Chick Flick Tuesday: The Time Traveller’s Wife

Chick Flick Tuesday highlights the best chick flicks in the movie world as well as bringing you news on upcoming chick flick releases as well as letting you all know about which chick lit books are being made into chick flick movies!

This week I have chosen a film that I saw this weekend, and was surprised by. I’ve picked The Time Traveller’s Wife which was released in 2009, and is based on the book by Audrey Niffenegger. I read this book a few years ago and loved it, so I was a bit worried when they said they were going to be taking it and making it into a movie. I tend to dislike book to movie adaptations as I feel they never capture the essence of the book well enough (even the Harry Potter films aren’t quite right in my opinion!) so I was curious to see if this would work.

It does - but it’s not like the book. The book was very deep, the relationship between Clare and Henry was complex and on many levels, yet it didn’t feel this way in the movie at all. However, if you haven’t read the book then I think you’ll love this one as a love story because it delivers on this. I defy you not to cry when you watch this film, I certainly shed a tear in parts, and it’s certainly an emotional movie. It doesn’t have that special something the book has that made it stand out, but its still a good watch for an evening in with the one you love!

Clare (Rachel McAdams) has been in love with Henry (Eric Bana) her entire life. She believes they are destined to be together, even though she never knows when they will be separated.

Henry is a time traveler - cursed with a rare genetic anomaly that causes him to live his life on a shifting timeline, skipping back and forth through his lifespan with no control. Despite the fact that Henry’s travels force them apart with no warning, Clare desperately tries to build a life with her one true love.

Totally agree, I know if I hadn’t read the book I would have loved the film. As it was I thought it was quite good. I cried too.

I haven’t read the book, but I loved this movie! The acting was fantastic, and the love story was very unique. It also had a beautiful atmospheric feel to it. One of my favourites :)

I haven’t gotten the book out of my stack on my shelf yet and was planning on watching the movie this weekend. So, this should be great! I can’t wait!

I loved the book once I finally got round to reading it but I have been a bit wary about watching the film in case it’s not as good!

I sobbed like a baby when I watched this film. I had read the book years ago so I couldn’t remember all the fine details which is probably better for watching the film because you always tend to pick holes in book to film adaptations.
