Book News: Kardashian sisters to write a book

Posted By Chloe on May 26th, 2011

They may be somewhat of an American phenomenon, but the Kardashian sisters are taking the world by storm, and now are bringing out their very own fiction novel! Kourtney, Kim and Khloe’s new book is due out on November 1st 2011 (US release date), and is yet untitled. However, the publishers are running a contest to allow fans to give it the title, simply tweet @harpercollins with the hash tag #TitleMeK with your ideas!

Publishers have described the book as “”three gorgeous celebrity sisters, their complicated relationships with Hollywood, each other and the glamorous lives they lead in front of the cameras and behind the scenes.”… how much of that is based on their real lives do we think?!

Cover Wars: Sin Tropez by Aita Ighodaro

Posted By Leah on May 26th, 2011

Aita Ighodaro’s debut novel Sin Tropez was released last year, and I must admit when I saw the cover (left) I thought it looked cheap and tacky (and that’s why I declined the chance to review it! However Chloe will be reviewing it in July). So I must admit, I’m really pleased they’ve decided to change the cover for the paperback release in July (right). I’d almost certainly buy the new cover over the old cover. Question is, which would you buy?

For best friends Tara and Abena, an invitation to stay on a luxury yacht in St Tropez is a chance to indulge in riotous hedonism and reckless adventure. For Latvian model Natalya, it is a long-awaited opportunity. Dazzlingly beautiful but haunted by her childhood, she wants to find an oligarch who can fund her future - and help her forget her past. But when Abena becomes embroiled in a passionate and dangerous affair, Tara’s partying spirals out of control, and Natalya discovers the dark consequences of getting what you wish for, the jet-set lifestyle starts to look a lot less glamorous.

Book Review: Something From Tiffany’s by Melissa Hill

Posted By Chloe on May 25th, 2011

One Christmas Eve in New York City, 2 men are buying their lucky women a very special gift… something from Tiffany’s, 5th Avenue! Gary is buying his girlfriend Rachel a silver charm bracelet. He doesn’t want to spend too much and think it’ll make a lovely last-minute gift for her, despite the fact she paid for the entire trip over to New York City. Ethan on the other hand is splashing quite a lot of cash on a very special ring for his girlfriend Vanessa, the lady who has made him happy again after the loss of his wife a few years ago. However, when a freak accident occurs, the men end up with each other’s bags and Rachel ends up with Ethan’s ring, and a very shocked Gary doesn’t understand what is going on. Ethan desperately tries to track down his engagement ring and sort out the problem once and for all, but does the ring have a mind of its own about who it should end up with? Maybe it’s just the Tiffany’s magic…

Book News: Baby Be Mine by Paige Toon

Posted By Leah on May 25th, 2011

We posted a while back about Paige Toon’s new novel, but we can now officially confirm that it will indeed be called Baby Be Mine (rather than Be My Baby). It’s due out on 21st July 2011 (why so far away? I want to read it now!) and the cover has finally been revealed by Simon & Schuster UK on Twitter! I must admit, I feel a bit anti-climatic. The cover is nice, but that’s just it, it’s nice. It doesn’t hold a candle, unfortunately, to Paige’s previous covers. It lacks the sparkle factor. Either way, though, I cannot wait for this book - it’s been a long time coming! Here’s the synopsis:

‘He’s not mine, is he?’ That’s the question I fear the most. You see, I have a secret. My son is not fathered by my boyfriend, but by one of the most famous people that ever lived. And he doesn’t even know it. One-time celebrity personal assistant to wild boy of rock Johnny Jefferson, Meg Stiles is now settled and living in the south of France with her doting boyfriend Christian and their son Phoenix. But they’re living a lie - a lie that will turn their lives upside down and inside out - because Meg’s son doesn’t look like Christian, he looks like his rock star father, and sooner or later, the world is going to realise...

Book News: Breakfast in Bed by Eleanor Moran

Posted By Chloe on May 25th, 2011

Eleanor Moran is back this summer with her new book, Breakfast in Bed, on 21st July 2011. I read Moran’s debut novel a few years ago and really enjoyed it, so I will certainly be looking out for a copy of this one. I quite like the cover as well, quite cute and quirky! Here’s the synopsis:

“At 31, Amber’s getting bombarded with wedding invitations just as she’s collecting her divorce papers. Her wedding photos are hidden in her parents’ attic; her dress sold on eBay; the top layer of the wedding cake skewered by a well-aimed Louboutin. With a heart that’s bruised but not quite broken, Amber is determined to rebuild her life and pursue the career she’s always dreamed of: as a top chef. She knows she has what it takes. But to achieve her dream she must be prepared to work harder than she’s ever worked before - she’s being trained by celebrity chef Oscar Retford and his temper, and ability to fire people on the spot, is as legendary as the food he creates. Amber doesn’t mind hard work - it stops her thinking about why her marriage failed. But, as she discovers, erasing the past is nowhere near as easy as she thinks. And Oscar’s kitchen is also the place to provide an unexpected spark of passion …”

Do Judge A Book By Its Cover: California Dreamers

Overall design:

Why we like/dislike it: Along with Lindsey Kelk’s book cover for ‘The Single Girl’s To-Do List’, this has to be one of my favourite book covers this year with ease! The gorgeous bright blue sky, stand out pink text in the heart shape and the small beach scene at the bottom convey the idea that this is a fun filled beach read with ease, and will certainly jump out at you from a book shelf! Belinda has always had gorgeous book covers, but I think this has to be her best and if the story inside is as good as the cover, we’re in for a real treat! Superb, one of my favourite covers ever.
Overall mark out of 10:

Would we buy this book based on its cover? Yes!!

Do Judge A Book By Its Cover is a new feature on Chick Lit Reviews, where we take a look at some of the best (and worst) Chick Lit covers in existence. No synopsis, no hint of the story, just plain old book cover judging, with marks out of 10!

Book Review: To My Best Friends by Sam Baker

Posted By Chloe on May 24th, 2011

When Nicci Morrison becomes very ill and knows she is going to die, she decides to write letters to each of her best friends with instructions for them, from everything to their love lives to how to help raise her young twin girls who will be left without a mother. However, Nicci doesn’t count on her friends finding it difficult to cope with her requests. Mona is left Nicci’s husband David, which puts the two of them in a very awkward position, and one neither particularly wants to go through with. Jo is left Nicci’s twin girls to look after, as Nicci felt that she’d be a great mother considering she can’t have children of her own. And finally, Lizzie is left Nicci’s beloved garden, but is completely rubbish at gardening and is sure she is going to fail. Will Nicci’s best friends be able to cope with Nicci’s bequests and will it do damage beyond the death of their best friend to everyone?

Book News: And Then It Happened by Linda Green

Posted By Leah on May 24th, 2011

I’m a big fan of Linda Green, thoroughly enjoying her last two novels 10 Reasons Not To Fall In Love and Things I Wish I’d Known and her fourth novel And Then It Happened is due out in hardback in July (although that will probably just be at airports) with the paperback following on 27th October 2011. I’m not a fan of the cover - it’s grey and dreary, and it lacks any kind of appeal. It’s rather ‘blah’, though I do like the font. Here’s the synopsis:

Mel Taylor found her Mr Right at age thirteen. Twenty years on they remain blissfully in love. Everything is perfect - she has the man she loves, a gorgeous daughter, a great job and a dream home. But Mel’s happiness is overshadowed by a niggling feeling that it’s all been a bit too easy. Despite her husband Adam’s efforts to reassure her that nothing bad is going to happen, Mel can’t shake the feeling that all good things must come to an end. And then it happens…
