The Bachelor and Spinster Ball by Janet Gover - 12th November 2009

“Sexy Nick, feisty Bec and dreamy Hailey all grew up together in the tiny, one-horse town of Farwell Creek. In fact, Nick and Bec were the town’s teen-dream couple, until Bec made a break for it and shook the small-town dust off her heels for the big-city lights. Now she’s back – but Nick doesn’t have romantic feelings for her any more … does he?

Sweet, idealistic Hailey is caught between her old friends, but has too many problems of her own to be able to worry about theirs. Devastated at the loss of her parents, who died in a crash a year earlier, she’s too wrapped up in her own thoughts to even think about leaving town or finding love.

It will take a devastating bush-fire, a black-tie ball under the stars, and a road-trip to help all three friends work out who and what they want – and what they need.”

When her new assignment leads her to India to document an ashram high in the hills, Priya hopes to find some much-needed serenity. But with mystery and secrets at its heart, she’s soon convinced something sinister is afoot. And with her feelings for attractive tour guide Noah complicating things further, Priya can’t help but wonder: is Noah really interested in her, or is he trying to distract her from finding out the truth?”

Book News: Hen Night Prophecies by Jessica Fox

Posted By Leah on July 14th, 2009

Jessica Fox’s debut novel The One That Got Away was released on May 28th by Little Black Dress and is the first of five in a “Hen Night Prophecy” series (where five different girls get their own puzzling prophecy at a friends’ hen night). The synopsis for The One That Got Away reads:theonethatgotawayjessicafox

Zoe Piper adores her four best friends – Fern, Libby, Charlotte and Priya – so is thrilled when they can all make it to her hen night, where one of the girls arranges for a tarot-card reader to give them a reading individually. Afterwards, each one stumbles out a little dazed, perplexed by how spookily accurate the reader was, but each one keeps quiet about their own readings. In each of the five volumes of THE HEN NIGHT PROPHECIES we learn how their prophecies come true – this first book follows the fortunes of Fern, who is told that she has already met The One, but let him go

The second in the series, Eastern Promises, will be released on the 26th November and the synopsis reads:

Priya’s prophecy, ‘In love, mother knows best…’ does not fit her fiercely independent, successful world. She’s fed up of her disapproving Hindu family’s constant meddling in her love-life. Distrusful of men ever since her betrayal by boss and ex-boyfriend Vic, she throws herself into work. When her new assignment leads her to India to document an ashram high in the hills, Priya hopes to find some much-needed serenity. But with mystery and secrets at its heart, she’s soon convinced something sinister is afoot. And with her feelings for attractive tour guide Noah complicating things further, Priya can’t help but wonder: is Noah really interested in her, or is he trying to distract her from finding out the truth?

The third, currently untitled, will be released in March 2010 and the synopsis reads:

Risk-taker Libby Foster wishes she thought things through more – maybe then she’d avoid being humiliated at work over her reckless romantic attachments. So it’s just as well that she’s swearing herself off men and escaping to a Thai island to work on location casting for a romance-slash-action film. But is she really such a danger to the opposite sex? A series of bizarre events in the serene beach surroundings have Libby fretting, but could it be she’s met her match in Craig, the daredevil martial arts instructor training her cast?

No news on the fourth and fifth volumes but I assume they’ll be released in 2010/2011. It sounds like an interesting series and one I’ll be looking out for!

But then the ex-girlfriend of her sort-of boyfriend Ty Cameron – the drop-dead gorgeous Claudia Gray – literally drops down dead. Even worse, Haley’s mother is prime suspect: Claudia was poisoned with food from her company. Haley’s heard of death by chocolate, but death by edible fruit bouquet? High jinks, misunderstandings and conflicted passions – Regency rocks in the latest racy read from Janet Mullany

1822, England: Lady Caroline Elmhurst is twice-widowed, down on her luck and pursued by creditors. But she’s optimistic about finding a new husband – or if necessary, a rich lover – and when she meets handsome, mysterious Nicholas Congrevance at a house-party in the country, she sets out to entice him. For his part, Nicholas simply sees Lady Caroline Elmhurst as just the sort of woman he’s used to exploiting – rich, available, and gullible. Neither realizes the other is penniless and neither has any intention of falling in love…

Author of the Week: Kate Lace

Posted By Leah on June 18th, 2009

Kate Lace is the author of 4 Little Black Dress novels and her 4th, Love Boat, is out in October. Kate also writes romantic fiction under the name of Catherine Jones (her actual name!) .

