Book News: Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

Posted on Friday, January 8th, 2010 by Leah

When Sophie Kinsella mentioned a few months ago that she was working on another Shopaholic I nearly went into hyperspace. The Shopaholic series is my favourite. series. ever. and I couldn’t wait to find out what the title would be never mind the synopsis or cover. The next Shopaholic will be titled MINI SHOPAHOLIC (yes, it deserves caps) and is due out on 16th September 2010 (WHY SO LONG?). The synopsis is also finally up and here you go - get your heads around this:

Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) thought motherhood would be a breeze - but it’s trickier than she thought. Two-year-old Minnie is a little tearaway who has created havoc everywhere from Harrods to Harvey Nicks to her own christening. She hires taxis at random, her favourite word is ‘Mine’, and she already has a penchant for Balenciaga bags. Becky is at her wits’ end.

On top of this, she and Luke are still living with her Mum and Dad, there’s a big financial crisis so everyone’s having to Cut Back - including all her personal shopping clients - and her husband Luke is feeling low after the death of his beloved stepmother. To cheer Luke up, Becky decides to throw him a surprise birthday party - on a budget - and that’s when things become really complicated. As Becky tries to keep the arrangements secret, misunderstandings and excuses sprout everywhere, and soon she’s told so many fibs she can’t keep track of them. Will Becky pull off the surprise? Will Minnie give everything away? Will Minnie’s godparents ever stop arguing? Who will end up on the naughty step and who will get a gold star? And what will happen when Becky discovers Luke is keeping a big secret too?

I really don’t think I can wait until September. Truly I don’t. This makes Sophie Kinsella week in September OFFICIAL. Just reading the synopsis makes me want to re-read all of Becky’s adventures RIGHT NOW. Don’t worry I will be re-reading all of the Shopaholics as well as Sophie’s other books in readiness for SOPHIE KINSELLA WEEK. Words cannot describe how much I love Sophie Kinsella/Shopaholic series/Becky Bloomwood. I just hope Sophie doesn’t break Becky and Luke up otherwise I’ll be after her with a very sharp object.

Book Review: The Disengagement Ring by Clodagh Murphy

Posted on Friday, January 8th, 2010 by Leah

Kate O’Neill wants to settle down and have a family, so when her tree-hugging boyfriend Brian finally asks her to marry him, she says yes. She doesn’t even mind the fact there’s no ring to go with his proposal. Kate’s family, however, have other ideas and her mother Grace and sister Rachel set about sabotaging the engagement.

Their plan is to have Kate spend the summer in Tuscany with Will, the love of Kate’s life, in a bid to show Kate what she could have if she broke up with the tree-hugger. As Kate, Will and Walking Wounded (the band Will manages), head off to Tuscany, will Kate see that settling for second best isn’t what she wants and that it’s Will who truly is the love of her life?

Book News: I Heart Paris by Lindsey Kelk

Posted on Friday, January 8th, 2010 by Leah

I Heart Paris, Lindsey Kelk’s third book in the I Heart series starring Angela Clark, is due out on the 8th July 2010 and like I Heart New York and I Heart Hollywood, will be set in a completely different location to the last one - this time it’s Paris! I wasn’t a huge fan of the first two books (although Hollywood picked up a little), and I will probably read this, but I have to be honest and say it sounds the same as books 1 & 2 bar the destination in which it’s set (girl gets assignment of her dreams, goes to a fab destination, has boyfriend trouble). One thing I do love, though, is the cover! Here’s the synopsis:

Angela is in the City of Love - but her own love life is heading for trouble…

Angela Clark is a British girl living the dream in fabulous New York. But she’s never been to the romantic capital of the world - Paris. So when her lead singer boyfriend Alex suggests a trip there and she is asked to write insider’s guide to the hip city - she jumps at the chance!

Meandering along charming streets, perusing Paris’s hot destinations - all in the name of research - Angela decides she could get used to the joie de vivre of Paris. But there’s something awry, Angela soon realises that evil forces are at work, conspiring to sabotage her big break… And when she spots Alex having a tête-à-tête with his ex in a Paris bar - without best friend Jenny to counsel her - Angela begins to crumble.

With London and her old life only a train journey away - now is the time to decide if she should stay and face the music or return to the safety of home.
