Book Review: A Reluctant Cinderella by Alison Bond

Posted on Monday, May 24th, 2010 by Chloe

Samantha Sharp is a football agent, and a very good one at that. She’s worked hard to get to the top in a male oriented world, and it’s finally paying off. However, when Sam is set up and her beloved career threatened, she’s determined to clear her name and get to the bottom of who wants to destroy her life. She’s also afraid that if her bosses dig hard enough, they’re going to find out about something about Sam’s past she has managed to keep hidden for a long time, and something that she doesn’t want to come out. Is Samantha going to be able to fight for justice for herself, or is everything she’s worked hard to build going to crumble down around her?

Book Cover: One Secret Summer by Lesley Lokko

Posted on Monday, May 24th, 2010 by Leah

Another author that is relatively new to me is Lesley Lokko. I think we may have posted something about her last book but apart from that, she’s never really come to my attention. However I was browsing around the web and came across the cover for her next book One Secret Summer which is due out on 30th September 2010. I think the cover looks really nice and the synopsis sounds intriguing, too:

The Keelers are one of those nice, middle-class English families who seem to have it all. Diana is the matriarch - a highly successful barrister and QC, she’s the force that keeps everyone and everything together. Her sons Rafe, Aaron and Josh are in their mid-thirties when they each, in turn, get married. The arrival into the family of three very different women - Maddy, an American actress; Julia, lawyer with working-class roots and Niela, a young Somali refugee - upsets the carefully constructed balance of family life that Diana has worked so hard to maintain. There’s a dreadful secret at the heart of the Keeler family and slowly, each of the women in her own way, begins to unravel what it is that Diana has kept hidden for so long. Touched with glamour and escapism, this riveting new novel from Lesley Lokko takes you right to the heart of a family secret.

Book News: Stolen Child by Laura Elliot

Posted on Monday, May 24th, 2010 by Leah

Laura Elliot’s debut novel A Prodigal Sister was released last year and I managed to pick it up at the book swop some months ago. I have yet to read it but it does sound fab so I will get around to it eventually. Laura’s next book called Stolen Child will be published on 22nd July 2010. It sounds like a fantastic read - one fans of Jodi Picoult, Diane Chamberlain and Giselle Green will adore and I must say I’m really looking forward to it. Here’s the synopsis:

When Carla Kelly and Robert Gardner marry, they seem destined for happiness. But tragedy strikes when their two-day-old baby, Isobel, is stolen. Distraught and bewildered, they must cope with the media frenzy that follows. Isobel’s whereabouts remains a mystery for sixteen years. As hope of finding her fades, their marriage disintegrates under the strain and they divorce. Robert moves to Australia and Carla, who had been a successful model, becomes reclusive.

Meanwhile, many miles away in a small country town-land, Aisling Nolan, unaware of her true identity, is the adored only child of Susan and David Nolan. When she discovers the truth, she struggles to come to terms with the knowledge that her childhood was based on a lie - and that the woman she knew as her mother must now stand trial for kidnapping. David, under police investigation, is determined to prove his innocence. For Carla and Robert, the adjustment is equally painful. Their long search is over but their daughter is a stranger to them. Initially, Carla’s anger towards David is intense but, as his story unfolds, and with the eyes of the media watching, she is aware of a strong, mutual attraction drawing them towards each other. Stolen Child is a love story about two families who are torn apart by deception and the consequences of a reckless act that shaped their futures.
