AW Book News: With A Little Luck by Caprice Crane

Posted By Leah on May 29th, 2011

If you follow Caprice Crane on Twitter, you’ll know that she’s one of the funniest people around. Seriously, she should stop being an author and become a comedian. Actually, she shouldn’t stop being an author because I love her books. It is my great pleasure to tell you that Caprice’s fourth novel With A Little Luck is out in July! It sounds fabulous and it’s definitely on my pre-order list. I love the quirky cover. Will you be buying With A Little Luck?

If love is in the cards, then somebody stacked the deck.Los Angeles radio DJ Beryl “Berry” Lambert, whose name means luck, doesn’t much believe in it—although, thanks to her dear old gambling dad, she’s a bit superstitious, certain that everything happens for a reason. She keeps a four-leaf clover in her wallet, never takes off her horseshoe necklace, and won’t tempt fate by walking under a ladder or opening an umbrella indoors. Ever. When it comes to love, though, she could use a little luck. Two disastrous relationships back-to-back can mean only one thing to a woman who knows that everything good or bad happens in threes: A third Mr. Wrong is imminent. But fellow DJ Ryan Riley goes against the odds. Their on-air battle of the sexes is a hit for the station and sparks some serious heat after hours. Ryan is funny and sexy, and he thinks Berry’s quirkiness is cute. Is their romance doomed by the numbers—or is a girl who leaves nothing to chance finally ready to gamble?

Allison Pearson’s first novel I Don’t Know How She Does It came out in 2002 and the movie version starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, Olivia Munn and Kelsey Grammer will be out in September in the USA! The trailer has been released, and I must admit despite the fact I’m not a huge SJP fan, the movie looks really funny. Here’s what it’s about, and here’s the trailer too! Will you be going to see I Don’t Know How She Does It?

A comedy centered on the life of Kate Reddy, a finance executive who is the breadwinner for her husband and two kids.

AW Book Review: The Help by Kathryn Stockett

Posted By Leah on May 27th, 2011

Enter a vanished and unjust world: Jackson, Mississippi, 1962. Where black maids raise white children, but aren’t trusted not to steal the silver… There’s Aibileen, raising her seventeenth white child and nursing the hurt caused by her own son’s tragic death; Minny, whose cooking is nearly as sassy as her tongue; and white Miss Skeeter, home from College, who wants to know why her beloved maid has disappeared. Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny. No one would believe they’d be friends; fewer still would tolerate it. But as each woman finds the courage to cross boundaries, they come to depend and rely upon one another. Each is in a search of a truth. And together they have an extraordinary story to tell...

AW Book News: Stay by Allie Larkin

Posted By Leah on May 27th, 2011

Allie Larkin’s debut novel came out last year in hardback with a lovely blue cover, but for the paperback release on July 26 2011, Stay has had a re-design and is now even cuter! I mean come on! A dog. In a box. Filled with Styrofoam. Are they trying to kill me with cute? I love a good doggy tale. I have two dogs and I love them to pieces. So I’ll definitely be pre-ordering this one next month!

Savannah “Van” Leone has been in love with Peter Clarke since their first day of college. Six years later, Peter is marrying Van’s best friend, Janie. Loyal to a fault, Van dons her pumpkin-orange, maid-of- honor gown and stands up for the couple, struggling to hide her true feelings even when she couldn’t be more conspicuous. After the wedding, nursing her broken heart with a Rin Tin Tin marathon plus a vodka chaser, Van accidentally orders a German Shepherd puppy over the Internet. When “Joe” turns out to be a hundred-pound beast who only responds to commands in Slovak, Van is at the end of her rope-until she realizes that sometimes life needs to get more complicated before it can get better.

Have you read Stay? Is it as awesome as the cover?

AW Book News: Re-design for two of Carol Snow’s novels!

Posted By Leah on May 27th, 2011

Carol Snow’s new novel What Came First is out in October, but to whet your appetite for her new novel, her publishers have re-jacketed Been There, Done That and Getting Warmer with lovely new covers coming out in June and September respectively! I’ve pre-ordered them myself (I loved Carol’s novel Just Like Me Only Better). Will you be picking up the new covers and do you like them?

Been There Done That synopsis: Plenty of thirtysomething women would be thrilled to look like a teenager. But journalist Kathy Hopkin’s youthful appearance is forcing her into an undercover assignment she could do without: posing as a college freshman to get an expose on a secret prostitution ring. Now, Kathy’s got the chance to do it all over again. Hopefully things will go better the second time around.

Getting Warmer synopsis: Natalie Quackenbush is approaching thirty, drowning in debt-and living with her parents. It’s the kind of small talk she’d rather avoid. So she and her friends have found a way to entertain themselves on the Scottsdale, Arizona, singles scene: lying. Which isn’t a problem-until Natalie finally meets a guy she likes.

Book Review: Summer Loving by Allie Spencer

Posted By Leah on May 26th, 2011

There comes a point in a girl’s life when she just needs to hang out with her girlfriends - preferably in Greece - so they can laugh, reminisce and perhaps indulge in a holiday romance or two. Beth has reached that point, and being a woman who likes to organise things, she arranges the holiday of her dreams for her and her three best friends. However, the bars, clubs and wild nights of their imaginings are a far cry from the slow, quiet pace of life on Liminaki. But if they thought that meant they were in for a peaceful time, they soon discover their mistake. For a start, Ginny drives everyone mad talking about her bleeping wedding. Anna falls hook, line and sinker for the waiter. Beth succumbs to the charms of a handsome sailor. And something is definitely Up with Kirsten. And then Beth’s boyfriend turns up at a Very Bad Moment… surely things can’t get any more complicated?
