Book Cover: Spotlight by Ilana Fox

Posted on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 by Leah

Ilana Fox, author of The Making of Mia, has a new book coming out on 29th April 2010 in Hardcover. The title will be Spotlight and it sounds fantastic. I haven’t read Ilana’s debut so will be on the lookout for both books. Here’s a synopsis:

A fallen star. A runaway bride. They’re about to be pitted against each other by a very powerful man. Madison Miller has everything - beautiful, talented and just a little bit naive; she’s the small-town girl who swept to victory on America’s hottest talent show to become the nation’s sweetheart. She’s also head-over-heels in love with the man who’s masterminded her career - the head-spinningly powerful, lethally attractive Beau Silverman.

But there’s trouble in paradise… Jess has bolted from her approaching wedding and a dead-end job in London to chase dreams of being a fashion designer in New York. But she’s finding life in the Big Apple tough, until she meets a man who makes her an offer she can’t refuse. It means a taste of a life she’s never had - glamorous parties, paparazzi, haute couture - but at what price?

Sweeping from the hotspots of LA to the coolest bars of New York, SPOTLIGHT cuts a gloriously fun swathe through the world of celebrity and glamour, with a page-turning story at its heart.

Book News: The Family Man by Elinor Lipman

Posted on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 by Chloe

I know the hardback edition of this book came out in June but somehow I managed to miss it so I thought I’d let you all know about the paperback release of this book instead! The Family Man by Elinor Lipman is released in paperback on 4th February 2010 and sounds fab. I’ve read of one of Elinor Lipman’s hilarious books before and loved it, so I’ll be looking out for this. Here’s the synopsis:

“Henry Archer is a lawyer: successful, gay, lonely. Thalia, his estranged step-daughter, is about to embark on a risky plan to further her Hollywood career. Henry needs love; Thalia needs family. But is moving Thalia and her complicated love-life into the basement of his Manhattan townhouse a recipe for disaster? Or might chaos be the making of them all?”

Book Cover: My Single Friend by Jane Costello

Posted on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 by Chloe

My Single Friend by Jane CostelloThe cover for Jane Costello’s new book My Single Friend has finally been approved by the publishers so here it is! It’s fab and in keeping with the style of Jane’s first 2 book, Bridesmaids and The Nearly-Weds. My Single Friend is due out on April 1st 2010 so there’s a bit of wait but it’s one to look forward to. Here’s the synopis again:

“At 28, Lucy is doing well for herself. She’s got a great job in PR, her boss loves her, and her best girlfriends Dominique and Erin think she’s great. More important than anyone’s opinion is that of her flatmate, and oldest friend in the world, Henry. For twenty years they’ve been inseparable: beauty and the geek. Henry thinks the world of Lucy.

So why does she feel the need to lie outrageously on dates? From rock-climbing to Chekov: when it comes to prospective boyfriends, Lucy is compelled to embellish her C.V. with unlikely porkies that always backfire – with hilarious results. Henry can’t understand it. Lucy is so loveable: why can’t she just be herself? But when Lucy turns the spotlight on Henry, he wishes he’d never brought it up.

With a penchant for jumpers and NHS-style specs, Lucy decides that Henry is in need of a makeover – big time. Enlisting the help of Dom and Erin, it’s not long before the girls have Henry out of the flat, and into the Topman changing rooms. A new haircut, contact lenses, a flirting master-class from Dom …poor Henry doesn’t know what’s hit him. But nothing can prepare them for the surprise results! Before long, Lucy realises that their lives will never be the same again.”

Book News: Daughters of Fortune by Tara Hyland

Posted on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 by Chloe

tara hyland daughters of fortuneBonkbusters seem to be the in-thing at the moment, and Tara Hyland’s debut novel ‘Daughters of Fortune’ seems to be another of them! The lovely striking blue cover looks fantastic, and it sounds like something fans of the Bagshawe sisters and Lulu Taylor would enjoy. It’s due out on March 18th 2010 and here’s the synopsis:

“William Melville’s daughters are heiresses to the world’s most exclusive fashion dynasty. Beautiful and rich, they are envied by all. But behind the glittering facade of their lives, each girl hides a dark secret that threatens to tear their family apart.

Smart, ambitious Elizabeth knows how to manipulate every man she meets, except the one who counts: her father.

Gentle, naive Caitlin, the illegitimate child, struggling to fit into a world of privilege while staying true to herself.

Stunning, spoilt Amber, the party girl with a weakness for bad boys; more fragile than anyone realises.

As each of them seeks to carve out her own destiny, Elizabeth, Caitlin and Amber face difficult choices, which will take them in wildly different directions. But as old wounds resurface and threaten to destroy the foundations of the Melville empire, their paths will cross again. Because the simple truth is that, no matter how far you go, you cannot escape the claims of family.”

Book News: Sweet Temptation by Lucy Diamond

Posted on Monday, October 26th, 2009 by Chloe

I really enjoyed Lucy Diamond’s latest novel Hens Reunited, so I was pleased to see she already has her next book on Amazon for pe-order. Sweet Temptation is due out on 7th May 2010 and sound great. Here’s the synopsis:

“Maddie’s getting it from all sides. Her bitchy new boss at the radio station humiliates her live on air about her figure, her glamour-puss mum keeps dropping not-so-subtle hints that Maddie should lose weight and her kids are embarrassed to be seen with her after the disastrous Mums’ race at their school sports day. Something’s got to change…

Maddie joins the local weight-watching group expecting more humiliation but instead finds two unlikely allies – bitter divorcee Lauren who, despite running a dating agency, has signed off romance for ever and shy Jess, the beautician, who’s desperate to fit into a size 10 wedding dress for her Big Day.”

Winter Warmers! With the cold autumnal evenings drawing in, there’s nothing nicer for me than cosying up with a good book in the warm on a dark evening! There are some ‘golden oldies’ that I like to go back to as old favourites for my Winter Warmers but there are some new books coming out soon that I think will also be great books to enjoy for the cold months. Here’s our top 10 choices for Winter Warmers…why don’t you tell us yours?

The Secret Shopper Unwrapped - Kate HarrisonKate Harrison’s The Secret Shopper Unwrapped is a fabulous Christmas read set in the world of retail and secret shopping. Join Emily, Grazia and Sandie on a festive adventure and a few personal twists and turns along the way too. This book has it all - fun, laughs, love and a few tears too, and I definitely recommend it as a great Winter Warmer!

    callytaylorheavencanwait
Heaven Can Wait is the debut novel from author Cally Taylor, and a magnificent debut it is too. It takes a look at one woman’s journey to becoming a ghost so she can stay with her fiancé Dan forever, but things aren’t always straight forward. The ghost story elements sets this book apart from other chick lit on the shelves and is a fantastic debut that is sure to be a massive hit with anyone who reads it, I can’t recommend it enough! A delightful and charming read.
