    Author Interview: Gemma Burgess

Posted on Wednesday, January 13th, 2010 by Leah

I adored Gemma Burgess’s debut novel The Dating Detox and was so thrilled that Gemma said yes when I asked if she would like to do an interview with us! Here it is and I for one think it’s a rather fantastic interview. Here are Gemma’s answers!

    1. Tell us about your debut novel The Dating Detox.

The Dating Detox is an anti-romantic comedy. It charts the adventures of relationship-challenged Sass as she navigates London’s bastard-infested waters with nothing but a vow of dating chastity to protect her…

I wanted to write a book that was about girls being very funny even when life is going badly wrong. Something that was comforting and chatty and warm but not fluffy or patronising.

    2. What can you tell us about your second book, The Late Starter/The Dating Virgin?

Ha – Oh God, I have to choose a title soon, I’d love your readers thoughts on it!

I think The Dating Virgin has a nice ring to it, but I don’t want people to think it’s a sequel to The Dating Detox, as it’s a different story altogether: it’s about a girl who leaves her boyfriend after a seven-year relationship and has to learn to date and be single from scratch… It’s something that a lot of women I know have been through and it’s very hard. Her flatmate is a classic class-A bastard, and he teaches her everything he knows, and so she approaches the dating world like a man – or more specifically, like a bastard…

Posted on Wednesday, January 13th, 2010 by Chloe

rules by jane beatonYet another 2010 release that’s had it’s cover changed before publication is Jane Beaton’s second novel Rules. I prefer this one by far to the original which you can still see here, but we’ve still got to wait until 18th March 2010 to read it! Here’s the synopsis:

“For the second year at Downey House, it’s getting harder and harder to stick to the rules …It’s about making them …Now she’s engaged to sweet and steady Stan, Maggie’s just got to stop thinking about David McDonald, her opposite number at Downey Boys …hasn’t she? Can Maggie take a leaf out of the Well Behaved Teacher’s exercise book - and stick to it? It’s about breaking them …But headmistress Veronica Deveral has more to lose than anyone. When Daniel Stapleton joins the faculty, she’s forced to confront her scandalous secret. How long will she be able to keep it under wraps?”

Book News: Designer Genes by Emma Hannigan

Posted on Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 by Leah

Emma Hannigan’s debut novel Designer Genes was originally released last year but the paperback version will be out on January 29th. It sounds very interesting and one I’ll definitely be on the look out for! Here’s the synopsis:

Emily Cusack’s got it all sorted. A loving husband, two adorable kids and a gorgeous home. All she needs now is an au pair, for life to be truly perfect. Her friend Susie is content too. A brilliant psychotherapist, she’s got an elegant flat, a wardrobe full of ball-busting suits, a sleek sports car and doesn’t need a man, thank you very much. The only jeans the friends normally encounter are the designer version. Then Emily learns about genes of a different kind and why she could be a carrier of a cancer-causing one.

Emily doesn’t take much lying down and deals with this in her decisive way. But can her marriage survive the aftershock? Emily’s news rocks Susie and makes her take a long hard look at her own self-sufficient life. Brought up by her loving but ditzy single mum, Susie has never known her father. Now she decides to do something about it. But she’s in for more than she bargains for! One thing’s for sure - life will never be the same again after a trip on this roller-coaster of discovery.

sasha wagstaff wicked gamesSasha Wagstaff’s second novel Wicked Games is due for release on 18th March 2010 and the beautiful cover has finally been released. Isn’t it fantastic? The synopsis sounds fantastic also:

Cover Change: Foursome by Jane Fallon

Posted on Monday, January 11th, 2010 by Chloe

It looks like the cover of Jane Fallon’s third novel Foursome has been changed to follow the covers of her previous two books! A light blue cover had originally been released but it seems this is the official one. The book is due out on 4th March 2010, and sounds fab. I loved Jane’s other books so I can’t wait for this one.

“Rebecca, Daniel, Alex and Isabel have been best friends since university. Rebecca married Daniel, Alex married Isabel and, for twenty years, they have been inseparable. But all that is about to change…When Alex walks out on Isabel, Rebecca thinks things can’t get any worse. But then she finds out the reason why and she’s left harbouring a secret she’d rather forget…And there’s more upheaval to come in Rebecca’s life as her emaciated, neurotic, self-obsessed colleague, Lorna - her arch nemesis at work - suddenly becomes a regular feature in her social life. Rebecca’s once-happy foursome is now a distant memory and with hearts broken and friendships fractured, it seems that change is never a good thing. Or is it?”
