Book News: Pop Tart by Kira Coplin & Julianne Kaye

Posted on Saturday, May 16th, 2009 by Leah

poptartKira Coplin & Julianne Kaye’s debut novel, Pop Tart, is released on May 28th and the synopsis reads:

She was America’s sweetheart. Until the love affair ended with a bang!

Young make-up artist Jackie Reilly has always dreamed of making it big in TinselTown, concealing the flaws of the rich and famous. Stuck in a rut with a crazy boss, she thinks her big break will never come - until she meets a girl who guarantees her life will never be the same again!

16-year-old Brooke Parker is bubbly, vivacious, charming - and about to become the world’s most famous teenager. A pop singer on the verge of superstardom, Brooke instantly takes a shine to Jackie and draws her into a world of white-stretch limos, screaming fans and invitations to VIP events. But as Jackie quickly finds out, fame has its dark side. Forced to juggle the various egos of Brooke’s entourage - from bitchy stylists to over-eager publicists and a manager that serves his own interests before all else - all preserving the golden girl image of brand Brooke.

Caught in the tight grip of the P.R machine, Brooke starts to rebel, taking Jackie along for the ride. At first her bad girl antics are a blast, earning her even more column inches, but when her heavy partying brings Brooke’s demons to the surface she begins to fall apart and soon, she is taking Jackie down with her. When Jackie is forced to learn the rules of showbusiness the hard way, her friendship with Brooke is put to the ultimate test - will she be yet another casualty of Brooke’s increasing quest for fame? Or can she save herself - and Brooke?

It sounds a really good read, and I’ll be looking out for it. I love the cover, too.

    Author Interview: Karen Quinn

Posted on Friday, May 15th, 2009 by Leah

karenquinnWhile Paige Toon was one of the first authors I wanted to ask to do an Author Interview, the first author I actually got an interview from was Karen Quinn.

If you aren’t aware of who Karen Quinn is, she is the author of The Ivy Chronicles, Wife in the Fast Lane, Holly Would Dream and her newest novel, which is released in July, The Sister Diaries.

    1. Describe your latest novel (The Sister Diaries) in a sentence.

The close relationship between three sisters is fractured when their mother leaves her entire estate - a multi-million dollar townhouse and a priceless painting - to the middle (and least deserving) of them. Whew! That was hard to sum up in one sentence.

Book News: The Mistress by Martine McCutcheon

Posted on Friday, May 15th, 2009 by Chloe

British actress and singer Martine McCutcheon isn’t content with her already successful career - she’s now branching out into writing books as well! Her debut novel The Mistress has been picked up by PanMacmillan Books and is set for release on 6th November of this year. Here’s the synopsis taken from Amazon:

“Mandy is turning 30 and has a lot of love to give, but that special person has so far eluded her. Then, at her birthday party with close friends at the Wolseley, Cupid strikes from across a crowded room. It’s love at first sight, but Jake, the man she’s fallen for, is happily married. Mandy is determined to stick to her principles and not enter into such dangerous territory, but her resistance is to prove futile. But can she make it as a mistress? Can it work for someone to love two people? A romance with a twist, “The Mistress”, has an unusual, modern take on what women want.”

It’s part of a trilogy about strong women, and the title of the second book has already been released; The Actress. It’ll be interesting to see what Martine’s writing style is like, but I am sure it will be as successful as the other areas of her career!

Author of the Week: Alexandra Potter

Posted on Thursday, May 14th, 2009 by Leah

alexandrapotterThis week’s Author of the Week is Alexandra Potter. She is the author of 7 novels and was born in Bradford, Yorkshire. She has lived in Los Angeles (which inspired her second novel) and Australia where she worked on Vogue and Cleo (and did rather too much sunbathing). She has also worked as a features writer and sub-editor for women’s glossies in the UK including Elle, More!, OK! and Vogue. She now writes full-time and lives in Notting Hill, London. (Thanks to fantasticfiction for the biography)

Her novels are: What’s New Pussycat?, Going La La, Calling Romeo, Do You Come Here Often?, Be Careful What You Wish For, Me & Mr Darcy and Who’s That Girl? - which I’m currently reading and will review in the near future!

The first Alexandra Potter novel I read was Going La La follwed by Be Careful What You Wish For, Me & Mr Darcy and as I’ve said, the one I’m reading now, Who’s That Girl? I’ve enjoyed all the ones I’ve read so far and when I get the chance I’ll re-read and review Going La La and Be Careful What You Wish For.

Who’s That Girl? was released in January this year and, unfortunately, there’s no news yet of an eight book but I’m hopeful there will be one, I love Alexandra’s style of writing. I also love her latter 3 book covers and think it’s a shame her earlier books haven’t been re-covered and re-printed.

Book News: Celebrity Bride by Alison Kervin

Posted on Thursday, May 14th, 2009 by Chloe

Alison Kervin, author of the successful novels A Wag’s Diary and A WAG Abroad is back this summer with her latest book, Celebrity Bride. This book focuses on the wedding of a Hollywood star to a nobody, and promises to be a fantastic summer read. Here’s the synopsis:

“It’s the celebrity wedding of the season…The news that Hollywood bad boy Rufus George is finally settling down has caused a media storm. Especially since his bride is a civilian - a nobody. Kelly Monsoon is a pretty, curvy theater administrator. She never expected to meet a mega-star like Rufus let alone have him fall in love with her. And when Rufus asks Kelly to come and live with him, in his magnificent mansion, she feels like it’s a fairytale come true. Only this Prince Charming comes with a 12-person entourage, a bevy of beautiful ex-girlfriends and the world’s press camped on his doorstep.

But when Rufus proposes Kelly accepts and the media interest in this new couple hits the roof. However, the small, intimate wedding Kelly always dreamed of is taking on Hollywood epic proportions…Rufus’s manager is trying to book Buckingham Palace for the wedding reception and all Kelly’s mum wants to know is where to buy a nice hat. It’s a clash of cultures: British versus American, celebrity versus civilian - with poor Kelly stuck in the middle, not knowing where she belongs. Will this celebrity bride ever make it up the aisle? ”

The book is due out on 4th June so not too long to wait if it sounds like your thing! It sounds like a great one for the beach if you’re off on your hols, and sure to be another hit for Alison Kervin.
