Cover Wars: I Remember You by Harriet Evans

Posted on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 by Chloe

When the hardback cover for Harriet Evans’ latest book I RememberYou was released last year (right), I loved it and thought it was quite pretty. However, I’ve just laid my eyes on the paperback version and I LOVE IT!! I think it’s so understated and gorgeous, I’m definitely going to buy a copy as I haven’t read it yet. Which do you prefer? Here’s the synopsis:

“For Tess Tennant, spring brings the promise of a fresh start. She’s moving back to her picture-perfect home town to take up a teaching job. Langford is a place of pretty stone cottages, friendly locals in oak-beamed pubs and of course Adam, her best friend since childhood. But Adam is preoccupied with a new girlfriend, and the past - which Tess thought she’d put behind her - is looming large again. So by the time she has to take her class on a trip to Rome, Tess is feeling reckless. She is swept off her feet by a mysterious stranger, and finds herself falling in love. But her magical Roman Holiday is about to turn into a nightmare… Back in Langford Adam is gone and everything has changed.Tess has to decide, once and for all, where she belongs and with whom.”

Book Cover: Step Sisters by Rupert James

Posted on Monday, April 5th, 2010 by Chloe

Hot off the heels of his successful debut novel Silk, Rupert James has his next book all ready for release in August. Step Sisters is due out on August 5th, and sounds like a really great read. Can’t say I’m too keen on the cover, but it’ll probably grow on me! Here’s the synopsis:

“First they were strangers…Elizabeth Miller is a recent graduate, planning the perfect wedding to her charming fiance. As far as she’s concerned Rachel Barnes is a complete stranger. Only the fact that Elizabeth’s father has just married Rachel’s flighty mother, Anna, makes them related. Then they were family…Elizabeth doesn’t want to like her new stepsister but, annoyingly both she and her brother, Chris, find the pretty teenager charming. If she has to have a baby sister then at least Rachel is sweet, bright and talented. Now they’re enemies…Years later and the two women are no longer sisters, no longer speaking after a devastating betrayal ripped their new family apart. Now an actress, Rachel is dating a rock star and one role away from making it big in Hollywood. Elizabeth is a tabloid journalist, one who knows one too many secrets about Rachel’s past. And both women are about to discover that hell hath no fury like a stepsister scorned…”

Cover Wars: The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern

Posted on Monday, March 29th, 2010 by Chloe

In a bit of a change, the publishers of Cecelia Ahern’s novels have decided to bring out the paperback version of her latest novel The Book of Tomorrow with a brand new cover. While I did like the hardback cover (left), I adore anything purple so I really do love the paperback version of the book (right) and think it brings a new look to a great story! Which do you prefer?

Book Cover: The Truth About You by Melissa Hill

Posted on Monday, March 22nd, 2010 by Chloe

Always eagerly awaited by me are the release of Melissa Hill’s novels because they are simply brilliant! Her next book, The Truth About You, is due out on May 27th, and the gorgeous cover was released exclusively in Melissa’s newsletter. In another bit of exciting Melissa news, we want to pass on our congratulations to Melissa and her husband who recently discovered they are expecting their first child next month! Here’s the synopss of The Truth About You:

“One morning in the small town of Lakeview, Ella Harris finds a cardboard box on the doorstop of her café. At first she thinks it’s her usual muffin delivery but is shocked to find that the box actually contains a newborn baby.

But what kind of mother would abandon a defenceless baby like that, and why?

Could it have been newly single Nina who, after being rejected by the father of her unborn child, has no choice but to return to Lakeview to stay with her estranged (and slightly peculiar) dad?

Or was it Lakeview-born Hollywood actress Eva Seymour, who on the eve of her triumphant return home from LA, has a completely ill-advised fling with a handsome co-star. A baby is certain to ruin her hard-fought-for career.

Or perhaps it’s happily married Jess who, as the only non-mum amongst her friends, finds herself increasingly left out. Terrified that she will lose them altogether, she embarks on becoming a mother too. But is she really rushing into something she really knows nothing about?”

