But en route, Maeve’s car breaks down and she is stranded in Unknown, Arizona. It is here, alone and in the middle of nowhere, that Maeve finally faces up to the reality of her past. What Maeve has denied acknowledging, even to herself, is that she isn’t running from bad luck, but from something much more complicated – something that made her feel as though the world would never turn again, and her heart would always remain closed.

Date Change for The Wish List by Martina Reilly

Posted By Leah on July 20th, 2009

Martina Reilly’s new book The Wish List was supposed to be released on October 1st but has been bumped up to a July 30th release which is great for all of Martina’s fans! I can’t wait to try and get my hands on it as it sounds brilliant:

Like any married couple, Allie and Tony have had their fair share of heartache. But when Tony’s actions force Allie and her young sons out of their home, things take a desperate turn for the worse. Without her husband around, Allie must cope with two increasingly inquisitive children – as well as the reappearance of her estranged father.

So when her eldest son Mark befriends a mysterious next-door neighbour, Jeremy, Allie’s glad he’s found a distraction. The only trouble is that Mark believes Jeremy is Santa Claus – and that he can put the family back together. While Jeremy becomes increasingly mortified at the mix-up, a little magic never did anyone any harm – did it?

Author of the Week: Martina Reilly

Posted By Leah on June 11th, 2009

Martina Reilly, also known as Tina Reilly, is one of my favourite authors. I’ve read Something Borrowed, Wish Upon A Star and All I Want Is You and loved all three. Once I get the chance to re-read them, I’ll review them. Here’s a bit about Martina:

Martina wrote her first few novels under the name Tina Reilly before her publishers suggested she should use Martina Reilly. Apparently, it’s to make her books sound more serious. I personally think her new book covers do that perfectly well! Martina is married with children and is also a qualified drama teacher. She is the author of 10 novels.

Her novels are: Flipside, The Onion Girl, Is This Love?, Something Borrowed, Wedded Blitz, Wish Upon A Star, All I Want Is You, The Summer of Secrets, Second Chance and her 10th, out in October, The Wish List. You can read a review of Second Chances here, reviewed by Chloe.

Martina is a brilliant writer and I highly recommend you read Something Borrowed or All I Want Is You or Second Chance. If you’re new to Martina, those are the ones I’d recommend you start with but all her books would be worth the read. Martina takes serious topics and inserts humour into them to make them more light-hearted and they are very easy reads.
