AW Book News: I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

Posted By Leah on September 24th, 2011

We all know that Sophie Kinsella is back next year. Can I get a “Yaaaaaaaaaaay”? It’s a stand-alone (no Shopaholic LA… yet!) and it’s called I’ve Got Your Number. It’s out on both sides of the Atlantic in February, releasing in America on February 14th 2012. We have the synopsis and it sounds AWESOME. I can’t wait to read it. Really, I can’t. I mean, is it February yet? Here’s the synopsis:

Kinsella returns with her strongest stand-alone since Remember Me?, with a heroine who brings a whole new level of wit, intelligence, and romance to the social network. Poppy is thrilled: she is marrying the man of her dreams—Magnus Tavish. Never mind that his family of footnote obsessed academics looks down their nose at the fact that she is a physical therapist with no real academic credentials. Still, Magnus has bestowed up on her the huge family emerald engagement ring. But…an alarm goes off at the hotel where Poppy’s girlfriends are all passing the ring around during a celebratory tea, and in the ensuing melee the ring vanishes! Then Poppy’s cell phone gets swiped by a bicyclist, and her only means of immediate communication disappears. She is distraught—until she sees another phone, tossed away in the hotel bin. Instant relief… she emails the new number to all her friends, but then the phone rings, and a strange mans’ voice demands, “Excuse me, who is this? Why are you answering this number?” Thus ensues the best, warmest, and funniest Kinsella yet as Poppy, tied to a stranger by cell, text, and email upends his life and her own in ways neither could have ever imagined.

AW Book Deal: Barbara Kingsolver’s Flight Behavior

Posted By Danielle on August 20th, 2011

Author of the highly acclaimed The Poisonwood Bible, Prodigal Summer, and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle Barbara Kingsolver has just announced via Publishers Marketplace that she’ll have another book for publication in Fall, 2012 with HarperCollins. Her newest, Flight Behavior is described as the following:

Set in a small town in Tennessee, about a young woman who happens upon a forested valley filled with silent red fire, and whose attempt to share the wonder and find an explanation throws her into a spiraling confrontation with her family, her church, her town, her continent, and finally the world at large.

Perhaps I’m missing out, but I have yet to read a Kingsolver novel and though her following is rather strong I’ve never been drawn to any of her titles. That is, until now. Flight Behavior sounds wonderful and I love the setting as well. It’s definitely got huge potential and may be the book that finally has me taking the plunge into Kingsolver territory.

What about you? Have you read a Kingsolver novel? The Poisonwood Bible is likely her most recognizable due to the fact that it was at one point picked as an Oprah Book Club novel. Have you read it? What do you think and will you be picking up Flight Behavior?

AW Book News: Jodi Picoult’s New YA Novel

Posted By Danielle on August 13th, 2011

It was just announced that Jodi Picoult has teamed up with her daughter Sammy to co-write a “young teen novel” titled Between the Lines due out in June 2012. According to Jodi’s Facebook update the book in a nutshell is about…

A prince who wants to break free from his fairytale existence…and the girl who falls for him while she’s reading. It’s sweet and romantic and funny.

Personally I think the premise sounds adorable and completely unique, which honestly kind of surprised me. In the recent past there have been a few different authors making the crossover from one genre or another into the Young Adult market and I’ve often wondered if the pursuit wasn’t all about money. I’m hoping, perhaps because I think Jodi’s a stand-up gal, that this was an honest attempt to try something new and with someone she loves spending time with. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for it come next Spring/Summer.

So, my question to Chick Lit Reviews readers is this, are you excited to see a new side of Jodi?

Book News: I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

Posted By Leah on August 9th, 2011

We’re not posting about 2012 releases yet, but over the weekend Sophie Kinsella’s official Facebook page released some info about her new novel I’ve Got Your Number. It’s out in February next year and you have got no idea how excited I am. Seriously. I adore Ms Kinsella and I can’t wait for her new book! How AWESOME does it sound? I know, right!

