Book Review: The Life You Want by Emily Barr

Posted By Leah on July 29th, 2009

emilybarrthelifeyouwantTansy Harris is a terrible mother. The kind who forgets to pick her children up from school, the kind who drinks half a bottle of wine at lunch-time, the kind who comtemplates an affair with her son’s teacher. The very worst kind.

But then, Tansy’s life is not one she ever wanted. When she married Max, and agreed to have his children, it was on the proviso that it wouldn’t change them: they’d still do whatever they want, see the world, be free. But they have changed, and Tansy can’t cope. With a full-scale meltdown looming, something must be done, and Tansy decides the answer is India. It’s somewhere she and Max always planned to visit together, but this is a trip Tansy will take alone: to take stock, sort her head out, come back a better person.

India turns out to be nothing like Tansy imagined, and yet everything she hoped for. But when she visits an old backpacker friend who’s joined a cult in the south, Tansy lifts the lid on something terrifying and much, much bigger that her. And the moment she realises she’s in the wrong place at the wrong time…. is the moment it’s too late.

Book News: Living La Vida Loca by Belinda Jones

Posted By Chloe on July 29th, 2009

We posted a while ago about the news of Belinda Jones’ new book (and first with publishers Hodder) Living La Vida Loca. Well, it’s now up for pre-order on Amazon with a release date of 15th April 2010! There is also a full synopsis up as well so here it is:

“Carmen’s been trapped in an oppressive relationship for Too Darn Long. So when her equally rock-bottom friend Beth suggests the ultimate escape – dancing their way through a series of scorchingly-hot countries – she can’t resist!

There’s just one catch… they can only go on this adventure if they participate in a reality TV show, one intent on teaching them the mournful tango in Argentina, the feisty, foot-stomping flamenco in Spain and the sassy, celebratory salsa in Cuba!

As they travel from Buenos Aires to Seville and ultimately steamy Havana, each dance has a profound affect on the girls – and indeed the sexy gauchos, matadors and dirty dancers who partner them…

But, when the sun goes down, do they have what it takes to go beyond the uno-dos-tres of the steps and to free their hearts for love?”

I’ve read a few of Belinda’s books, my favourite being her last book Out of the Blue so I can’t wait for this! We’ll post the cover as and when it’s out there.

Wow, these date changes are flying in! Having already drafted up my August posts, I went on Amazon to see if all the books for the next few months haven’t had date changes. Christina Jones’ new novel Moonshine‘s publication date has been brought forward and will now be released on August 6th. As a huge Christina fan I look forward to it and I love the beautiful cover!

For Cleo Moon, some things just never go according to plan …Newly single and unemployed, Cleo Moon ups sticks and moves to the gloriously rustic hamlet of Lovers Knot. With its host of mad but delightful neighbours, she very soon feels at home, especially when she finds The Most Beautiful Boy in the World slumped on her doorstep – the drop-dead-gorgeous and achingly-upper-class Dylan Maguire.

But when she is given the taxing task of organising the annual Harvest shindig, things start going HORRIBLY wrong for Cleo. She decides to dust off an old book on winemaking to concoct a new harvest tipple, and by the time she’s uncorked the first bottle, nothing in Lovers Knot will ever be the same again …

Sisters in Law by Nina BellNina Bell is another new author, and has signed with publishers Sphere, and her debut novel Sisters-In-Law is due for release in September. The funky eye-catching cover looks really cool, and the plot sounds just like something I would love to read. Here’s the synopsis:

“Sisters-in-law Kate, Helen and Olivia all have one thing in common - they’re hiding something. It’s not easy being part of the high-achieving Fox family: the expectations and demands of their husbands and children; the jealousies and rivalries; and the endless Sunday lunches where somehow everything feels like a competition. So when mysterious Sasha enters their lives, bloodied from the battlefield of a painful divorce, buried frustrations rush to the surface. Why is Kate’s husband Jonny working so late at the office, and how will she cope at home alone? Can army-wife Heather trust Jack to come back to her next time, or is he drawn by temptations in a foreign field? And will Simon’s explosive secret blow Olivia’s marriage apart once and for all? Three sisters-in-law. One devastating divorcee. Whose husband is about to play with fire?”
