to be a fashion designer. When things go wrong for Madison, Jess happens to be waiting in the wings. But how far can one girl go in pretending she’s something she’s not?”

Look out for a review of Ilana’s debut novel coming soon.

Thanks to Bookalicious for the heads up.

Book Review: Artistic Licence by Katie Fforde

Posted on Friday, July 17th, 2009 by Leah

katieartisticlicenceThere’s an art to choosing men …but Thea’s just discovering it.

Fed up with looking after a houseful of students, Thea Orville throws caution to the winds and takes off to Ireland with Rory, a charming but feckless artist. But Thea’s old life isn’t so easily cut off. The arrival of Molly, her bossy friend, demanding to see Rory’s stunning paintings (and to find out what Thea is up to) is bad enough, but why did she have to bring Petal, Thea’s most annoying lodger, along for the ride?

And worst of all, Petal is accompanied by her uncle, the enigmatic Ben, a man Thea has sworn never to like. The timing is terrible - Rory’s dog is about to have puppies - but even more alarming is that the more Rory pursues Thea, the more maddeningly attractive she finds Ben…

Book News: Hedge Fund Wives by Tatiana Boncompagni

Posted on Friday, July 17th, 2009 by Chloe

Avon Books (part of HarperCollins) always bring out some great chick-lit novels, and I found this book on their website. It’s due out on the 6th of August and is called Hedge Fund Wives. I’ve not heard of the author Tatiana Boncompagni before, but it sounds like a great read and one I’ll be trying to find a copy of. Here’s the synopsis:

“The fall from the top can be a long one…

Eager to play the part of dutiful wife, down-to-earth Marcy Emerson agrees to relocate from Chicago to New York City when her husband is offered a big-time job managing a hedge fund. Leaving behind her own dreams, Marcy forgoes finding a new job in favour of trying to start a family. Besides, as she soon discovers, hedge fund wives don’t work, they play. Hard.… Although at first it’s fun to shop and party, Marcy quickly realizes that to find her feet in this new world of excess and superficiality she needs true friends. Only problem is behind every smile lurks a stab in the back. But it’s not until her suddenly social climbing husband abruptly leaves her for his thinner, blonder mistress, that Marcy decides it’s time to stand on her own two feet and fight for the things that are far more important than money. In the throes of the credit crunch, this tantalising tale is perfect for fans of Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada who still want a bit of bling for their buck.”

Cover Change: The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes

Posted on Thursday, July 16th, 2009 by Leah

We posted the gorgeous black cover for Marian Keyes’ news book The Brightest Star in the Sky a while ago however there are now 2 covers floating around - the black one and a gold-y coloured one. I think both covers look great, but I think I probably prefer the original, black cover. Let us know what you think! The synopsis, if you still haven’t read it, reads:

At 66, Star Street in Dublin, someone is watching over the lives of the people living in its flats. But no one is aware of it – yet… One of them is ready to take the plunge and fall in love; another is torn between two very different lovers. For some, secrets they want to stay buried will come to light and for others, the unveiling of those secrets will have tragic consequences. Fate is on its way to Star Street, bringing with it love and tragedy, friendship and heartbreak, and the power to change their lives in the most unexpected of ways…

The Brightest Star in the Sky is released on the 29th October!

Thanks to Suzanna for bringing this to my attention!
