Book News: Win A Copy of Twenties Girl (US ONLY)

Posted on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 by Leah

I’ve just had a Sophie Kinsella newsletter saying that Random House have 30 galleys (early copies) of Sophie Kinsella’s new novel Twenties Girl to give away. Head over to the website to enter your name. US RESIDENTS ONLY. (You have no idea how much that kills me - I wish I lived in the US!) Hurry though the offer expires June 10th.

Twenties Girl is out July 21st and the synopsis reads:

It’s about twenty-something Lara Lington, who gets an unlikely visit from none other than her great aunt Sadie’s ghost! Sadie is a feisty, 1920s girl with firm ideas on fashion, love and the right way to dance… and she has a mission for Lara: track down her missing necklace. Lara and Sadie make a hilarious, sparring duo, and at first it seems as though they have nothing in common. But as the mission turns to intrigue and then romance, perhaps they can learn some surprising lessons from each other. It’s a fun, sparkly book, with two great new heroines, and I really hope you enjoy it.

Book News: Hope In A Jar by Beth Harbison

Posted on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 by Leah

bethharbisonhopeinajarBeth Harbison, author of Shoe Addicts Anonymous and Secrets of a Shoe Addict, is back with her third novel on July 7th titled Hope In A Jar. It sounds like a really great read:

Twenty years ago, Allie Denty was the pretty one and her best friend Olivia Pelham was the smart one. Throughout high school, they were inseparable…until a vicious rumor about Olivia— a rumor too close to the truth—ended their friendship.

Now, on the eve of their twentieth high school reunion, Allie, a temp worker, finds herself suddenly single, a little chubby, and feeling old. Olivia, a cool and successful magazine beauty editor in New York, realizes she’s lonely, and is finally ready to face her demons.

Sometimes hope lives in the future; sometimes it comes from the past; and sometimes, when every stupid thing goes wrong, it comes from a prettily packaged jar filled with scented cream and promises.

Book News: Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts by Lucy Dillon

Posted on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 by Chloe

Lucy Dillon’s debut novel The Ballroom Class was an exquisite read, so I was thrilled to see that her new book, Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts, is now on Amazon with a release date of November 25th 2009. There is no cover up as of yet, but they have put a synopsis so here it is to get you in the mood for the book!

“When the abandoned strays from a local dogs’ home are matched with brand new owners, it turns out it might not just be the dogs who need rescuing.

Rachel’s aunt has left her a house, a Border Collie and, despite knowing nothing about dogs, a crowded kennels. But since her life has collapsed she’s not sure she can deal with any more lost souls.

Zoe’s ex-husband has given their children a puppy. The kids are in love, but she’s the one stuck training Toffee the impossible Labrador. She’s nearly at the end of her tether – until Toffee leads her to a handsome doctor…

Meanwhile Natalie and Johnny’s marriage hasn’t been easy since they started trying for a baby. But is a fridge-raiding, sofa-stealing Basset hound like Bertie really the child substitute they’re looking for?

As the new owners’ paths cross on the town’s dog-walking circuits, their lives become interwoven. And they – and their dogs – learn some important lessons about loyalty, companionship and unconditional love . .”

If it’s as good as The Ballroom Class, then it’s going to be a fantastic read and one to look out for later in the year!

ceceliathegiftLou lives in Dublin, is happily married to Ruth with 2 children and has a highly paid architects job. But the one thing Lou needs more of is time.

He works all the hours god sends, has been known to have the odd affair which he’s hidden from his wife, and his work/life balance isn’t too good. Lou decides to do someone a good turn and employs the homeless man from the street Gabe. But Gabe soon unsettles Lou, appearing to be in 2 places at once and seemingly following Lou around.

But is he to be the one to teach Lou a very important lesson about time and what is the most important thing to him? This story shows us how people are just like parcels - lots of layers that need peeling away to uncover just what is inside.
