Author Interview: Paige Toon

Posted By Leah on May 7th, 2009

paigetoonWhen I first thought of doing author interviews Paige Toon was one of the first authors I wanted to email to interview. Thankfully she said yes and it meant I could ask her the one question I’ve been wanting to ask her since I read Johnny Be Good: did you purposefully leave the ending ambiguous? You’ll be glad to know Paige answered that question and more.

If you don’t know who Paige is, she is the author of Lucy in the Sky (which I loved - and will review) and Johnny Be Good (which I loved and have reviewed) with her new novel, Chasing Daisy, out in July.

1. Describe your latest novel in a sentence.

It’s about a girl who falls in love with a racing driver, but he has a childhood sweetheart so there’s quite a lot of heartache!

Book News: Mike Gayle

Posted By Leah on May 7th, 2009

Mike Gayle, author of My Legendary Girlfriend, Mr. Commitment, Turning Thirty, Dinner for Two, His ‘n’ Hers, Brand New Friend, Wish You Were Here, The Life & Soul of The Party and The To Do List has sent out a newsletter which has news in of his new book as well as a potential sequel to one of our favourite novels. First, about his 10th novel:

I‘ve finally finished book 10! It was initially going to be called The Bachelors but that’s now changed to The Importance of Being a Bachelor (which may or may not end up being the actual title). It’s about three brothers and their various relationship problems and the word from my editor who has only just this second read it is that it’s “completely and utterly unputdownable.” All being well it should be available to buy (April 2010).

And now, news about a potential sequel:

And finally…now that book 10 is done I’ve got to start thinking about book 11 and for the very first time in my writing career I’m giving some serious thought to writing a sequel! Which book is it going to be? Well before you start guessing let me just say why I’m thinking of doing this:
i) Because pretty soon it will have been ten years since this particular book was published.
ii) Of all my books this one was always felt as though there was a lot of unfinished business between the main characters.
iii) I’ve got a feeling that it will be a lot of fun to write.

So to put you out of your misery the book I’m thinking about writing a sequel to is (cue drum roll): Turning Thirty.

I’d love a sequel to Turning Thirty. To find out more about Mike and to subscribe to his newsletter visit his website.

Author of the Week: Jill Mansell

jill_mansellJill Mansell is one of the UK’s best women’s fiction writers, and rightly so. She’s been writing books since 1991, when her first book Fast Friends was released. She’s since gone on to write another 19 books, all of which have been enormous successes. You can’t go into a bookshop without seeing a large chunk of a shelf taken up with Jill’s brilliant books!

Here’s a bit about the lady herself:

Jill Mansell lives with her partner and children in Bristol, and writes full time. Actually that’s not true; she watches TV, eats fruit gums, admires the rugby players training in the sports field behind her house, and spends hours on the internet marvelling at how many other writers have blogs. Only when she’s completely run out of displacement activities does she write.”

Jill’s latest release is Rumour Has It and I really enjoyed it. The book was a really fun read, and had a great story as well as likeable characters which is everything a good book needs to be a success! You can read the review of Jill’s newest book here on Chick Lit Reviews & News.
