Book Review: The Liberation of Alice Love by Abby McDonald

Posted By Leah on July 14th, 2010

Alice Love is a stickler when it comes to keeping her life and finances in order so when her bank card is declined, she thinks it’s just a simple clerical error. However when Alice goes to see a mortgage advisor so she can put down a deposit on a flat of her own, Alice learns that not only was her card being declined not a mistake but that all of her bank accounts have been emptied and her debts now run to thousands of pounds.

After having a mini-crisis, Alice enlists the help of a fraud investigator, Nathan, to help her discover just who it is that has stolen her identity and plunged her into so much despair. As Alice - and Nathan - follow the clues to uncovering the thief, Alice finds that instead of being repulsed by such dramas and searching, she’s actually enjoying being different to her usual self. But as Alice’s little white lies start to stack up, is she starting to lose focus on who exactly is the real Alice Love?

Book Title: Walking Back to Happiness by Lucy Dillon

Posted By Chloe on July 14th, 2010

I posted a while ago about Lucy Dillon’s 3rd novel which is due out on 9th December, and the title has finally been revealed. Walking Back to Happiness is definitely a book I’ll be picking up, and sounds like the perfect winter read. Here’s the synopsis in case you missed it before:

“Juliet’s been in hiding. From her family, from her life, but most of all from the fact that Ben’s not around anymore.

Her mother Diane can’t do anything to help. But, when she insists Juliet look after her elderly Labrador, it becomes clear that perhaps the dog, Raffles, could help her daughter where she couldn’t.

Catching on, her neighbours David and Bernie ask Juliet for help with their pets too. But then so does Charlie, the gorgeous (but negligent) spaniel-owner she meets out dogwalking. And her Irish builder Lorcan.

Gradually Juliet realises she’s somehow become the town’s unofficial petsitter. And also that she is now privy to all the lives and secrets of everyone whose animals she’s caring for.

But as her first winter alone approaches, she finally begins to wonder if it’s time to face up to her own secrets? To start rebuilding her own life? And maybe – just maybe – to fall in love again?”

Book News: Sleeping Arrangements by Madeleine Wickham

Posted By Leah on July 14th, 2010

As we’ve posted last week and yesterday, Sophie Kinsella is having her older books re-published, the ones that were released under her real name of Madeleine Wickham. The third to be re-published will be Sleeping Arrangements and will be out on 14th October 2010. I haven’t read any of the books under her real name but I’ll probably be getting copies of all her re-published ones because it’s the perfect excuse to buy them! Here’s the synopsis:

Chloe needs a holiday. She’s sick of making wedding dresses and her partner Philip has trouble at work. Her wealthy friend Gerard has offered the loan of his luxury villa in Spain - perfect. Hugh is not a happy man. His immaculate wife Amanda seems more interested in the granite for the new kitchen than in him, and he works so hard to pay for it all, he barely has time for his family. But his old schoolfriend Gerard has lent them a luxury villa in Spain - perfect. Both families arrive at the villa and get a shock: Gerard has double-booked. An uneasy week of sharing begins, and tensions soon mount in the soaring heat. But there’s also a secret history between the families - and as tempers fray, an old passion begins to resurface..
