Book Review: Getting Over Mr Right by Chrissie Manby

Posted on June 23rd, 2010 by Leah

Ashleigh Prince thinks she’s found her Mr Right in Michael so when he dumps her, it comes completely out of left field. Particularly since he dumps her via Facebook. Ashleigh takes the break up incredibly hard and instead of just getting over her heartbreak gracefully and leaving him alone, she instead turns into Michael’s worst nightmare.

When begging and pleading fails to win Michael back, Ashleigh decides, after a lot of Googling, that a grand gesture is in order. As Ashleigh’s bid to win Michael back builds more and more, even involving a psychic cat, is Ashleigh in danger of not only being single but also losing both her sanity and dignity, too?

Book Cover: Inheritance by Tara Palmer-Tomkinson

Posted on June 23rd, 2010 by Leah

I made a post a while back featuring the synopsis for Tara Palmer-Tomkinson’s debut fiction book Inheritance which is due out on October 1st 2010. We now have the cover which I have to admit, is quite nice. I probably won’t read the book, though, because I’m not a fan of celebrity reads! Here’s the synopsis:

Notorious party-loving ‘It Girl’ Lyric Charlton has it all – the lineage, the looks and the lifestyle. A moneyed upbringing at the heart of one of the upper class’s most well-connected families, a finishing school education and an address book bursting with the world’s most powerful and high-profile people has crowned her the glamorous poster girl for the aristocratic glitterati. But when her doomed relationship with suave boy-about-town Ralph Conway means she takes the good times too far, she is packed off to rehab by her worried parents, and the public shame and private humiliation that follow means Lyric’s only option seems to be to retreat into sober obscurity. But what no one can predict is the dramatic chain of events her exile sets in motion. For Lyric’s treatment is the start of much more than a life as an ex-addict. It’s the catalyst that exposes a complex web of deceit and betrayal – and leads Lyric on an increasingly dangerous quest to find the final missing piece of the jigsaw of her life…

    Author Interview: Chrissie Manby

Posted on June 22nd, 2010 by Leah

A few months ago I received Chrissie Manby’s new book Getting Over Mr Right and I couldn’t wait to read it as I’m a huge fan of her work. I read it a month or so ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, you can see my review tomorrow in fact. I asked if we could interview Chrissie and here it is for you all. Enjoy!

    1. Tell us about your latest release Getting Over Mr Right?

GOMR is my fourteenth novel. It’s about Ashleigh Prince, a thirty-something Londoner who reacts very badly to being dumped. Very badly indeed. If you’ve ever been embarrassed by the way you obsessed over an ex, you’ll feel much better after reading this book.

    2. Can you tell us about what you’re currently working on?

I’m working on a novel called ‘What I did on my holidays’ which is about a trip to Majorca that goes badly wrong. I am also working on a horror movie. Comedy. Horror. I enjoy mixing things up.

Book Cover: The Birthday Party by Veronica Henry

Posted on June 22nd, 2010 by Leah

Veronica Henry’s next book, which was originally called Starstruck, has had a name change before it’s release on 21st October 2010 and will instead be called The Birthday Party. The cover has also finally been released and it’s quite different to Veronica’s previous books. I can’t quite decide if I like it. I mean the purple is nice but I don’t know, I suppose it is lovely. Here’s the synopsis:

Delilah Rafferty has lived out her tempestuous marriage to hell-raiser Raf in the full glare of the media spotlight. Now, from the luxurious comfort of her beautiful kitchen, Delilah is planning her birthday party, a night that will see a star-studded gathering of friends and family celebrate in traditional Rafferty style. But she has more on her mind than just invitations… Raf has been offered a part in a movie he can’t refuse. But will that mean he’ll succumb to the temptations he’s struggled so hard to resist for the last ten years - beautiful women and too much wine? And Delilah’s three daughters, Coco, Violet and Tyger, are building careers of their own, only too aware that the press are waiting for them to slip up. For although the Rafferty girls might look like angels, they are only human. As with all families, there are secrets and rivalries bubbling away, and on one gloriously starry night, it’s all going to come spilling out This is your invitation to a birthday party of the year…

Book News: Ambition by Immodesty Blaize

Posted on June 21st, 2010 by Leah

Immodesty Blaize’s second book - following Tease - appears to be about Tiger Starr’s daughter, and will be called Ambition. It’s due for release on 14th October 2010 and is bound to appeal to fans of the Bagshawe sisters. Here’s the synopsis:

Money. Fame. Love. Who says you can’t have it all? Being the daughter of a showbiz icon is a mixed blessing for Sienna Starr. Though she dreams of following in her famous mother’s footsteps, she wants to get to the top on her own merits. Securing a role as a chorus girl in the Follies seems a step towards achieving her ambitions. But life isn’t all glamour and glitz and, off the Strip, Las Vegas can be a dark and sinister place. Sienna then makes the mistake of ruffling the feathers of the show’s star, Brandy Alexander. A legend in her own dressing room, not least for her astringent charms, Brandy doesn’t take kindly to younger, prettier girls trying to outshine her. Yet Brandy’s has more than one skeleton in the closet and dark secrets she’d do anything to hide…

Book News: Twelve Days of Christmas by Trisha Ashley

Posted on June 21st, 2010 by Leah

Trisha Ashley’s latest book, Twelve Days of Christmas, is due out on October 28th - just in time for the start of the Christmas season, I’m sure you will agree! It sounds like a fab read and one I’ll certainly be picking up, plus the cover is so lovely which always helps. It’ll be the second book out this year to have the title The Twelve Days of Christmas (although it was originally called Twelfth Night, but Shakespeare ruled that out!). The other book with the same title is Amy Silver’s new one which we posted about last week! Here’s the synopsis for Trisha’s Twelve Days of Christmas!

Christmas has always been a sad time for young widow Holly Brown, so when she’s asked to look after a remote house on the Lancashire moors, the opportunity to hide herself away is irresistible – the perfect excuse to forget about the festivities. Sculptor, Jude Martland, is determined that this year there will be no Christmas after his brother runs off with his fiancée and he is keen to avoid the family home. However, he will have to return by Twelfth Night, when the hamlet of Little Mumming hold their historic festivities and all of his family are required to attend. Meanwhile, Holly is finding that if she wants to avoid Christmas, she has come to the wrong place. When Jude unexpectedly returns on Christmas Eve he is far from delighted to discover that Holly seems to be holding the very family party he had hoped to avoid. Suddenly, the blizzards come out of nowhere and the whole village is snowed in. With no escape, Holly and Jude get much more than they bargained for – it looks like the twelve days of Christmas are going to be very interesting indeed!
