Book News: Girl Friday by Jane Green

Posted By Leah on May 25th, 2009

Jane Green’s eleventh novel, Girl Friday, is released on 11th June. I didn’t really enjoy Jemima J and barely made it to 30 or so pages before giving up I decided to give Jane a second chance - oh the irony - and picked up Second Chance, which I’m currently reading. I’m enjoying it so may try more of Jane’s books (tell me your favourites of Jane’s) particularly since Girl Friday, Dune Road in the US, sounds such a good read:

When Kit and Adam separated after almost fifteen years of marriage, Kit felt like she had lost her lover, her best friend and her identity all in one fell swoop. But now, a year on from the divorce, Kit has found herself again and she loves her life in the idyllic Connecticut town of Highfield.

She has the perfect job – working for Robert McClore, the famous novelist – two wonderful children, a good relationship with her ex-husband and time to enjoy yoga with her friends. Then Tracy, Kit’s yoga instructor and close friend, introduces her to Steve – attentive, charming, the perfect gentleman – and, for the first time in years, Kit thinks she may have found the right one. But is Steve really as perfect as he seems?

And why does it bother Kit when Tracy starts dating Kit’s reclusive boss, Robert? What no one knows is that Tracy is hiding a secret – one that threatens to ruin her new-found happiness with Robert and her friendship with Kit. And now Tracy must decide whether to keep her past hidden from them both for ever or whether she should reveal the truth before it’s too late…

Book Review: Heaven Sent by Christina Jones

christinajonesheavensentClemmie has a problem - she’s had almost as many jobs as she’s had birthdays and her lovelife is on the critical list. But with the big 3-0 looming she’s determined to transform herself from unemployed singleton to loved-up success.

Trouble is Clemmie’s dream job would be working for local entrepreneur Guy Devlin, owner of the famous pyrotechnics company, The Gunpowder Plot.

He’d also be high on her list of candidates for significant other too. But Guy has a whole veritable cargo hold of baggage - avaricious ex-wife, a host of monster ex-step children.

He’s not even looking for an assistant. And if he was a quirky amateur firework maker with a penchant for cream cakes and big explosions wouldn’t be high on his list.

Book News: Recipe for Scandal by Debby Holt

Posted By Chloe on May 25th, 2009

Although her latest book was only released a couple of months ago, Debby Holt has a new release due out in January 2010 called Recipe for Scandal. I have read 3 of Debby’s book and am halfway through her latest ‘Love Affairs for Grown-Ups’ which is super. Here is the synopsis for Recipe for Scandal:

“Living with her partner, Tony, his parents and their precocious teenage son, Alberta Granger considers she belongs to the perfect modern extended family. With her catering business booming and her daughter embarking on a glittering career in London, Bertie reckons she can cope with the mild irritants of her difficult stepson’s visits and her father’s ongoing disapproval of Tony. But some truly shocking news is about to rock Bertie’s world to its foundations. As a torrent of tabloid headlines engulfs the family in a very public scandal, Bertie is forced to face the fact that some of her nearest and dearest, those closest family members she thought she knew so well, have been keeping secrets, leading mysterious double lives she knew nothing about. As revelation follows revelation, old wounds re-open and former grudges re-surface. Is Bertie’s family unit tight enough to survive? Is her relationship with Tony solid enough to withstand the battering? And, when temptation arises in the form of a handsome stranger, is Bertie herself strong enough to resist? “

It’s available pre-order now on Amazon.co.uk with a release date of 4th January 2010. For more information about Debby and her books, see her website at http://www.debbyholt.co.uk/

Book Review: It's A Kind of Magic by Carole Matthews

itsakindofmagiccarolematthewsEmma and Leo are complete opposites. Leo is unreliable, a bit childish and doesn’t take life, love or his job all too seriously, yet his girlfriend Emma is strict, reliable, tidy and enjoys her life being in order.

This is why, when Leo turns up at Emma’s 30th birthday drunk and incredibly late, she decides the pair are splitting up. But on his way home, a newly single Leo bumps into a lady on Tower Bridge named Isobel. Strange things then start happening to Leo and Emma, but neither can work out what is going on.

Emma realises she wants Leo back but is it too late? And just who is the mysterious Isobel?
