Book News: Confessions of a Reluctant Recessionista by Amy Silver

Posted By Chloe on June 22nd, 2009

Amy Silver’s debut novel is aimed at the current financial problems the world is facing at the moment… with a few added laughs along the way I’m sure! Confessions of a Reluctant Recessionista is due for release on 1st October 2009 through Pocket Books and sounds very funny. Here’s the synopsis:

Cassie Cavanagh has never minded being ‘just a PA’. In fact, she’s quite content with her lot. She has a city job she kind of enjoys - after all she is indispensable you know. She has a boyfriend who showers her with gifts - what more could a girl want? And she earns enough to - just about - finance the luxuries she’s become used to. But Cassie hadn’t banked on being made redundant. Nor had she pictured her boyfriend leaving her for an older woman! Nor had she ever imagined having to take financial advice from her student flatmate. Reluctant to embrace the art of being thrifty, if Cassie’s going to survive the recession in style, she’s a lot to learn about budgeting. And even more to learn about herself.”

Look out for it in the shops in the autumn.

Book News: The Mistress by Martine McCutcheon

Posted By Chloe on May 15th, 2009

British actress and singer Martine McCutcheon isn’t content with her already successful career - she’s now branching out into writing books as well! Her debut novel The Mistress has been picked up by PanMacmillan Books and is set for release on 6th November of this year. Here’s the synopsis taken from Amazon:

“Mandy is turning 30 and has a lot of love to give, but that special person has so far eluded her. Then, at her birthday party with close friends at the Wolseley, Cupid strikes from across a crowded room. It’s love at first sight, but Jake, the man she’s fallen for, is happily married. Mandy is determined to stick to her principles and not enter into such dangerous territory, but her resistance is to prove futile. But can she make it as a mistress? Can it work for someone to love two people? A romance with a twist, “The Mistress”, has an unusual, modern take on what women want.”

It’s part of a trilogy about strong women, and the title of the second book has already been released; The Actress. It’ll be interesting to see what Martine’s writing style is like, but I am sure it will be as successful as the other areas of her career!
