Book Review: Letters To A Love Rat by Niamh Greene

Posted By Leah on January 27th, 2010

Molly, Eve and Julie all have one thing in common: a man named Charlie. Molly has just married Charlie and is shocked and stunned when, after just coming back from their honeymoon, Charlie ups and leaves by leaving a note saying that she needs to put the recycling out, but also, that he’s leaving her.

Eve has never gotten over Charlie and believed he was the love of her life until the day she caught him in bed with someone else. Her therapist now has her writing letters to Charlie. Letters she won’t send but will hopefully help her to get over Charlie. Julie has been having an affair with Charlie and even blogs about it to the entire internet. She knows she should stop since he’s just gotten married but she just can’t resist - can she? Just what is it that makes all of these women go gaga for Charlie?

Book Synopsis: After The Party by Lisa Jewell

Posted By Chloe on January 27th, 2010

A month or so after the release of the cover for Lisa Jewell’s next book After the Party, the synopsis has been released! It’s due out on 15th April 2010, and is the sequel to Lisa’s debut novel Ralph’s Party. So here’s the synopsis for those who have been waiting for this! Beware, there are spoilers for those who haven’t read Ralph’s Party…

“It’s eleven years since Jem Catterick and Ralph McLeary first got together. They thought it would be for ever, that they’d found their happy ending. As everyone agreed, they were the perfect couple. Then two became four, a flat became a house. Romantic nights out became sleepless nights in. And they soon found that life wasn’t quite so simple any more. But through it all Jem and Ralph still loved each other, of course they did. Now the unimaginable has happened. Two people who were so right together are starting to drift apart. And in the chaos of family life, Ralph feels more and more as if he’s standing on the sidelines, and Jem that she’s losing herself. Something has to change. As they try to find a way back to each other, back to what they once had, they both become momentarily distracted - but maybe it’s not too late to recapture happily ever after …A warm and involving novel that will restore your faith in life, love and the power of starting over, “After the Party” is Lisa Jewell at her unforgettable best.”

Book Cover: The Beach Hut by Veronica Henry

Posted By Leah on January 27th, 2010

Veronica Henry’s next offering Starstruck is due out in September but if you can’t wait that long, Veronica will have out a short story collection called The Beach Hut on 22nd July 2010. I think it sounds fantastic and I adore the simplistic cover. Veronica Henry is not the first author to offer up a short story collection: Irish author Sheila O’Flanagan has published two fab short story offerings Destinations & Connection. Here is the synopsis for The Beach Hut:

‘FOR SALE: a rare opportunity to purchase a beach hut on the spectacular Everdene Beach, Dorset. “The Shack” has been in the family for fifty years, and was the first to be built on this renowned stretch of golden sand…’ Jane Milton doesn’t want to sell her beloved beach hut, which has been the heart of so many family holidays and holds so many happy memories. But when her husband dies, leaving her with an overwhelming string of debts, she has no choice but to sell. THE BEACH HUT follows the stories of the people who own the beach huts, families who come to Everdene each year, people who fall in - or out of - love, remembering their pasts, or trying to forget them… Veronica Henry has brilliantly drawn together the comings and goings of life at the beach huts over one long, hot, lazy summer…

Grace’s childhood home, Chadlicote Manor, is being sold to settle family debts. Will losing her home break her heart or is it the chance for a new life? Karen’s husband has the Manor in his sights as a chance to start over in rural paradise. But Karen prefers city living and, when a new flame turns up the heat, starting again might just mean the end of the road.

Gemma is longing for a baby and, unlike her own loft apartment, Karen’s house is an ideal family home. But the dream house can only have its dream baby if Gemma can convince her flakey sister to help out. Up-and-coming rockstar Nick has designs on Gemma’s flat. He’s also taken a shine to classy estate agent, Lucinda, but she’s not all she seems - and neither is he, since he’s hiding a girlfriend he’s looking to ditch when the sale goes through. Posted By Leah on January 26th, 2010

Jaishree Misra’s debut novel was titled Secrets & Lies and now her second book will follow on with the whole “Secrets” part of the title and will be called Secrets & Sins. It’s due out on 8th June 2010 and I really quite like the cover. For those who prefer to know what the book is about, here is the synopsis, too:

Be careful what you wish for! Seven years ago, Riva Singh and Aman Khan had a passionate love affair. Despite their attraction, Riva rejected Aman for reliable Ben, the man who became her husband. Now, Riva is a bestselling London novelist, whilst Aman is a Bollywood superstar. Both have watched each other from afar but have stayed apart since their painful split. But Fate appears to have other plans for them as they are thrown together at the Cannes film festival. Aman is torn between his desire for Riva and his young family - not to mention the havoc an affair would have on his golden boy public image. Beset by guilt, Reva knows that their love could destroy everything that they hold dear. With so much at stake, will these star-crossed lovers follow their hearts - or their heads?

Book News: Confetti Confidential by Holly McQueen

Posted By Chloe on January 25th, 2010

Despite Leah and I not really raving about Holly McQueen’s first 2 books (The Glamourous Double Life of Isabel Bookbinder and The Fashionably Fashionable Life of Isabel Bookbinder), she’s back with her third book starring Isabel Bookbinder. It’s due out on 10th June 2010 and is called Confetti Confidential. We’ll probably give it a go, so here’s the synopsis:

“Isabel Bookbinder dreams of pearly white weddings, happy brides, handsome grooms. And champagne towers that don’t topple over. She dreams of the perfect wedding. But not for herself…for her clients. It’s all about bride management as far as Isabel’s concerned. Even when she misplaces a couple of brides and loses her job working for wedding guru Pippa Everitt, Isabel isn’t disheartened. She throws herself straight into launching Isabel Bookbinder, Individual Weddings, and with a pop starlet and a millionaire as her first clients, business is looking rosy. Unfortunately for Isabel, nothing ever goes quite according to plan…”
