Book News: Lucky Every Day by Bapsy Jain

Posted on Monday, September 21st, 2009 by Chloe

Lucky Every Day - Bapsy JainBapsy Jain has her debut novel out next year, and I think it sounds fascinating. Lucky Every Day is out on 7th January 2010 through Penguin, and sounds like the sort of thing I’d like to read. Here’s the synopsis:

“Lately, Lucky’s life has seen nothing but trouble. Her marriage to the wealthy and charming Vikram ended badly, and along with it, her career as a successful entrepreneur. It’s time for her to start over and Lucky is more than ready to move on. So Lucky goes to New York where her quest to get her life back on track begins with promise. A voluntary assignment as yoga instructor brings her some new and unusual friends, and a chance encounter with her old friend, Amay, makes her realize that a second chance at love might just be possible. And when she finds a job with an old associate, she can’t help but think that leaving Bombay was the best decision she ever made. But a series of dramas leaves Lucky feeling betrayed and looking for answers yet again. Her new life may not be everything she thought it was but she soon learns that only she has the power to change her destiny.”

Book News: Foursome by Jane Fallon

Posted on Saturday, September 19th, 2009 by Chloe

Foursome by Jane FallonYou have no idea how long I have been waiting for news of this book! The brilliant Jane Fallon is back next year with her new novel called Foursome! It’s been over a year now since we had Jane’s last book, Got You Back, which I loved, so I cannot wait to read this! The cover looks great and very different from Jane’s first 2 books, and here’s the fab synopsis:

“Rebecca, Daniel, Alex and Isabel have been best friends since university. Rebecca married Daniel, Alex married Isabel and, for 20 years, they have been inseperable. But all that is about to change… When Alex walks out on Isabel Rebecca thinks things can’t get any worse. But then she finds out the reason why and she’s left harbouring a secret she’d rather forget… And not only that. Alex’s new girlfriend just happens to be Rebecca’s skinny, neurotic, self-obsessed colleague, Lorna, her arch nemesis at work and now a regular feature in her social life too. They say you should keep your friends close and enemies closer but sometimes your best friends can become your worst enemies…”

The book isn’t out until 4th March 2010 so I’ve got a long wait, but I’m really happy news of Jane’s 3rd book is here! Are you looking forward to this too?

Book News: All The Things We Didn't Say by Sara Shepard

Posted on Friday, September 18th, 2009 by Leah

sara shepard all the thing we didn't sayWhat I think is Sara Shepard’s (author of the Pretty Little Liars series) first adult novel, All The Things We Didn’t Say, is due out on the 29th October and sounds like an oustanding read:

A teenage party, emotions running high, followed by a horrific car crash. A girl is left dead and a boy is forced to leave his home town, with a secret that he will carry with him forever! Years later, when Summer’s mother disappears one summer, she is left with her father who is going slowly crazy.

Obsessed with an accident from years ago, he slowly descends into mental illness. And as he becomes more disorientated, he reveals small fragments of a secret that has been hidden since his youth, a secret that changes everything. Summer supports her father as much as she can but eventually realises that she has to escape. She finds refuge with her great-aunt, Stella.

Feisty, fun-loving, and dying of cancer, Stella holds parts of the family secret. Slowly, things fall into place for Summer - or at least so she thinks! This is a story of the importance of family, of the damage a lie can do, and of how nothing is ever what it seems.

Book Review: The Popularity Rules by Abby McDonald

Posted on Friday, September 18th, 2009 by Chloe

abby mcdonald the popularity rulesKat Elliot isn’t exactly what you’d call popular. She works for a music magazine doing what she loves, and is pretty happy. But all that is set to change when she bumps into her ex-best friend from school, Lauren.

The pair’s friendship ended when Lauren returned from summer camp a changed girl, determined to be beautigul and popular, leaving Kat sad in her wake. Years have passed but Kat still feels the rejection. When Lauren tells Kat she wants to teach her “The Popularity Rules”, Kat is unsure and nervous.

But the glitz of parties and the chance to win her dream job comes calling, Kat just can’t turn it down. But what are the Popularity Rules? And is Kat sure that popularity is exactly what she wants?

Author of the Week: Lisa Jewell

Posted on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 by Leah

lisaThis week’s author of the week is Lisa Jewell. If you aren’t familiar with Lisa’s story she only started writing books after making a bet with a friend. The result was the hugely successful Ralph’s Party. Read more about it here at Lisa’s website.

Lisa Jewell was born on 19th July 1968 in Middlesex Hospital in London’s West End. Her father Anthony is a Textile Agent and her mother Kay is a secretary. She has two younger sisters, Sacha and Tanya. She was brought up in a strange part of North London called Totteridge, known to some as the Beverly Hills of London, where her neighbours included such luminaries as Micky Most, Des O’Connor and Patti Boulay. Lisa now lives in Swiss Cottage with her husband and daughter.

Lisa is the author of seven novels: Ralph’s Party, Thirty-Nothing, One-Hit Wonder, A Friend of the Family, Vince & Joy, 31 Dream Street and The Truth About Melody Browne. I’ve read all of Lisa’s books bar A Friend of the Family and Vince & Joy and I’ve reviewed two of those on the site: One-Hit Wonder and The Truth About Melody Browne. My favourite of Lisa’s books is The Truth About Melody Browne followed closely by 31 Dream Street.

For all of Lisa’s fans wondering what’s next, Lisa is actually working on the sequel to her first novel Ralph’s Party. Lisa finished the first draft in May and that’s the last update. I would have assumed it may have been out in 2010 but that doesn’t seem likely. Whenever it is released though, it’ll be worth it. I for one can’t wait for it.

Book News: The Message by Julie Highmore

Posted on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 by Chloe

The Message - Julie HighmoreAuthor Julie Highmore is back this December with her next book, The Message. The book is released through Headline Review on 10th December, and sounds like a great read:

“Bookseller Jen has no idea that her neat life is about to unravel. With one misplaced voicemail from her husband, she discovers that her marriage is a sham. Numb with shock, she’s hiding from the future when she’s stunned by a face from the past. Kit was Jen’s first love, the one she hoped would never leave. On their airbase in Germany, he was out of her league — a senior officer’s son — but even Kit’s glamorous and disapproving mother couldn’t keep them apart. What began as a glorious summer, though, could not last for ever. Now, years later, Jen and Kit meet again, both troubled, and forced to confront what happened. Together, can they make sense of it all?”
