Exclusive Cover: The Good Bride Guide by Matt Dunn

Posted By Leah on August 5th, 2009

mattdunnthegoodbrideguideThe lovely people at Simon & Schuster have emailed us the approved cover of Matt Dunn’s newest book The Good Bride Guide. It’s due for release on 5th October and the cover is beautiful. Not only that but the book’s really funny (currently reading it - again, thanks S&S!). The synopsis for The Good Bride Guide reads:

Ben Grant is fed up with always meeting the wrong girl. Having just celebrated his 29th birthday by being dumped by his 29th girlfriend, he decides he can’t go on like this. Why can’t he be as blissfully happy as his best friend Ashif, about to marry the beautiful Priti, a bride chosen for him by his parents?

Suddenly Ben has a great idea: why not ask his own parents to do the same for him? But while Ben’s parents see this as the perfect opportunity to set their son on the right path to matrimonial bliss, it soon becomes clear that Ben’s idea of the kind of woman he wants to settle down with is quite different from that of his somewhat traditional mum and dad.

Following a series of disastrous dates, Ben starts to realize that he wouldn’t let his parents pick him out a shirt to wear, let alone a woman to marry. But when Ben finally meets the girl he thinks might be ‘the one’, he realizes that maybe he does have something to learn from his mum and dad after all. Can he learn the art of romance from his parents and land the girl of his dreams?

anniemaysblackbookdebbyholtEntries from Annie May’s Black Book:

October 15th, 1974: Miss Baker for telling me how to blow my nose and not believing when I still couldn’t do it.
February 6th, 1977: David Llewellyn for saying my landscape painting looked like a pig’s trough and then making honking noises every time he saw me.
April 12th, 1987: Peter Elton for ‘borrowing’ my cigarettes and never buying any of his own. 9th February, 1988: BEN SEYMOUR FOR EVERYTHING FOR EVER

In her Black Book, Annie May has recorded the name and offence of everyone who has ever done her wrong. The greatest transgressor of them all was Ben Seymour: the man who jilted her at the altar seventeen years ago. Now he’s moving into a house round the corner

Chick Lit Reviews Asks….

Posted By Leah on August 5th, 2009

So since we started the blog we’ve been trying to make it better and better. Some failed attempts (see: show us your bookcases!) but we’ve also had a lot of success - our reviews are liked, authors are happy to do interviews with us and with any luck our short story contest will work out.

However, we want feedback from your, our readers. What do you like about the site, what do you dislike, what could we do to improve the site? etc.

One thing I was wondering about was a newsletter. We’d send one out each month featuring our pick of the reviews we’ve written, our pick of the books released as well as whatever author interviews we’ve posted that month.

I hope you’ll comment and let us know what you think of the site - we don’t mind if there’s something you hate! (Honest!)

What do YOU think of Chick Lit Reviews? Come on now, don’t be shy….
