Book Review: RSVP by Helen Warner

Posted By Chloe on March 14th, 2011

Anna has never really gotten over her broken relationship with Toby, so when she receives an invitation to the wedding of Toby and wife-to-be Rachel, she is devastated and convinced her life is over. Her best friend Clare is on hand to help Anna snap out of her maudlin state of mind, and convinces Anna that it would be closure for her to attend the wedding. However, neither woman counts on their nemesis Ella de Bourg being present - after all Ella was the one who ruined everything between Toby and Anna. Anna’s miserable, Rachel is nervous and unsure she’s doing the right thing, Toby loves Rachel but is sure he loves someone else too, and Clare just wants someone to love. Is happiness for all of them too much to ask, or will the wedding bring out a few truths that will shatter their worlds forever?

Cover & Title Wars: Wedding Fever vs There’s Cake In My Future

Posted By Leah on March 14th, 2011

Kim Gruenenfelder’s third novel was released in the US-of-A in December 2010 under the title There’s Cake In My Future but after being picked up by HarperCollins in the UK it underwent a title change and will be released on 31st March called Wedding Fever. Personally, I love the US title because it fits the synopsis perfectly and I must admit, I also prefer the US cover (although the UK cover is beautiful). Which do you prefer?

Nicole has a wedding to organise, but first she has a cake to bake. After listening to her closest friends’ latest troubles, bride-to-be Nicole believes she has the perfect recipe for everyone’s happiness. So she sets to work on a hen party “cake pull” in which each ribboned silver charm planted in her cake will bring its recipient the magic she needs to change her destiny. Melissa, still ringless after dating the same man for six years, deserves the engagement ring charm. The red hot chilli pepper would be perfect for Seema, who is in love with her best friend Scott, but can’t seem to make their relationship more than platonic. And out-of-work journalist Nicole wants the shovel, which symbolizes hard work, to help her get her career back on track. But when the charmed cake is mysteriously shifted from the place settings Nicole arranged, no one gets the charm she chose for them. And when the other party guests’ fortunes begin coming true, Mel, Seema, and Nicole can’t help but wonder… Is the cake trying to tell them something?

Book News: About Last Night by Adele Parks

Posted By Chloe on March 14th, 2011

I read my first Adele Parks book last year, Men I’ve Loved Before, and I really enjoyed it. I was therefore pleased to see Adele is back this summer with her next novel, About Last Night. It’s due out on 23rd June 2011, and sounds like a really good read. The cover is also very pretty, showing off Adele’s new style covers, and its certainly one I will be looking out for.

“‘I need you to say that I was with you.’

With these simple words, two women’s enduring friendship is put to the ultimate test. For one, the appeal is borne of desperation to conceal a secret and a desire to protect her family. For the other, the request turns her world upside down. She is usually the one asking for help in a crisis, but nothing she’s ever faced has come close to this.

Now that the tables have turned, each woman much ask herself, how far will I go for my best friend?”
