She'll Take It - Mary Carter“She’ll Take It” tells us the story of Melanie Zeitgar, a woman living in New York City with dreams of becoming a world famous actress. But Melanie has a downfall…she has a penchant for stealing things. Not enormously expensive items you understand, just the odd sweater from Barneys or the odd pillow from the Homewares shop. Author Interview: Anna Davis

Posted on Saturday, December 12th, 2009 by Chloe

Anna DavisAnna Davis caught my eye recently when I read her latest book The Jewel Box, and loved it. It’s set in the 1920′s and follows copywriter/journalist Grace Rutherford as she struggles with her feelings for two men, and also to fight the expectations on women in the 20′s too. I found it a fascinating read, and was really impressed with the amount of research that must have gone into it. Anna was kind enough to grant us an Author Interview, so here it is!

    1. Tell us about your latest book.

Set in London in 1927, The Jewel Box is the story of Grace Rutherford, an advertising copywriter by day, a flapper extraordinaire and newspaper gossip columnist by night under the pen name Diamond Sharp. At a party, Grace meets and falls for Dexter O’Connell, a charismatic American writer. Later that same night she finds herself attracted to the dashing John Cramer. Drawn to both men, Grace discovers they are bitter enemies, and is quickly drawn into a web of secrets and lies. Which man, if either, can she trust?

The Jewel Box is about love and lies. It’s about falling in love with two people at once. And it’s also about our relationships with our own past - the elements of our past we’re not proud of and how they come back to haunt us.

Book Review: Beautiful People by Wendy Holden

Posted on Friday, December 11th, 2009 by Leah

wendy holden beautiful peopleBelle Murphy was supposed to be Hollywood’s hottest young star, but it all fell apart when her latest movie flopped spectacularly. To try and get herself back into the media’s good books, Belle heads off to London, via an African adoption agency, to star in Shakespeare. Can she claw her way back to the top of the Hollywood pile again?

Darcy Prince is a beautiful English rose, who has her heart set on being a “proper” actress, when the call comes from Hollywood - LA’s hottest director wants her in his new movie. A movie that will rival Star Wars. It’s everything an actress should ever want, so why is Darcy so reluctant to go?

Via a lot of mix-ups, the two girls eventually lock horns over men, dieting and just which one of them is the bigger star. Throw in a nanny, a chef, and a boy so beautiful he could be a model, and you have a fiery encounter just waiting to happen.

Book Cover: Envy by Coleen Nolan

Posted on Friday, December 11th, 2009 by Leah

coleen nolan envyColeen Nolan is the latest celebrity to turn her hand to writing fiction although I truly have no idea if this will be ghost-written (more over - do I really care?). It will be titled Envy (it was going to be Revenge, but Sharon Osbourne’s book of the same name comes out a few months before) and is due for release on 4th June 2010 . The book cover looks alarmingly similar to Sharon Osbourne’s cover, don’t you think? Here’s the synopsis, which sounds, if I’m honest, a lot like most celebrity plots:

Television favourite Karen King loves three things: her job as presenter on a late night talk show, her gorgeous husband Jason, and her Spanx pants, guaranteed to give the plumpest woman a waistline. She’s happy, but fate is about to turn her ordered world upside down.

Surprise number one is finding Jason in bed with a young blonde. Karen’s barely over the shock when she’s hotly tipped to take over primetime’s highest-rating chat show. She wants the job - but so do some of the biggest divas in showbiz, not least the icy Julia Hill who will do absolutely anything to sabotage Karen. As the biggest catfight in town kicks off can Karen sort out her life and win television’s greatest prize?

Book News: Famous Last Words by Annie Sanders

Posted on Friday, December 11th, 2009 by Chloe

The title of Annie Sanders’ next novel has finally been released, and it’s to be called Famous Last Words. It’s due out 19th August 2010 so there’s a long wait, but as Annie Sanders’ novels are always so good, it’ll be worth the wait! Here’s the synopsis:

“Alice spends her days beavering away at her sewing machine, making divine, flamboyant clothes that express all the passion and flair that she cannot, and at night she sits alone with her latest creations, fretting over her struggling business. Her life is one of unfulfilled ambitions and missed opportunities. Then one evening Alice meets the beautiful, fey and enigmatic Gabriel, who has an uncanny knack for foretelling fortunes, and manages to convince even the cynical Alice. So when Gabe tells her that her future isn’t looking too rosy - in fact she doesn’t have one - Alice embarks on a spree of ‘what the hell and why not’. She faces her demons, confronts those that have annoyed her, and takes risks for the first time in her life, convinced that the accident he predicts will befall her. When the day of her prophesied demise comes - and goes - Alice storms round to challenge Gabe, who sheepishly admits he must have got it wrong this time. The appalled and angry Alice has a hell of a mess to put right now, and demands that Gabe help her do some damage control. So begins an edge-of-the-seat, race-against-time to repair Alice’s reckless actions. But halfway through Alice asks herself if everything is worth mending? Has she inadvertently improved her life just as she thought it was about to end? And why is Gabe so reluctant to help her untangle her biggest gaffe of all?”

Book Cover: Getting Over Mr. Right by Chrissie Manby

Posted on Thursday, December 10th, 2009 by Leah

chrissie manby getting over mr rightWhen the paperback of Chris Manby’s last novel, Crazy In Love, came out I noticed she’d changed her name to Chrissie Manby. The reason? Chrissie was fed up of being mistaken for a man! Her 14th book Getting Over Mr. Right is released on the 4th February 2010. I love the cover and love the synopsis even more and can’t wait to read it:

After more than two years together, Ashleigh is just waiting for Michael to pop the question. She’s sure she’s met her Mr Right. But Michael has other things on his mind - namely, an interior designer from Brazil with big hair and an even bigger chest. Out of the blue, Ashleigh finds she’s dumped. Via Facebook.

Ashleigh is not the sort of girl to take this news lying down. Instead, she embarks on a calamitous campaign to win Michael back. She’s staking everything she’s got. She may have lost her man, but has she also lost the plot?
