AW Cover Wars: The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh

Posted By Danielle on July 22nd, 2011

Last week Chloe highlighted the gorgeous cover of The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh which comes out August 23rd here in the US and on August 19 in the UK. After reading the synopsis for it I couldn’t help but look it up to see when it might be coming to the US and also see what the cover will look like. Well, it’s certainly different. Completely. If they were sitting side by side on the bookshelf I’m not sure I’d think they were the same book at all and I’m also not sure I’d think the US version(on the right) was a potential women’s fiction novel outside of the font used. That being said, I still think both covers are gorgeous and quite striking in their own right.

So, you tell me, which do you prefer and why?

UK one without a doubt. The use of colour and fonts are just so much nicer and prettier, I would assume the right hand cover (US) was a non fiction book about the topic, not women’s fiction at all!

UK Version defo! :) Oh yeah I’ll be making sure I nad a copy of that on August 19th :D The US version doesn’t look like a type of book most people would go for . . . .

They’re both gorgeous, but I think I prefer the one on the right. The one on the left has sort of a YA feel to it. Perhaps because YA (in the US anyway) often feature faces on the covers whereas Women’s Fiction either obscures them, cuts them out entirely, or features an object instead, like the above beautiful floral image. Either way, I’d be drawn to pick both of them up. I’m a sucker for a gorgeous cover!

I prefer the one on the left. It just catches my attention much more than the other.

I’d definitely stop to pick up the one on the left to see what it’s about. The one on the right — probably not.

On the left for sure, the right one screams boring to me.

The UK one is a beauty, I love the way it looks in real life, too. But I think you’ve all been so harsh on the US cover. The simplicity works. The flowers in the background, the blood red font, I think that’ll look brilliant in real life, really stark and contrasting.

I vote for the Polaroid cover.

You’re right, they are SO different.
