Posted By Chloe on August 25th, 2009

Finally we have a synopsis for Erica James’ latest book, The Queen of New Beginnings. It’s due for release through Orion on 18th February 2010, and there’s no cover yet but here’s the synopsis to whet your appetite!

Clayton Miller’s life is a mess. His career as one of the country’s best comedy script writers has stalled and his long term girlfriend has left him for his ex best friend and ex writing partner. Just when he thinks his life couldn’t get any worse, he commits a spectacularly public fall from grace and with the press hounding him, his agent banishes him to the middle of nowhere until the dust has settled.

At a remote country house he meets Alice …

Alice Shoemaker is a voiceover artist who habitually goes to great lengths to avoid telling the truth and after agreeing to help out a friend, by shopping and cleaning for the unknown man staying at Cuckoo House, she soon becomes suspicious that her strange and obnoxiously rude client has something to hide. But equally so, she has plenty to hide.

When they discover the truth about each other they form an unlikely friendship, but then Alice discovers Clayton has betrayed her in the worst possible way.”

Chick Lit Reviews has a re-design

Posted By Leah on August 25th, 2009

We’ve had another re-design so let us know what you think and tell us of any errors you come across. It isn’t too different to our other design but this one is more HTML-geared.

I apologise if the site looks a bit weird, I’m trying to add “Home” to the navigation bar but it takes so long to update that I can’t tell whether or not it has worked!

Book Review: Holly's Inbox by Holly Denham

Posted By Chloe on August 24th, 2009

Holly's InboxHolly Denham works as a receptionist at a big bank in London, and is slowly getting used to her job, alongside her colleagues, keeping in touch with her ever eccentric family and her best friends Jason and Aisha.

The “story” unfolds through the emails sent between Holly, her friends and family and basically gives the ups and downs of Holly’s life, from getting a new boyfriend, learning her job and trying to keep track of her Granny who is living it up at her OAP home.

The story does unfold quite slowly throughout the book but does work up to a nice and surprising climax at the end.

Book News: Dream Machine by Will Davis

Posted By Chloe on August 24th, 2009

Will Davis - Dream MachineI pretty much love all manner of reality singing shows, and having the X Factor back on our screens is fab! I’ve just read and loved Anne-Marie O’Connor’s take on singing shows with her fab book Star Struck, and now Will Davis has also taken on the subject too. His book, Dream Machine, was out a few weeks ago but I spotted it in the shop last weekend and had to share as it looks fab. Here’s the synopsis:

“And the name of the girl through to next week is says Stina, and I want to kill her for pausing once again. I want to see her bludgeoned to death with her own stupid mic, her even stupider skin tight dress all stained with oozing gore ‘ Thousands of wannabes are auditioning to be part of mega-girlband Purrfect in a new reality TV series. Among them are ice-queen Louise, who thinks she’s got god on her side, foulmouthed Joni, desperate to hide the fact that she’s got a baby, mousy teen Ella, obsessed with her stepmother’s boyfriend, and cocky Riana, a stripper with a naughty penchant for coke. Each one is determined to be the new Purrfect girl. But as the show progresses it seems someone has a very different sort of agenda in mind - someone who’s not afraid for things to get deadly Will Davis, author of the award-winning My Side of the Story, creates an explosive cocktail of comedy and pathos, in which four lives collide in the wretched pursuit of fame and fortune, spiralling towards a devastating conclusion that confronts the very nature of dreams, and ultimately questions the point of having them.”

Looking for a book…

Posted By Leah on August 23rd, 2009

As a blogger about all things chick-lit I should know the answer to my question - trouble is, I don’t! I’m looking for a book that I read a while ago. I’m pretty sure it was a chick-lit book. From what I can remember I think it was written in first-person and the main character sees her dad go out into the back garden one night and kill himself. I know that sounds dramatic but in the context of the book I don’t think it was quite like that!

I hope someone can tell me what book it was because I really can’t think what it was.
