Book Cover: The Only Way Is Up by Carole Matthews

Posted on Monday, May 31st, 2010 by Chloe

Carole Matthews’ new book is due out on 16th September 2010, and the cover has been released, so here it is. I can’t say I’m too keen on it myself, it wouldn’t particularly stand out to me as the yellow is a bit drab for me, but as usual though, the story inside sounds great! Here’s the synopsis:

“Lily and Laurence Lamont-Jones have it all: lavish holidays in exotic locations, a top private school for their children, Hettie and Hugo, and a beautiful Buckinghamshire home with horses and stables. But their perfect world is about to be turned upside down. Laurence has lost his job and, on their return from holiday, they find their house and all their belongings have been repossessed. Forced to live in a council house on one of Milton Keynes’s roughest estates, the Lamont-Joneses are about to discover how the other half live. And with the help of true friends, a little luck and a lot of determination they learn that when you’ve reached rock bottom the only way is up…”

Ooh, I was excited to find this little bit of news today, and it’s an exclusive for us too! Jane Moore, an author who I really enjoy the books of (and her newspaper column is great too!) has her next book due out early next year, and I’ve found the cover online too. Love Is On The Air is due out on 3rd February 2011, however there’s no synopsis yet but of course I’ll post it as soon as it’s out there!

Book Cover: Gallery Girl by Wendy Holden

Posted on Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 by Chloe

Wendy Holden’s next book Gallery Girl is due out on 19th August 2010, and here’s the lovely cover for it. I really like it, I think it looks summery and very pretty! However, I haven’t read one of Wendy’s books in a while so I might try and get back into Wendy’s work with this one! Here’s the summary:

“Zeb’s the darling of Brit Art; the rock n’ roll bad boy artist whose works go for bazillions. But can he keep his end up – in every sense – now that his powerful female patron is losing interest? Beth loves art and the traditional gallery she works in and loves her boyfriend, doctor David. But the hospital hours he keeps are putting a strain on the relationship. Marie’s pop-star husband was big in the Nineties; he’s relaunching his boy band with a vengeance. But where does this leave Marie and her dreams of being a painter? Ben’s a brilliant portrait artist but no-one wants his stuff. Why have a picture that actually looks like you when you could have a gold-sprayed prosthetic limb? Disillusioned Ben’s reduced to living in the country and holding adult education life classes. But what happened to his life? Then Beth finds herself catapulted into the crazed world of contemporary art. Marie walks into Ben’s life class. And the picture changes completely.”

Cover Wars: Thanks for the Memories

Posted on Monday, May 3rd, 2010 by Leah

I’ve read most of Cecelia Ahern’s books although Thanks for the Memories is sitting on my shelf waiting for me to pick it up. The cover I have is the one on the right and I think it’s OK. Not my favourite of Cecelia’s covers by a long shot that’s for sure. However one day when I was browsing Amazon I happened across the American cover (left) and I fell in love. I much prefer it to the UK cover, I must say! It looks grown up and really fab. Do you agree?

Joyce Conway remembers things she shouldn’t. She knows about tiny cobbled streets in Paris, which she has never visited. And every night she dreams about an unknown little girl with blonde hair. When she leaves hospital after a terrible accident, with her life and her marriage in pieces, Joyce moves back in with her elderly father. All the while, a strong sense of deja vu is overwhelming her and she can’t figure out why! Justin Hitchcock is divorced, lonely and restless. He arrives in Dublin to give a lecture on art and meets attractive doctor Sarah, who persuades him to donate blood. It’s the first thing to come straight from his heart in a long time. When Justin receives a basket of muffins with a note simply saying thank you,he is sure someone is playing a trick on him. But then a series of gifts begin to arrive. Intrigued and disturbed, Justin is determined to find out who is sending them. What he discovers will change his life forever.

