Lucy Dillon is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors, so I was excited to see her third novel is already listen on Amazon. It doesn’t have a title yet or cover yet, but as soon as it does we’ll post it. It’s not out until December 2nd of this year, so we have a bit of a wait, but there is a synopsis to whet your appetite, and it sounds great! Here it is:

“Juliet had just moved into her dream home when things started going wrong. First with then house itself, then – putting everything else into perspective – her husband Evan’s diagnosis. And now he’s gone, leaving Juliet with just a big cold house and only a rescued terrier for company.

In a bid to keep her mind off her loss, she agrees to dogsit for her mother. Then for her best friend. And then for her neighbour. And before she knows it, she’s the town’s unofficial petsitter, and is privy to the secrets and lives of everyone whose homes she’s going into.

But, as her first Christmas alone approaches, will she be ready to face up to her own secrets? And start rebuilding her own life? And maybe – just maybe – to start to fall in love again…”

Author Lucy Dillon first came to my attention when I read her brilliant debut novel The Ballroom Class and loved it. Since then, I’ve been waiting for a new release from her, and it’s finally (almost!) here. Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts is due out on 26th November, and looks like a fabulous read… it even made it onto our Winters Warmers list! Lucy was kind enough to grant us an interview, so have a read to get an insight into Lucy and her life!

1. Tell us about your latest book.

My latest book, Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts, is set in Longhampton’s dilapidated dog rescue, and is the story of broken-hearted Rachel’s mission to pair up her late aunt’s collection of waifs and strays with new owners. Rachel starts off her rehoming drive just to get the rescue emptied, so she can sell Dot’s house and move on, but by the end of the novel she’s discovered that there was much more mystery in Dot’s life than her family ever realised, and that her real future - and a real love - might lie in a very unexpected place. You don’t have to like dogs to enjoy the story - there’s a big cast of friends juggling romances, dramas and laughs - but it’s the sweet, silent unconditional love between Rachel and her aunt’s faithful collie, Gem, that made me cry (and smile!) most when I was writing it.

** Read our exclusive interview with Lucy Dillon here **

lucy dillon lost dogs and lonely heartsRachel is a bit horrified when she finds out that her Aunt Dot has died and left her entire estate to her. Dot’s legacy is a boarding kennels in the middle of nowhere, a huge house and a lot of debts to go with it, and Rachel doesn’t much fancy moving and becoming at one with the dogs and their owners. However, when she arrives, she finds the people are nice folk with hearts of gold, and that the dogs quickly grow on you as well. Rachel soon begins to make friends with George, the dishy local vet; Zoe, a single mum of 2 young boys struggling to cope with them and new puppy Toffee; Natalie and Johhny, a couple who subsitute a baby for a dog for the time-being whilst they hide a painful secret, and of course Megan who helped Dot run the whole show. Will Rachel be able to settle down and mend her lonely heart once and for all?

The cover for Lucy Dillon’s second novel Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts has finally been released, so here it is! I think it’s absolutely gorgeous, and looks like a perfect winter read to snuggle up with under the duvet! It’s not released until 26th November so we’ve got a bit of a wait, but as the old saying goes “Good things come to those who wait”! Here’s the synopsis in case you’ve missed it before:

“When the abandoned strays from a local dogs’ home are matched with brand new owners, it turns out it might not just be the dogs who need rescuing.

Rachel’s aunt has left her a house, a Border Collie and, despite knowing nothing about dogs, a crowded kennels. But since her life has collapsed she’s not sure she can deal with any more lost souls.

Zoe’s ex-husband has given their children a puppy. The kids are in love, but she’s the one stuck training Toffee the impossible Labrador. She’s nearly at the end of her tether – until Toffee leads her to a handsome doctor…

Meanwhile Natalie and Johnny’s marriage hasn’t been easy since they started trying for a baby. But is a fridge-raiding, sofa-stealing Basset hound like Bertie really the child substitute they’re looking for?

As the new owners’ paths cross on the town’s dog-walking circuits, their lives become interwoven. And they – and their dogs – learn some important lessons about loyalty, companionship and unconditional love . . .”

I loved Lucy’s debut The Ballroom Class so hopefully this one will be just as good, or even better! Look out for it from 26th November through Hodder publishers.

Lucy Dillon’s debut novel The Ballroom Class was an exquisite read, so I was thrilled to see that her new book, Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts, is now on Amazon with a release date of November 25th 2009.
