Author of the Week: Belinda Jones

Posted on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 by Leah

belindajonesThis weeks Author of the Week is Belinda Jones. Belinda is the author of 7 novels: Divas Las Vegas, I Love Capri, The California Club, The Paradise Room, Cafe Tropicana, The Love Academy and Out of the Blue. She is also the author of the non-fiction novel On The Road To Mr Right.

Belinda’s first job in journalism was on the Postman Pat comic. She went on to spend four years at “more!” magazine which included co-presenting the “Mr more! 94″ male model contest. After turning freelance she wrote for magazines including Elle, FHM, Cosmopolitan and For Women. In 1997 she moved to Los Angeles and in 2001 her first novel Divas Las Vegas was published to great success. She now lives in Las Vegas, but spends much of her time travelling to research her fabulous books (and to find men which you can read about in On The Road To Mr Right). (From fantasticfiction.co.uk)belindajonesoutoftheblue

My favourite Belinda Jones novel is Out of the Blue. My least favourite was The Love Academy and I didn’t even finish it, however I loved the cover for it. I haven’t read The Paradise Room or I Love Capri yet but I’ll be looking out for it. You can read my review for Out of the Blue here.

According to Belinda’s website she is currently working on/researching her eigth novel, apparently called Dancing Girls and is taking Cuban salsa lessons. Amazon.co.uk doesn’t have any information up yet but whenever it’s released I’ll be reading it.

Book News: Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella

Posted on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 by Leah

I check amazon.co.uk every few days to see if there’s any news on Sophie Kinsella’s next novel, Twenties Girl. Today we have a breakthrough: A SYNOPSIS. Since there still isn’t a cover I’m using this picture of Sophie I got from fantasticfiction.co.uk. The synopsis reads:

Lara has always had an over - active imagination. Now she wonders if she is losing her mind. Normal twenty-something girls just don’t get visited by ghosts! But inexplicably, the spirit of Lara’s great aunt Sadie - in the form of a bold, demanding Charleston-dancing girl - has appeared to make one last request: Lara must track down a missing necklace Sadie simply can’t rest without. Lara’s got enough problems of her own. Her startup company is floundering, her best friend and business partner has run off to Goa, and she’s just been dumped by the love of her life. But as Lara spends time with Sadie , life becomes more glamorous, she dresses in beautiful vintage frocks and their treasure hunt turns into something intriguing and romantic. Could Sadie’s ghost be the answer to Lara’s problems and can two girls from different times end up learning something special from each other?

It sounds great and I love Sophie’s novels so can’t wait until this is released on September 10th.

Book News: Love Under Cover by Jessica Brody

Posted on Tuesday, April 7th, 2009 by Leah

jessicabrodyloveundercoverThanks to my snooping around on authors sites I’ve come across Jessica Brody’s website and found the beautiful cover for her new novel, and the sequel to The Fidelity Files, Love Under Cover. It comes out in America in November however Amazon.co.uk has it coming out in the UK in October, October 1st to be precise. Amazon.co.uk also has it titled differently as The Good Girls Guide to Bad Men so the cover on the right could just be the American cover. Until Amazon.co.uk put up a British cover then this is the one I’ll use. If another - different - cover crops up, I’ll post it as soon as I see it. I like this cover, simple and efficient. The synopsis from Jessica Brody’s website reads:

Jennifer Hunter never saw herself as the relationship type. After all, she’d spent the last two years of her life as an undercover fidelity inspector, hired to test men’s faithfulness—not exactly the kind of job that lends itself to intimacy. But when Jamie Richards walked into her life, everything changed, and Jennifer vowed to trade in her undercover lifestyle for something more normal.

