Looking for a book…

As a blogger about all things chick-lit I should know the answer to my question - trouble is, I don’t! I’m looking for a book that I read a while ago. I’m pretty sure it was a chick-lit book. From what I can remember I think it was written in first-person and the main character sees her dad go out into the back garden one night and kill himself. I know that sounds dramatic but in the context of the book I don’t think it was quite like that!
I hope someone can tell me what book it was because I really can’t think what it was.
