Chick Flick Tuesday: Friends

Chick Flick Tuesday highlights the best chick flicks in the movie world as well as bringing you news on upcoming chick flick releases as well as letting you all know about which chick lit books are being made into chick flick movies!

I am actually going to do something a bit different this week simply because I have really appreciated this week just how absolutely brilliant this show is, and how much I miss it! Instead of picking a film this week, I am choosing the entire Friends box set, that’s right, series 1 right through to 10! This show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc, has become (and rightly so) television history, and it doesn’t matter how many times I watch any of the episodes, they never fail to make me laugh and feel like I really am watching a group of old friends! I was gutted when it ended back in 2001 but now I can relive every episode whenever I want on DVD… this doesn’t stop me watching it on E4 though lol! And who can forget the superb comedy moments ‘Friends’ have given us… remember PIVOT!! PIVOT!!!!!

The show followed the lives of six twenty-something singles-Monica (Courtney Cox), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), Joey (Matt LeBlanc), Ross (David Schwimmer), and Chandler (Matthew Perry)-who occupied a trendy New York loft apartment. These were essentially six beautiful people who had probably never known a hard day’s work in their lives, and whose every utterance was a well-crafted witticism. But despite their idealized lifestyles and perfectly coiffed hairdos, there was something annoyingly endearing about them. Viewers could easily relate to their struggles with work, sex, and relationships because these were universal struggles - albeit heightened for comedic effect. From early on it was clear that Friends had successfully tapped into the zeitgeist of its time, and now, 10 series down the line, the show’s broad appeal continues to live on in popular culture.
