Chick Flick Tuesday: Linda Green’s Top 10 80′s Flicks!

Posted on Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 by Leah

Chick Flick Tuesday highlights the best chick flicks in the movie world as well as bringing you news on upcoming chick flick releases as well as letting you all know about which chick lit books are being made into chick flick movies!

This week we have a very special Chick Flick Tuesday for everyone. Author Linda Green has popped in to tell you all her favourite 80′s flicks to help celebrate the release of her new 80′s inspired book Things I Wish I’d Known (due out on Thursday and will be reviewed tomorrow on here). Our thanks go to Linda for compiling this list and do head over to Twitter at any time this week to let the Headline group know what you wish you had known back in your teenage years!

    1. When Harry Met Sally
For the classic ‘I’ll have what she’s having’ scene.

    2.Gregory’s Girl
I so wanted to be Dee Hepburn.

    3.The Breakfast Club
The brat pack at their best and a very cool teen flick.

    4. Dead Poet’s Society
Not girly, I know but truly inspiring and ‘captain, my captain’ always makes me cry.

    5. Witness
Fantastic sexual chemistry between a fully-clothed Kelly McGillis and Harrison Ford.

    6. Footloose
Still remember the moves to the feet at the beginning. Me and my friends did the dance all the way home.

    7. An Officer and a Gentleman
Richard Gere doesn’t usually do it for me but when he scooped Debra Winger up in his arms . . .

    8.Flashdance
What I would have given to be as hot as Jennifer Beals - though not to be a welder, obviously.

    9. Dangerous Liaisons
Chick-flick in corsets. Wonderfully wicked and clever.

    10. Fatal Attraction
The film that brought a whole new meaning to a ‘kitchen sink drama’.

Book News: Inheritance by Tara Palmer-Tomkinson

Posted on Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 by Leah

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson is following in the footsteps of Penny Smith, Katie Price, Martine McCutcheon, Sharon Osbourne and Coleen Nolan and is bringing out a novel. Inheritance is due out on 1st October 2010 and I would assume Tara will be using a ghost-writer to help her in her quest to be a novelist. I won’t be reading it myself as I find celebrity offerings are usually rubbish and I truly struggle to take a character seriously when she’s called Lyric. I’m sure Inheritance will have its fans though and here is the synopsis:

Notorious party-loving ‘It Girl’ Lyric Charlton has it all – the lineage, the looks and the lifestyle. A moneyed upbringing at the heart of one of the upper class’s most well-connected families, a finishing school education and an address book bursting with the world’s most powerful and high-profile people has crowned her the glamorous poster girl for the aristocratic glitterati.

But when her doomed relationship with suave boy-about-town Ralph Conway means she takes the good times too far, she is packed off to rehab by her worried parents, and the public shame and private humiliation that follow means Lyric’s only option seems to be to retreat into sober obscurity. But what no one can predict is the dramatic chain of events her exile sets in motion. For Lyric’s treatment is the start of much more than a life as an ex-addict. It’s the catalyst that exposes a complex web of deceit and betrayal – and leads Lyric on an increasingly dangerous quest to find the final missing piece of the jigsaw of her life…

Sarah Duncan has a new book out this week called Kissing Mr Wrong and her fabulous publishers at Headline have given us 3 SIGNED copies to giveaway to our readers! I loved Sarah’s last book A Single to Rome and I look forward to reading this one because the cover makes it look like a fabulous summer read!

To enter, just send us an email to [email protected] with your name and address on (only Leah and I have access to these emails) and we’ll pick 3 entries at random using random.org. The competition closes on Saturday 16th May at midnight, so get those entries in! UK entries only. 1 entry per household.

    Good luck!

“Lu Edwards may write and illustrate books for children, but she’s certain she doesn’t want children of her own. She believes in travelling light, with not even a goldfish to tie her down, until Nick – a WWI expert with more baggage than Heathrow, right down to the kids, ex-wife and hamster – blows into her life. He’s absolutely not Mr Right, but as he helps Lu trace a strand of her family history, she finds herself being drawn into his chaotic but warm world. Being the wicked step-mother was never a role Lu fancied playing, though, and she’s not sure that loving Nick will be enough for a happy ever after together…”
