Jackie Collins backlist acquired by Simon & Schuster
Blockbuster writer Jackie Collins is to get a backlist makeover and a new marketing push, after Simon & Schuster bought her first 20 novels from Pan Macmillan. S&S m.d. Ian Chapman signed the deal for UK and Commonwealth territories, including digital, with Pan Mac publisher Jeremy Trevathan. The deal, done through Collins’ agent Andrew Nurnberg, brings all of her novels under the same publishing roof for the first time since 2000, when Collins moved to S&S for her book Lethal Seduction. S&S will also publish the newly-acquired titles—none of which have yet been made available digitally—as e-books.
S&S has already begun repackaging the Collins backlist it already owns, and the newly-acquired titles—which include Chances, Lucky, Hollywood Wives and The Stud—will be republished in the same style from early next year. S&S said it was planning a “huge promotional push” for the backlist, along with the digital publishing.
Chapman said: “This year has seen Jackie regain her rightful place at the top of the hardcover bestseller list; and 2012, as we revitalise these classic titles with stunning new packages, will be a very big year for her.” He added that having all her titles together under one publishing roof “gives us the opportunity to work with all our customers to develop Jackie’s brand even further and to reach a new audience for all her books—digitally as well as in print versions.” Collins said she was “delighted” by the development and was looking forward to working with the S&S team on the repackage and promotion, plus the new novel she has begun work on, The Power Trip.

Despite not being a big fan of the new Jackie Collins’ cover for Goddess of Vengeance, it does make more sense now that we know every single Jackie Collins novel will soon have the same cover. I love that. I mean, seriously, that’s almost 30 books all with the same cover style. I could just die. We’ll bring them all to you when we can, it’s going to look awesome.
