Chick Lit Reviews 'Winter Warmers'!
With the cold autumnal evenings drawing in, there’s nothing nicer for me than cosying up with a good book in the warm on a dark evening! There are some ‘golden oldies’ that I like to go back to as old favourites for my Winter Warmers but there are some new books coming out soon that I think will also be great books to enjoy for the cold months. Here’s our top 10 choices for Winter Warmers…why don’t you tell us yours?
Kate Harrison’s The Secret Shopper Unwrapped is a fabulous Christmas read set in the world of retail and secret shopping. Join Emily, Grazia and Sandie on a festive adventure and a few personal twists and turns along the way too. This book has it all - fun, laughs, love and a few tears too, and I definitely recommend it as a great Winter Warmer!

Heaven Can Wait is the debut novel from author Cally Taylor, and a magnificent debut it is too. It takes a look at one woman’s journey to becoming a ghost so she can stay with her fiancé Dan forever, but things aren’t always straight forward. The ghost story elements sets this book apart from other chick lit on the shelves and is a fantastic debut that is sure to be a massive hit with anyone who reads it, I can’t recommend it enough! A delightful and charming read.

Cecelia Ahern’s books always have that little bit of magic to make them extra special, and her newest release The Book of Tomorrow looks to be no different! Tamara loses everything when her father dies, and when she visits the library afterwards, her eye is drawn to a large book locked with a padlock. When she opens it, Tamara is shocked and mesmerised by the magic inside. It promises to be a wonderful heartfelt read with a dose of that Ahern magic and comes highly recommended from us!

The Xmas Factor by Annie Sanders is a great one to read to get you in the mood for the upcoming festive season! It tells the tale of magaine editor Carol who has to pull off one amazing Christmas issue and Beth who is looking forward to her first Christmas with new husband Jacob. The trials and tribulations of family life at Christmas will be familiar to us all, and it’s an easy read that I loved.

Matt Dunn always delivers with a funny read with his “man-lit” and his latest The Good Bride Guide is just as good as his older books! This book follows unlucky-in-love Ben and his quest to find himself a bride. He asks his parents to help him find the perfect girl but none of them are perfect for him. Will he ever meet the girl of his dreams? High on laughs and love, this is a great book to curl up with on the sofa!

The cover of Patricia Scanlan’s latest book Coming Home screams Christmas, and truly is a heart-warming read of what Christmas should be about - friends, family and love. Alison Dunwoody lives and works in New York, but when she loses her job thanks to the recession, she decides to head home for Christmas and spend it with her family, especially her 3 young nieces. It’s a lovely story that pictures Christmas in Ireland perfectly, and is just the right length to devour on an autumn evening.

Lucy Dillon’s next book Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts has a gorgeous wintery cover, and the plot sounds fantastic as well! It tells the story of a town’s dog owners and how they all meet and become friends, and the lessons that the dogs manage to teach the owners as well! We’re reading it at the moment so our review will be available as soon as we’re done, but I can also recommend Lucy’s debut novel The Ballroom Class which was brilliant too!

Julia Williams’ next release is a definite winter book - after all it’s called Last Christmas! I read and loved Julia’s debut book called Pastures New which was another lovely winter read, and Leah enjoyed Strictly Love but I particularly love the sound of this one. It’s got a gorgeously festive cover, and the story which is about a small town called Hope Christmas and its residents, and how they all cope with Christmas and the hype. It’s perfect for a winter read!

The next on our list isn’t necessarily a winter read, but is such a good book we had to add it to the list! Isabel Wolff’s latest offering A Vintage Affair is a truly wonderful read that will you have you absorbed after just a few pages. It’s about Phoebe Swift, the owner of a vintage clothes shop and her journey in her shop, but also her friendship with elderly Mrs Bell and the mysterious blue coat that Phoebe discovers at her house. Both Leah and I absolutely loved it and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it as a fantastic Winter Warmer.

The last book on our Winter Warmers list is another pre-release. It’s Fairytale of New York by Miranda Dickinson who was found through HarperCollins Unpublished Authors site, and looks like a wonderful book. It’s about the journey of Rosie Duncan and her move to the Big Apple, and whether or not it will help to run away from her past or if it’s going to come back to haunt her. I adore the gorgeous pink and purple cover which will have you picking it up off the shelves but the story sounds delightful too and I can’t wait to read it!
