Book News: Rebecca Chance's second novel

Posted on Monday, December 7th, 2009 by Chloe

It’s untitled as of yet, but I was pleased to find out that Rebecca Chance has another novel due out next summer. I loved her debut book Divas, and although this is as yet untitled, I have managed to find a synopsis for it. It’s not due out until 5th August 2010 but here’s the plot:

“They met in rehab - but some of them had rather more therapy than they bargained for. Supermodel Amber Davis should have the world at her feet. But her secret addiction has led her down a dangerous path. Lap dancer Skye Ellwood is desperate to get out of the life she’s living, but has no idea how - until a client makes her an unusual proposition. Following an ultimatum from his fiance, A-list movie star Joe Jeffreys is finally heading to rehab to sort out his sex addiction - and save his squeaky-clean image. Spoiled daughter of a legendary rock god, Petal Gold is convinced she’s a huge star in waiting, and she’ll trample on anyone she thinks is standing in her way. Passion, jealousy, betrayal, revenge and scandal: during their tumultuous thirty days at Cascabel clinic, the lives of Amber, Skye, Joe and Petal will be transformed forever. But for one of them, the stakes could not be higher - or more dangerous.”

    Author Interview: Patricia Scanlan

Posted on Saturday, December 5th, 2009 by Chloe

Patricia ScanlanPatricia Scanlan is one of the biggest names in women’s fiction, and has held her place at the top for a good many years now. I first heard of Patricia because my mum absolutely loves her books, and is always trying to get me to read the City Girl trilogy which I must find the time to read! I recently had the pleasure of reading Patricia’s latest book, a Christmas themed title called Coming Home. It was a lovely read, and Patricia was kind enough to do an interview with us, so here it is!

Q1. Tell us about your latest book “Coming Home”.

Coming Home is about two sisters who have different perceptions about each other’s lives, Alison Dunwoody’s high flying financial career is on the skids when she’s made jobless due to the financial melt-down, her Upper East Side apartment is now way beyond her means and she’s far from financially secure. But pride prevents her from telling her family back home. Her sister Olivia is finding it difficult to juggle family, career, caring for their elderly uncle, trying to make preparations for Christmas and organize a surprise party for her mother’s seventieth birthday. She envies and sometimes resents Alison whom she thinks has a great life in New York. Coming home is the last thing Alison wants to do especially now that she’s met a rather dishy, sexy, down to earth neighbour who doesn’t believe in ‘non exclusive dating’ unlike her wealthy boyfriend, Jonathan. But family ties are strong and Alison comes home and gets to really know her family again especially her young nieces who are having a magical time, stirring the puddings and making wishes, lighting the candle in the window on Christmas Eve, performing their Nativity play in Church on Christmas Morning, after the excitement of Santa’s arrival, and having a very merry Christmas dinner. Alison comes to realise that the love of her family is far more important than wealth and success, Olivia recognizes how lucky she is to have a happy marriage and three lovely children and how great it’s been to have her sister home to share good times with their parents. At the end of the day, family is more important than anything.

Book News: Envy by Coleen Nolan

Posted on Saturday, December 5th, 2009 by Chloe

Yet another celebrity has turned their hand to writing fiction and this time its the turn of “Loose Woman” Coleen Nolan, also of The Nolans fame. Coleen already has an autobiography out, but is trying to write fiction this time, and her debut offering Envy is due out next summer on June 4th 2010. I have no idea if Coleen is writing it herself or using a synopsis but either way I am intrigued to read it. Here’s the synopsis:

“Television favourite Karen King loves three things: her job as presenter on a late night talk show, her gorgeous husband Jason, and her Spanx[registered] pants, guaranteed to give the plumpest woman a waistline. She’s happy, but fate is about to turn her ordered world upside down. Surprise number one is finding Jason in bed with a young blonde. Karen’s barely over the shock when she’s hotly tipped to take over primetime’s highest-rating chat show. She wants the job - but so do some of the biggest divas in showbiz, not least the icy Julia Hill who will do absolutely anything to sabotage Karen. As the biggest catfight in town kicks off can Karen sort out her life and win television’s greatest prize? With its glamorous characters and captivating heroine, Envy is a sexy, funny, unforgettable read.”