Before turning to writing Kate was in the Army and got promoted to Captain. She also met and married her husband during her Army days. After falling pregnant and having to leave the Army, Kate was invited to help out on a magazine and that is where she discovered she could really write. Kate has also appeared on University Challenge in 2005.

I read The Chalet Girl ages ago and really enjoyed it. I’ll have to try and get my hands on it again. I love Little Black Dress books so it’s great to have another author whose LBD books I enjoy. Her other novels are The Trophy Girl, The Movie Girl and The Love Boat. I haven’t read any of those but do want to read them!

Book News: June Releases from Little Black Dress

Posted By Chloe on June 1st, 2009

Coming up this month from the Little Black Dress publishing group:

Julie Cohen - Girl From Mars - 14th June

I, Philomena Desdemona Brown, do solemnly swear to forsake all romantic relationships…

It’s not like the vow, made by Fil and her three nerdy male best friends, seemed much of a big deal at the time. Frankly, Fil wouldn’t know romance if it hit her in the face, and with her real love being her artist job at Girl from Mars, the comic whose heroine has never had a love interest, she doesn’t exactly mind being relationship-free anyway. Until her world is rocked to its core when one of her long-standing quartet and Girl from Mars herself both unexpectedly fall in love. Is it time to give in to temptation and finally fall in love?

Marisa Heath - Perfect Image - 25th June

Young, naïve and stunning, Katrina is trying to make it as a model in Paris, sharing a tiny, run-down dorm and only just scraping a living. She’s about to cut her loses and head back to London when she’s spotted one night and asked out by THE ultimate movie heart-throb, actor Dominic Cayley.

She knows not to get too excited though – his girlfriends never last longer than a few dates. But when he keeps turning up on her doorstep, whisking her off for super-glam party weekends in Monaco, showering her in expensive jewels and designer clothes, she’s more than happy to be swept off her feet..

Book News: Little Black Dress April Releases

Posted By Leah on March 30th, 2009

Little Black Dress are releasing three novels in April. All three come out on April 2nd. Here are the covers and blurbs. Tomorrow… all the books out in April from all the other publishers.fidelityprojectsusanconley1

SUSAN CONLEY - THE FIDELITY PROJECT

Jacinta Quirke and Maxine O’Malley, a.k.a. Jax and Max, need a plan, fast. They’ve just heard rumours that they are about to lose their jobs at advertising agency ACJ in Dublin. Could they make it in the (supposedly) more lucrative world of TV?

Their proposal: a documentary on fidelity. Is long-term monogamy a sham as cynical Max believes? Or will Jax, the hopeless romantic, prove her wrong. Putting a variety of couples into the hot seat, they get the cameras rolling. But when they turn on each other’s love-lives, the trouble really starts…

Friendship, passion and fidelity – nothing’s ever simple when it comes to love.

NIAMH SHAW - SMART CASUALsmartcasuelniamhshaw1

Olivia Smith is stuck in a rut. Working nine-to-five in a dreary The Office-style company, her only hope is to scale the corporate ladder, and fast.

Lucky this new employee who’s apparently starting soon, Luke Wylie, is coming along to help out, eh?

Well, it would be, except that Olivia’s got it wrong (again) and Luke actually turns out to be her new boss.

She’ll never forgive him. Ever. Except… he is completely gorgeous, and he does seem to be making a massive effort to win her over…

Find out if Olivia’s made to be a lover or a hater in this gorgeous, fast and funny read!

TARRAS WILDING - LEOPARD ROCKleopardrocktarraswilding

Rumour and romance get all stirred up in a fabulous read from the heart of the African outback

Roo Beckett knew there had to be a catch when she won first prize in a prestigious wildlife fim-making competition. A month’s mentorship in the beautiful South African game reserve, Leopard Rock, with renowened film-maker Wyk Kruger, seemed simply too good to be true.

Sure enough, after her free-loading, fashion-magazine colleagues decide to tag along, Roo’s solo African adventure doesn’t have the best of starts. But that’s the least of her worries. Lost in the African outback, Roo’s soon struggling with a bigger and more unexpected problem - her attraction to the mysterious Wyk himself…
