Cover Wars: The Language of Flowers

Posted By Chloe on July 28th, 2011

Something a bit different this week for Cover Wars! After seeing the split decision on the UK/US covers for Vanessa Diffenbaugh’s debut novel The Language of Flowers, I was intrigued to look into a bit more and find out what other covers are out there. It seems like every country has a really different take on the book, and even though I think that the UK one is still my favourite, some of the others are really gorgeous, such as Israel cover. I have to say the Australian and German ones are my least favourites, they don’t capture the book for me at all. The Portugese cover also looks too much like some sort of gardening manual/dictionary for me as well. So tell me… which do you prefer?

(Australia) (Holland) (French)

(Germany) (Israel) (Italy)

(Poland) (Portugal)

The French and the Italian are my favourites - so beautiful!

I agree with you on the Australian and Germany ones, however I wasn’t fussed on the Israelian one either! Totally agree that the Portuguese one looks like a gardening manual!

The one from Holland took my breath away! Isn’t it fabulous to see the different cover arts from different countries. It’s cool to see what we connect with and what we don’t. Italy is also fabulous!

I’d have to say I’m torn between Holland and Italy! (And I agree - Portugal looks like something that would be on my Grandmothers bookshelf for gardening!)

It’s so fun to see all the different covers though!

The Israeli one wins by a mile. Quite beautiful and very clever. I also like the French one but don’t see the UK one there. Australian cover looks like a dark, horror-story cover, which I suspect is not what the book is about. None of the others would tempt me to buy.

I love seeing the different covers! I vote for the one from Holland!

Looks like the Italian one and the UK cover are the same.

I like the UK/Italy and Holland/Poland (almost the same) covers the best.

I agree with you 100%! Don’t like Australian, German, or Portuguese covers, but the others are all really beautiful and make me want to pick it up.

I vote for the Italian and English-I am the mother of the girl, and it was total serendipity that she was chosen for theses covers. Now her beautiful face is all over Europe! Watch these beautiful trailers…
