Book Review: Forbidden Pleasures by Jo Rees

Posted By Chloe on August 11th, 2010

Savannah, a British IT girl whose Daddy runs a rather successful casino in Las Vegas, is somewhat sick of being a boring socialite. She wants more, but she doesn’t want to be a good girl to get there. A horrible accident at home means Savannah is forced to take stock of her life, and re-evaluate a few things too. She’s sent to a remote island for rehab which her family hopes will bring Savannah back onto the straight and narrow. On the other side of the world, Lois, an ex FBI cop, is finding her feet working for some more casino bosses, and working out what exactly they want from her, and what she wants from her own life too. Just how are the paths of these women going to cross, and with what consequences?

Cover Wars: Coming Home by Patricia Scanlan

Posted By Leah on August 11th, 2010

I was browsing on Amazon and saw that Transworld had changed the cover for the paperback version of Patricia Scanlan’s Christmas-sy novel Coming Home. The paperback version (right) is out on 25th November and I much prefer it to the hardback version (left)! Which do you prefer?

Two sisters…two very different lives. Alison’s American dream is in tatters. Her highflying career is on the skids in the financial meltdown. Her Upper East Side apartment is now way beyond her means . But pride prevents her from telling her family back home just how bad things are. Olivia is fraught trying to juggle family, career, preparations for Christmas and organize a surprise party for their mother’s seventieth birthday. How she envies, and sometimes resents, her sister Alison and her life of excitement and affluence in New York. Coming home is the last thing Alison wants to do, especially now that she’s met a rather attractive, sexy, down to earth neighbour who doesn’t believe in ‘non exclusive dating’ unlike her wealthy boyfriend, Jonathan. But family ties are strong. Alison and Olivia sort their differences, the party throws up a few surprises and Christmas brings changes for Alison that she could never have imagined before coming home.

During our Shopaholic week at the end of the month we’ll be posting three posts about why we all love Sophie Kinsella. One post will be from myself, Danielle and Chloe, one will be from authors and publishers and the third will be from the fans all beginning with the same sentence: ‘I love Sophie Kinsella because…’ and will list our own, separate reasons why.

Obviously for such a post to work, we need you guys to tell us why you love Sophie so leave a comment and tell us why you love Sophie Kinsella and we’ll add it to the list we already have and all reasons will be featured signed by all of you!