Cover Coincidence: Men I’ve Loved Before by Adele Parks

Posted on Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 by Leah

I was just browsing on Amazon, minding my own business when the cover for Zadie Smith’s book Changing My Mind caught my eye. I thought it looked incredibly familiar and I soon realised where I’d seen it before - barring the colours, it looks identical to Adele Park’s new cover design for Men I’ve Loved Before. Similar, no? I would assume they were both designed by the same person, otherwise it’s one heck of a coincidence!

I have to admit, seeing a cover design so similar makes it feel a little less special considering this is Adele’s new look with her new publishers! I’m not even a fan of the cover, anyway, to be honest - as it’s a bit blah for my tastes. What do you think of the similar covers?

Book Cover: Last Letter From Your Lover by Jojo Moyes

Posted on Friday, April 16th, 2010 by Chloe

While Jojo Moyes work isn’t perhaps classed as chick-lit, I was tempted to post it simply due to the beautiful cover of her book The Last Letter From Your Lover, so I did! I received a copy of this from the publishers and it was wrapped in brown paper and a pink ribbon, and looked so beautiful I really can’t wait to read it now. It’s due out 8th July and here’s the synopsis:

“When journalist Ellie looks through her newspaper’s archives for a story, she doesn’t think she’ll find anything of interest. Instead she discovers a letter from 1960, written by a man asking his lover to leave her husband – and Ellie is caught up in the intrigue of a past love affair. Despite, or perhaps because of her own romantic entanglements with a married man.

In 1960, Jennifer wakes up in hospital after a car accident. She can’t remember anything – her husband, her friends, who she used to be. And then, when she returns home, she uncovers a hidden letter, and begins to remember the lover she was willing to risk everything for.

Ellie and Jennifer’s stories of passion, adultery and loss are wound together in this richly emotive novel – interspersed with real ‘last letters’.”

Cover Wars: The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes

Posted on Thursday, April 15th, 2010 by Chloe

After the disappointment of the hardback cover for Marian Keyes’ latest release The Brightest Star in the Sky, I’m really in love with the paperback version of it which I’ve just spotted on Amazon! It’s a gorgeous midnight blue colour, and I think it definitely suits the mood of the book, far more than the gold shiny cover they chose for the hardback anyway! Here is the synopsis in case you’ve missed it so far:

“At 66, Star Street in Dublin, someone is watching over the lives of the people living in its flats. But no one is aware of it – yet… One of them is ready to take the plunge and fall in love; another is torn between two very different lovers. For some, secrets they want to stay buried will come to light and for others, the unveiling of those secrets will have tragic consequences. Fate is on its way to Star Street, bringing with it love and tragedy, friendship and heartbreak, and the power to change their lives in the most unexpected of ways…”

Book Cover: Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

Posted on Friday, April 9th, 2010 by Chloe

In some VERY exciting news, the book cover for the brand new and highly anticipiate new Sophie Kinsella book Mini Shopaholic has been released! I have to say I am a little disappointed as it’s not overly colourful and I don’t think it’ll stand out too much on a bookshelf, but then again it could be worse! What do you think of it?

“Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) thought motherhood would be a breeze – but it’s trickier than she thought. Two-year-old Minnie is a little tearaway who has created havoc everywhere from Harrods to Harvey Nicks to her own christening. She hires taxis at random, her favourite word is ‘Mine’, and she already has a penchant for Balenciaga bags. Becky is at her wits’ end.

On top of this, she and Luke are still living with her Mum and Dad, there’s a big financial crisis so everyone’s having to Cut Back – including all her personal shopping clients – and her husband Luke is feeling low after the death of his beloved stepmother. To cheer Luke up, Becky decides to throw him a surprise birthday party – on a budget – and that’s when things become really complicated. As Becky tries to keep the arrangements secret, misunderstandings and excuses sprout everywhere, and soon she’s told so many fibs she can’t keep track of them. Will Becky pull off the surprise? Will Minnie give everything away? Will Minnie’s godparents ever stop arguing? Who will end up on the naughty step and who will get a gold star? And what will happen when Becky discovers Luke is keeping a big secret too?”