That’s why she formed the Hawthorne Agency: Five full-time fidelity inspectors, hired to carry out Jennifer’s mission while she manages the process from a safe (relationship-saving) distance. But a surprise proposal from Jamie leaves her wondering if the “normal” life is really meant for her. Can a former fidelity inspector who’s seen nothing but failed marriages ever come to terms with tying the knot herself? And when she receives a frantic phone call from one of her employees in trouble, she’s faced with a choice: fulfill her obligation to the client who needs her or honor her promise to the man she loves.

I enjoyed The Fidelity Files so will definitely look out for her new one once it’s released.

Book News: Cecelia Ahern & Louise Candlish plus snippets

Posted on Tuesday, April 7th, 2009 by Leah

Remember a few weeks back I mentioned a new Cecelia Ahern novel that comes out on October 1st? Well Amazon have added the title: The Girl of Tomorrow. There is still no cover or synopsis but it’s always nice to have any kind of information. I like the sound of the title and can’t help but wonder what it will be about.

louisebeforewesaygoodbyeI went to the book swop today and picked up three books. The Secret Life of Evie Hamilton by Catherine Alliott, Love The One You’re With by Emily Giffin and He Loves Me Not… He Loves Me by Claudia Carroll. I have loads - loads- of books in my to-read pile so I’ll get round to those new ones when I get around to them.

Louise Candlish, author of Prickly Heat, I’ll Be There For You (previously Sisters Avenue), The Double Life of Anna Day, Since I Don’t Have You and The Second Husband has a new novel out on August 6th called Before We Say Goodbye. The synopsis reads: ‘Why did she direct me to the only man in the world who can make me feel like this?’ The day Maggie Lane dies, she sends her daughter Olivia a letter containing dangerous information: the address of Olivia’s first love, Richie Briscoe. Olivia has not seen Richie for over twenty years, not since his desertion of her as a teenager almost destroyed her for good. She cannot understand why her mother’s last act should be to stir up old drama like him. Convinced that the note represents an admission of guilt, Olivia sets off for the idyllic seaside village where Richie now lives with his young daughter Wren. Soon she has fallen for him all over again ? and found in little Wren the daughter she never had. But there is a problem. For Olivia already has a husband and two sons. And where does this second chance at happiness put them? I like the sound of it and really enjoyed Since I Don’t Have You and have The Second Husband in my to-read pile.

Robyn Sisman has a new novel out in July currently Untitled; Jessica Brody, author of The Fidelity Files, has the sequel coming out in October called The Good Girls Guide To Bad Men; Anita Notaro has a new novel out in October 2010 called No Ordinary Love; Bridie Clark has a new novel out in December called The Overnight Socialite.

Recently Released: Just The Three of Us by Clare Dowling

Posted on Monday, April 6th, 2009 by Leah

claredowlingthethreeofusA book I missed in my April Releases post was Clare Dowling’s new novel Just The Three of Us. It came out on April 2nd in Hardcover and will be out in Paperback in November. The blurb from Amazon reads:

Debs is having an affair with a married man. Not that she meant to or anything. But while she was miserably hanging around waiting for Mr Right – if only she could lose that stubborn half stone – Bob just kind of happened. Lovely, kind, sexy Bob. OK, he’s also a rampant cheat, but when you’ve been starved of affection for as long as Debs has, it’s hard to say no. Geri is married to Bob. She also thinks he’s lovely, kind and sexy, even if the last bit has worn a bit thin after seventeen years of marriage. And two kids. And the horrible sound he makes brushing his teeth in the mornings. But that’s the reality of marriage for you, or is it? Geri suspects something’s wrong but surely Bob would never do anything to hurt her… So for now it’s just the three of them – but how long can that last?

Clare Dowling is the author of 6 other novels: Fast Forward, Expecting Emily, Amazing Grace, My Fabulous Divorce, No Strings Attached and Going It Alone (in my to-read pile). Clare was born in Kilkenny in 1968. She trained as an actress and has worked in theatre, film and radio. She has had drama and children’s fiction published and she writes scripts for Ireland’s top soap, FAIR CITY. She lives in Dublin and is married with one son and one daughter.