Book News: Can You See Me? by Ruth Gilligan

Posted on Friday, December 4th, 2009 by Leah

can you see me ruth gilliganRuth Gilligan may only be 21 but she’s already had two novels published, Forget and Somewhere In Between. Her third novel, Can You See Me?, will be published by Hodder on April 1st 2010 and sounds fantastic. I adore the cover, also. Here’s the synopsis:

When Alice arrives on campus amidst the ancient splendour of Cambridge University, she thinks she’s found her wonderland. Then one night something happens – one inexplicable act ruins everything and she finds herself alone. Alice will not admit defeat; having practically raised her two brothers single-handedly, she is good at being strong. Too good.

But Soon her dark secret becomes too much and the cracks begin to show. Her weekly meetings with Flo, the stranger on the bench, become her lifeline. And try as she might to bury the dark truth of that awful night, she begins to realise that some things have to be faced up to. It’s time for Alice to look at her broken reflection and start to put the pieces back together…

Book Cover: Sweet Temptation by Lucy Diamond

Posted on Friday, December 4th, 2009 by Leah

lucy diamond sweet temptationI loved Lucy Diamond’s latest book Hens Reunited and I was so happy when I saw her fourth book was already up on Amazon. It seems Pan Macmillan have finally given Lucy a decent book cover, one that’s modern and that will make people pick the book up. I love the cover for Sweet Temptation and can’t wait until it’s released on 7th May 2010. Here’s the synopsis:

Maddie’s getting it from all sides. Her bitchy new boss at the radio station humiliates her live on air about her figure, her glamour-puss mum keeps dropping not-so-subtle hints that Maddie should lose weight and her kids are embarrassed to be seen with her after the disastrous Mums’ race at their school sports day. Something’s got to change…

Maddie joins the local weight-watching group expecting more humiliation but instead finds two unlikely allies – bitter divorcee Lauren who, despite running a dating agency, has signed off romance for ever and shy Jess, the beautician, who’s desperate to fit into a size 10 wedding dress for her Big Day.

Movie News: Something Borrowed (Emily Giffin)

Posted on Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 by Leah

emilygiffinborrowedLuke Greenfield (“The Girl Next Door”) has fallen for “Something Borrowed” and will direct the romance, produced by Alcon Entertainment toppers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson along with Hilary Swank and Molly Smith through their 2S Films banner.

Aaron Lubin and Pamela Schein Murphy of Wild Ocean Films will also produce. “Something Borrowed,” based on Emily Giffin’s debut novel of the same name, is being fast-tracked for a shoot in the spring and summer.

Greenfield produced Universal’s “Role Models.” Swank and Smith collaborated with Alcon on the romantic comedy “P.S. I Love You,” starring Swank and Gerard Butler with Alcon financing and producing.

Jennie Urman penned the script, which centers on a Manhattan attorney who becomes involved with her best friend’s fiancé following her 30th birthday, forcing her to decide between a life-long friend and the man of her dreams.

Greenfield is repped by CAA and Urman is repped by UTA.

From Variety.com via Emily Giffin’s Twitter.

I absolutely cannot wait for this movie. I really really really hope Hilary Swank stars as Rachel as I think she’s a hugely talented actress and I loved her as Holly in PS, I Love You. Something Borrowed is one of my favourite chick lit books ever so I truly cannot wait for it to be transferred to the big screen. The IMDB page for Something Borrowed says it’ll be released in 2011! Who would you cast as Rachel, Dex and Darcy? As I said, I’d love to see Hilary Swank as Rachel or maybe Anne Hathaway (I love her) however I have no idea who I’d cast for Dex or Darcy.