Book Cover: Jumping In Puddles by Claire Allan

Posted on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010 by Chloe

The lovely Claire Allan has sent us a real exclusive today… the brand new cover for her paperback release of Jumping in Puddles! I read this book a few months ago and absolutely loved it, so I can’t tell you enough to go out and grab a copy when it’s released in paperback on May 26th! While I love the cartoony cover of the original release, this one is a little more eye-catching and grown up. It really is a fantastic read, and here’s the synopsis:

“When Detta O’Neill returns to Rathinch - a village in Donegal - she is determined to make a difference. Bringing together four lone parents for a support group which has the old biddies of the village scandalised, she tries her best to build bridges and forge friendships among her charges. Niamh Quigley’s dream of a perfect life in the country was cut cruelly short with the death of her husband Seán. A woman on the verge of meltdown but with a kitchen island you might just kill for she has to find her way again without the man she never thought could hurt her. Ruth Byrne was left high and dry when her husband ran off with a younger woman. But could his desertion have been a blessing in disguise for Ruth and her children? Liam Dougherty doesn’t think so. His wife is the younger woman in question and he would do anything to win her back … or would he? Which leaves teen mum Ciara Boyle. Everyone is just dying to know who the father of her child is, but does she have a good reason for keeping her secret to herself? Apart from being parents, can the group find anything in common? Can they find happiness and confidence again? And can Detta really make the difference she wants to make?”

Cover Wars: Daughters of Fortune by Tara Hyland

Posted on Thursday, February 25th, 2010 by Chloe

Tara Hyland’s debut novel Daughters of Fortune is due out on March 18th, but Tara is already having her book published over the Atlantic too in America! Tara posted the cover of her American book on her website, and I thought I could use it for a cover wars feature as I already know which I prefer! The UK one (left) is far superior in my mind, its far more attractive, and I would definitely pick this one up over the American cover (on the right). Which do you like?

“William Melville’s daughters are heiresses to the world’s most exclusive fashion dynasty. Beautiful and rich, they are envied by all. But behind the glittering facade of their lives, each girl hides a dark secret that threatens to tear their family apart. Smart, ambitious Elizabeth knows how to manipulate every man she meets, except the one who counts: her father. Gentle, naive Caitlin, the illegitimate child, struggling to fit into a world of privilege while staying true to herself. Stunning, spoilt Amber, the party girl with a weakness for bad boys; more fragile than anyone realises. As each of them seeks to carve out her own destiny, Elizabeth, Caitlin and Amber face difficult choices, which will take them in wildly different directions. But as old wounds resurface and threaten to destroy the foundations of the Melville empire, their paths will cross again. Because the simple truth is that, no matter how far you go, you cannot escape the claims of family.”

Book Cover: The Finishing Touches by Hester Browne

Posted on Monday, February 22nd, 2010 by Chloe

I’ve been looking forward to Hester Browne’s new book The Finishing Touches for a while now, so I was really excited when Isobel from Hodder sent us over this image of the brand new book cover! I think it’s gorgeous, so girlie and pink and I bet it’s even more pretty in real life! Its due in the shops on May 13th, and here’s the synopsis:

“Every girl should know what the finishing touches are.
That dash of gloss on the cheekbones to lift your complexion.
High heels for poise, and a luscious lipstick for the perfect pout.
It’s the spritz of perfume on the pulse points and the…

….ability to stand on your own two feet?

When 21st century girl Betsy is called in to rescue an exclusive finishing school from financial ruin, she knows she must change the school drastically, if it’s ever to survive.

So it’s out with debutante decorum and in with modern manners and man-management.

But before she can teach the girls how to walk in high heels, Betsy may just have to remember how to wear them herself.

With the added bonus that her gorgeous friend Jamie and the surprisingly hunky bursar Mark both seem to rather approve of her new stilettos…”

Cover Wars: Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani

Posted on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 by Chloe

Adriana Trigiani’s novel Very Valentine is released in paperback this week (4th February), and has a brand new look too, and is very different from Adriana’s previous covers. Perhaps this will open up the appeal to her books to more readers, and I know I would certainly look twice at this book thanks to the new cover design. I much prefer it to the hardback version (right) and its nice to see publishers realise the cover of a book is becoming more and more important! Which do you prefer?

Here’s the synopsis of Very Valentine:

“Meet Valentine, an unforgettable and passionate woman with a heart and a dream as big as New York City. Her dream? To design the perfect pair of shoes …The Angelini Shoe Company, makers of exquisite wedding shoes since 1903, is one of the last family-owned businesses in Greenwich Village. Now, in the twenty-first century, the company run so devotedly by Valentine and her grandmother Teodora faces financial ruin. Juggling a romantic relationship with dashing chef Roman Falconi, her duty to her family, and a design competition for a prestigious department store, Valentine accompanies her grandmother to Italy in the hope of finding inspiration. There, in Tuscany and on the Isle of Capri, she discovers her artistic voice and much more, turning her life around in ways she never expected.”
