Chick Flick Tuesday: Wimbledon

Posted By Chloe on June 29th, 2010

Chick Flick Tuesday highlights the best chick flicks in the movie world as well as bringing you news on upcoming chick flick releases as well as letting you all know about which chick lit books are being made into chick flick movies!

After a brief hiatus last week as we were rather busy, Chick Flick Tuesday is back this week with Wimbledon! No, not the annual tennis championship that’s currently happening in, er, Wimbledon of course, but the movie which depicts a fictional Wimbledon starring Kirsten Dunst and the brilliant Paul Bettany! There’s something wonderfully British about this movie, even if you aren’t a tennis fan you can enjoy it because it’s more than just a tennis film. There’s a great little love story going on, along with some great comedy, and Dunst and Bettany make a really great team on-screen. I was on the edge of my seat come the end even though I knew it was just a film, but it was so well done you felt like it was real tennis! It’s a perfect film for this hot weather to sit and have a lovely big bowl of strawberries while you watch, and enjoy a fab movie!

“Peter Colt (Paul Bettany) is a 31-year-old Englishman who was once ranked 11th in the world, but has now dropped to a pathetic 119th. Realising that his days are numbered, Peter intends to retire from the game after playing in one final Wimbledon. But when he accidentally walks into the hotel room of rising American star Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst), sparks begin to fly and Peter begins to find his touch on the court once again. Unfortunately for Peter, Lizzie’s overbearing father, Dennis (Sam Neill), is well aware that Lizzie’s game suffers when she is distracted by love, and he bans the two from seeing each other. This doesn’t bode well for Peter, who is about to play in the final against cocky American superstar Jake Hammond (Austin Nichols). Not to mention the fact that Peter has the hopes of an entire nation riding on his shoulders.”

Author Interview: Tilly Bagshawe

Posted By Chloe on June 29th, 2010

We have a great exclusive for you today… an interview with the lovely Tilly Bagshawe! I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to put some questions to Tilly after reading her latest book Scandalous which I reviewed yesterday. I’ve been a big fan of Tilly’s books for a few years now, so it was a really exciting chance for me to get to ask her some questions I had been thinking about for a while, so here it is! My huge thanks go to Tilly for taking the time to answer my questions. Enjoy!

Q1. Can you tell us about your latest book, Scandalous?

Scandalous is a tale of love, passion, betrayal and ultimate revenge. It begins in Cambridge, and the action sweeps from there to new York, Los Angeles and Tokyo as our heroine plots the downfall of the man who has tried to destroy her.

Q2. There’s quite a bit of scandal(!) happening at Cambridge University in the beginning of this book, did you know of anything like this going on while you were there or is it complete fiction?!

The scandal itself is complete fiction…but there is plenty of backstabbing, rivalry and of course sex going on in all universities, and Cambridge was no exception. I loved Cambridge though, so I wouldn’t want to slander it too badly!

‘Will you marry me?’ I think of you, then. I think of you every day. But usually in the quietest part of the morning, or the darkest part of the night. Not when my boyfriend of two years has just proposed. I look up at Richard with his hopeful eyes. ‘Lily?’ he prompts. It’s been ten years, but it feels like only yesterday that you left. How can I say yes to Richard with all my heart when most of it has always belonged to you? I take a deep breath and will myself to speak…Ten years ago when Lily was just sixteen, she fell in love with someone she really shouldn’t have fallen in love with. Now, living in Sydney and engaged to another man, she can’t forget the one that got away. Then her past comes back to haunt her, and she has to make a decision that will break her heart - and the heart of at least one of the men who love her.