When Poppy loses her engagement ring and her mobile all in the same disastrous evening, it seems the obvious solution to make use of a phone she finds, by chance, abandoned in a hotel bin. But inevitably her life becomes entangled with the real owner of the phone, a high-flying businessman called Sam who becomes increasingly irritated when Poppy can’t resist meddling in his affairs…

AW Book News: Dreaming of Mr Darcy by Victoria Connelly

Posted By Leah on July 30th, 2011

The first novel of Victoria Connelly’s Jane Austen trilogy was released in the US just this past month and the second will be following it out pretty speedily, when it comes out on 1st January 2012 (New Year’s Day!). It keeps the original title of Dreaming of Mr Darcy (doesn’t that make you dreamy?) (in the UK it was released as The Perfect Hero). I love the cover, the old-fashionedness of it works really well.

Fledgling illustrator and Darcy fanatic Kay Ashton settles in the seaside town of Lyme to finish her book, The Illustrated Mr. Darcy, when a film company arrives to make a new adaptation of Persuasion. Kay is soon falling for the handsome bad boy actor playing Captain Wentworth, but it’s the quiet screenwriter Adam Craig who has more in common with her beloved Mr. Darcy. Though still healing from a broken heart, Adam finds himself unexpectedly in love with Kay, but it will take more than good intentions to convince her that her real happy ending is with him.

Will you be buying the novel? Do you guys like Jane Austen inspired novels?

Why we like/dislike it:
The book cover for The Statistical Probability of Love At First Sight is one of my favourite book covers ever! As soon as I saw it, I fell in love. It’s so whimsical and so colourful and it would jump out at me immediately if I spied it in a book shop. I’ve had the pleasure to already read the novel (it’s stunning). Headline have done a wonderful job to give a stunning novel a stunning cover. This will seriously stand out on shelves and I cannot wait to see it in person myself, too.

Overall mark out of 10:

Would we buy this book based on its cover? Yes!

Book News: Saved By Cake by Marian Keyes

Posted By Leah on July 25th, 2011

We’re not really posting about 2012 releases, but as I was browsing the Curtis Brown website I came across a new Marian Keyes book! Saved By Cake is a non-fiction book and according to her agents website, is due for release in March 2012. I’m so pleased to see something new from Marian, even if it’s not a fiction novel! I for one can’t wait to read it, I’ve enjoyed Marian’s previous non-fiction books and I look forward to this one, especially as I remember reading on her blog about her newfound love of baking! After so long without a blog or any news from Marian, it’s nice to see she’s been able to put pen to paper and we’ll have a new book from her.

From one of the best-loved novelists in Britain comes a book for all of us who love to bake (or would love to learn).

After a difficult period in her life, Marian Keyes found solace in baking. The precision of the measurements, the light spring of a well-baked cake, the prettiness of the frosting and decorations: the whole process was soothing. She immersed herself in the world of recipes and piping bags and silicone cake moulds, baking for friends, family and (when they couldn’t eat another bite) total strangers. In short, she fell in love with baking.

Saved By Cake is a dose of pure Marian. Funny and charming as ever, Marian guides you through the world of baking in her own inimitable way. It’s perfect for novice bakers, with plenty of advice for beginners, but the recipes are delicious and unique enough to appeal to even the most seasoned of bakers. From Slightly Sinister Star Anise cupcakes to Blokey Snickers Loaf Cheesecake, from Lemon and Thyme biscuits to the Ultimate Chocolate Cake, Marian has something for everyone’s taste buds. And with her as your guide, this is baking as it’s meant to be: pure, unadulterated fun!

AW Book News: Being Lara by Lola Jaye

Posted By Chloe on July 23rd, 2011

Lola Jaye’s new novel is actually being published in the USA before it’s coming out over here, so we thought we’d bring the news to you now. Being Lara is due out in 2012, and a portion of the synopsis has been released, with Lola saying on Facebook that more is to come!

“‘Fans of commercial women’s fiction will be drawn to this moving tale of three women—mother, birth mother, and daughter—the choices they make, and the fragile family bond they try to create across time and continents’”
