Book Review: The Finishing Touches by Hester Browne

Posted on Monday, May 10th, 2010 by Chloe

Every girl should know what the finishing touches are.

That dash of gloss on the cheekbones to lift your complexion.
High heels for poise, and a luscious lipstick for the perfect pout.
It’s the spritz of perfume on the pulse points and the…
….ability to stand on your own two feet?

When 21st century girl Betsy is called in to rescue an exclusive finishing school from financial ruin, she knows she must change the school drastically, if it’s ever to survive. So it’s out with debutante decorum and in with modern manners and man-management. But before she can teach the girls how to walk in high heels, Betsy may just have to remember how to wear them herself. With the added bonus that her gorgeous friend Jamie and the surprisingly hunky bursar Mark both seem to rather approve of her new stilettos…

Book Cover: Bad Girls by Rebecca Chance

Posted on Monday, May 10th, 2010 by Leah

Chloe absolutely loved Rebecca Chance’s debut novel Divas so I’m fairly sure she’ll be looking out for Rebecca’s second book Bad Girls. It was originally titled Drama Queens (which I think I prefer) and is due out on 5th August 2010. I’m personally not a huge fan of the cover; the shoe looks like a ripoff of Lauren Weisberger’s books and it doesn’t look as though it’s going to stand out very much on the shelves. Here’s the synopsis:

They met in rehab - but some of them had rather more therapy than they bargained for. Supermodel Amber Peters should have the world at her feet. But her secret addiction has led her down a dangerous path. Lap dancer Skye Ellwood is desperate to get out of the life she’s living, but has no idea how - until a client makes her an unusual proposition. Following an ultimatum from his fiance, A-list movie star Joe Jeffreys is finally heading to rehab to sort out his sex addiction - and save his squeaky-clean image. Spoiled daughter of a legendary rock god, Petal Gold is convinced she’s a huge star in waiting, and she’ll trample on anyone she thinks is standing in her way. Passion, jealousy, betrayal, revenge and scandal: during their tumultuous thirty days at Cascabel clinic, the lives of Amber, Skye, Joe and Petal will be transformed forever. But for one of them, the stakes could not be higher - or more dangerous.

Book News: Love From Cecily by Harriet Evans

Posted on Monday, May 10th, 2010 by Leah

Harriet Evans is back on 14th October 2010 with her latest book with the fab title of Love From Cecily. It sounds like a fairly interesting read but I’ll probably wait for the paperback release as I wasn’t a huge fan of Harriet’s previous title. Here’s the synopsis:

Natasha Kapoor’s life is at a turning point as she heads down to the magical Cornish coast for the funeral of her beloved grandmother Frances. Devastated by the recent discovery of her husband Oli’s infidelity, time away with her extended family should be comforting. But when Natasha discovers the lost diary of her aunt Cecily, who died in a tragic accident at the age of 14, she uncovers painful and shocking family secrets. We can hear footsteps on the stairs. ‘Take it,’ Tariq says suddenly, as someone gets closer. ‘It’s all in there, you know.’ He looks up at me, tiny black eyes piercing into me. ‘This family is poisoned. They won’t tell you, but they are.’ As a tragic tale emerges from the ashes of history, Natasha must make some life changing choices. Will she stay with the adulterous father of her child and how will she cope in the knowledge that the secrets from a generation ago could tear her family apart?
