In Our Mailbox: 11th October (#10)
Posted on Sunday, October 11th, 2009 by LeahIn My Mailbox was created by The Story Siren and let’s us show off the books we’ve acquired this week (in the post, from the library, bought). We’ll post the titles of our books and, in brackets, where they’re from and we’ll post the picture below!
Leah’s Books: The Difference A Day Makes by Carole Matthews (Headline Review), Saving Grace by Ciara Geraghty (Bought), How to Break Your Own Heart by Maggie Alderson (Penguin), The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern (bought), Fairytale of New York by Miranda Dickinson (Avon, manuscript at the bottom).

Chloe’s Books: City Dog by Alison Pace (Alison herself), Heaven Can Wait by Cally Taylor (Orion) and The Jewel Box by Anna Davis (Black Swan).

The lovely Fern Britton is the latest celebrity to turn her hand to writing fiction! Her autobiography “My Story” has been a huge success, and HarperCollins have signed Fern for a 2 book deal, with the first book due out in 2011. There’s no title yet but here’s the synopsis:
Tamara Goodwin has always had anything and everything she’s ever wanted in life. At 16, you could say she’s rather spoilt. Not only is she a spoilt brat but she’s also incredibly ungrateful and doesn’t seem to respect her parents.
I don’t know if any of you have noticed but one of the most popular female names in women’s fiction seems to be LUCY. It is ridiculous the amount of books I’ve seen with Lucy as one of the main characters. I begin to think: Can’t they come up with another name? There are millions of names out there!
Lucy Brown has got it all - a great fiancé, her perfect wedding is all planned and her life is just how she wants it. She’s all set to marry Dan, but then the unthinkable happens - Lucy dies. She wakes up in limbo and is offered a choice - she can go up to heaven for eternity, or return to earth as ghost, and therefore be around Dan once more.
This week’s author of the week is the fab Maggie Alderson. I’m a huge fan of hers and have read two of her novels:

When Julia Fearon, her boyfriend Charlie and their son Haydn, go to Malaga to meet Charlie’s family, Julia is thrilled at the prospect. Her optimism is short-lived when it turns out Charlie’s family are incredibly religious and they’re pressurising Julia about her upcoming wedding to Charlie.Trouble is, Julia has a secret that could ruin her future.
