Book Review: Like Bees To Honey by Caroline Smailes

Posted on Monday, June 14th, 2010 by Leah

Nina is off to Malta, with her son Christopher in tow, so she can visit her aging parents one last time. Her last visit to Malta didn’t end well, after Nina was disowned for falling pregnant whilst at University in England.

Malta is nothing like Nina expects though because it transpires that Nina is able to see recently deceased spirits. It turns out Malta is some sort of transit lounge for the dead and as well as Nina being able to help the spirits by listening and learning all about them, they can help her just as much. But what exactly is it that Nina is running scared from?

Book Cover: The Secret Shopper Unwrapped by Kate Harrison

Posted on Monday, June 14th, 2010 by Chloe

Kate Harrison’s novel The Secret Shopper Unwrapped only came out last October but Amazon already has the paperback cover up, and its another lovely festive themed cover! I think it’s fab and might even pick up a copy just because it’s so pretty. I loved the book when I read a few months ago and you can read my review here. The paperback is due out 11th November 2010, and if you missed the book before, here’s the synopsis:

“Christmas is coming, and while the bells are ringing, the tills aren’t. But Sandie - the rising star of the retail spying world - is busier than ever, rooting out the best and worst in festive customer care through her company. The former Charlie’s Shopping Angels are helping out, too. Glamorous widow Grazia is going undercover under the duvet at boutique hotels, in between dating a succession of toyboys and trying to remember which lie she’s told about her age. Meanwhile, not-quite-yummy mummy Emily investigates the child-friendliness of the high street with the help of three-year-old Freddie, when she’s not working flat out with her partner to save their fledgling village shop from the un-festive credit crunch. The shoppers are back, but is the happiness they’ve worked so hard for, about to disappear faster than a Louis Vuitton handbag in the Harrod’s sale?”

In more exciting news, the follow-up, The Secret Shopper Affair is coming in March 2011!

Book Cover: Lovers & Liars by Nina Bell

Posted on Monday, June 14th, 2010 by Leah

Nina Bell’s third book, Lovers & Liars, is due out on 19th September and sounds just as fantastic as her other two reads. I actually have Sisters-In-Law on my ever-expanding TBR list and the cover of it does keep catching my eye so I must read it one of these days. I quite like the cover for Lovers & Liars, although I personally prefer the Sisters-In-Law cover. Here’s the synopsis:

A passionate love affair. A happy young family. And a successful 30-year marriage. But which one will be destroyed by the truth? Sophie and her sister, Jess, grow up knowing that a few little lies are necessary: You look great. It was only a joke. He’s just stressed. It doesn’t matter. Everything’s fine.

Everybody does it, don’t they? But what about the big lies – about love, power and money? When Sophie discovers her father’s secret, and Jess falls in love with the charismatic Jake, Sophie has to look at her own life again. Should she keep quiet or tear her family apart with the truth? And if she tells, who will pay the ultimate price?

Thanks to the lovely publishers Harper Perennial we have one copy of Ariel Leve’s book It Could Be Worse, You Could Be Me to give away to a US reader! All you have to do to enter is to email us at [email protected] with the subject title of “It Could Be Worse, You Could Be Me Giveaway”. The giveaway ends on 30th June when a winner will be picked at random! Good luck!

Meet Ariel. Her glass is half empty . . . and leaking. If someone tells her everything will be okay, she asks: How do you know? If there’s a wrong thing to say, she’ll say it. If there’s a downside to see, she’ll see it. She lives in a permanent fear of what’s to come. But at least she’s prepared. In these witty and entertaining tales from the front lines of woe, Ariel highlights the humor in our everyday anxieties and delivers insight that will ring hilariously true if you are inclined to view the world through gray-tinted glasses. So whether you’ve been dumped by the love of your life, lost your job to the guy in the cubicle next to you, said the wrong thing at the party, or weren’t invited to the party at all, Ariel is here to remind you that it could be worse, you could be her.

American Saturday News: An Ideal Wife by Gemma Townley

Posted on Saturday, June 12th, 2010 by Danielle

My recent Chick Flick Tuesday prompted me to share with you this release, An Ideal Wife by Gemma Townley, that’s coming out June 22nd here in the states. I love the cover and the description sounds perfect for anyone who is a fan of Oscar Wilde.

How to ruin a perfectly good marriage: become an Ideal Wife! Married to the man she loves—sweet, sexy Max—Jessica Wild-Wainwright is blissfully happy . . . except for one tiny little problem: She never confessed to an (almost) tryst with Max’s biggest rival right before their wedding. Eaten up with guilt and facing down threats of exposure, Jessica decides to give Max what he clearly still lacks: the Ideal Wife. With the help of her friends, she will become perfect in every way: doting, devoted, domestic—everything Max deserves.

However, the path to perfection is fraught with peril, from culinary chaos to a boudoir disaster that puts Max in the hospital with a broken leg and a sexy nurse (who is certainly Ideal in every way that Jessica is not). When Jessica rallies to run Max’s company—and is met with overt hostility by an obsessive co-worker and by an auditor determined to uncover everyone’s secrets, things become decidedly less than Ideal. Toss in a semiretired Russian stripper turned stay-at-home mom and strange men watching her apartment, and Jessica fears Project Ideal Wife has backfired miserably. Can a less than perfect wife save the day?
